A few months passed and the first semester is already coming to an end. I have got to say my first semester at Baruch College has been a new experience. It took some time to get used to the college life style but I have no doubt I have made a successful transition from high school.

I believe Baruch College has lived up to my expectations. There is a tremendous amount of competition at Baruch and it has proven to be a great challenge to keep up. Aside from the many classes Baruch College has to offer, there is a wide range of extracurricular activities to form better students. There are also a number of different departments and facilities that have been designed to help students on their studies and I greatly appreciate it.

Although at first I had seemed to be overwhelmed with work, I learned to manage my time and in that process discovered a little more about myself. I discovered I am more attentive in classes during the afternoon. I learned the best time to do doing homework is in the morning. I feel I have changed to adapt to the college atmosphere. I have done more work in my first semester at Baruch College than I have done in my whole senior year in high school. What I mean is I discovered a harder working side of me and I intend to exercise that side to be the best I can be.

My first semester of Baruch College has been great. I feel I have done well in my classes and I should receive a fairly good grade. I have met a handful of new people and I discovered a little more about myself. However, my first semester would have been even better if I had joined a club or team. That way I could begin building my resume and at the same time meet new people and learn new things.  Unfortunately my shy personality has got the best of me but I do look forward to joining some sort of extracurricular activity.

In the end my Baruch experience has been fascinating. I am satisfied with what Baruch College has to offer and happy with the progress in my classes. In addition I learned more about myself and I discovered a side of me that is eager to learn. Overall I believe, my first semester has truly been a stepping stone to building a greater future for myself.

The Business Dining Etiquette was probably the most interesting event I have been to since the beginning of the semester. I presumed at first the event was just going to be informative and dull, like every other workshop in the multipurpose room. But once I stepped in, I saw round tables set up and food on the side, I realized Baruch has finally learned to offer students the environment we need to learn=D. I got some food and sat down at a table with Han, Sean, Johnathon, Weiyao, and a random kid. I listened closely to the speaker  from Kentucky while I ate. She taught us the etiquette of business dining- the rules of how we should act and eat in business occasions. Some of the common rules include napkin on laps, no nose blowing, no sneezing, shut phone off, etc. If necessary, take everything outside. More importantly, don’t take a drink and plate at the same time in a buffet, because there are chances of running into  ex girlfriends and impulse for hugs. Another essential principles are never order the most expensive item on the menu, never consume large amount of food, focus on the conversation, because it’s all about the conversation, never about the food.

The Dining Etiquette Luncheon was informative and chill, I learned the effective business meal tactics, some dining do’s and don’ts, etc. I am glad I went.

PS. I ran into two Johnathon during the event and I talked to them both, later i realized it was his  twin.

As a freshman, I don’t have any experience at Baruch. Just feeling the courses were a littele hard for me. I drop some classes because getting low grade in midterm. But I would take them again for high grade. I still believe that the more you pay on something, the more you will get from it! So we should be to spend more time in study that is very important. At school teachers teach us not only knowledge. But also how to be good. It’s making us understand how to plan correctly our ways in the future. During my first year of college, it will be an unforgettable start.  Otherwise, As for me, I get some change, like to participate in school activities and have benefited a lot. If  I could do it all again, I think everything will be better. Thanks Michelli Li for taking care of us in this semester.

HI sorry for not posting anything lately. I have really enjoyed my time here with the people in the class. Thank you Michelli Li for taking care of us.  This semester was going very well except for the time I drop a class. I didn’t expect to drop any class in the first semester. I believe I have change a little bit. I am not as nervous as I was before when I was first been here.

A special day on November 11th, 2010. I made a visit to the Rubin Museum of Art, accompanied by Sean, Emillio, Oleksandr, and Marsida.  The Rubin Museum of Art enlightened me with Buddhist cultures and exposed to the various traditional Hindu artwork. As a Christian, I tried to view another religious culture in an unbiased way, and I was educated by their differences.

The most memorable arts to me are the common symbols and important figures of the art of Himalayas. The figures of Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and the couple deities all have  hand gestures that represent meanings. For instance, the hands form the shape of a wheel symbolize a reference to teaching the Buddha’s doctrine. With wrist pulling back and palm facing outward, means do not fear. What I suspect is challenging for me to do is their dancing, since the dancing needs me to stand and balance with one foot, and need to bring the ankle of the other foot near the crouch area and move the upper body in rhythm!!!

Overall, the trip to the Rubin Museum of Art was not very exciting. But it gave me a similar feeling as my Political science class in terms of its informativeness, its occasional interests that brings me, and to a lesser degree, its dullness. =D

ty for reading, and sry for posting so late.

i went to the rubin musuem and i saw alot of interesting artifacts like buddha, and stuff from other various religions. i mostly saw alot of stuff from japanese and from china in the first floor. it made me think that even though japan and china may seem similar, it is actually very different from each other, noted by the religion from each. it made me think that we are all different even though we are in the same world, and that no matter how close we are to each other, we have the slightest differences that makes us and our religion unique from each other.

I don’t know if the others had this feeling but when i came to know about the compulsory museum visit, i was like ” WHAT? Museum? Again? Are you kidding me?”. From  all different museums I had visted, none of them actually left me a good impression because i would always get lost in the museum or end up leaving my camera in the restroom. Is it my problem or maybe all the accidents happened were destined? However, since it is a compulsory trip, I had no other choices but went to the Rubin Museum reluctantly. So,  Wei Fang as the group leader , leaded Ru Fang , Yong Chen, Tony , Will and me to walk the longest 20 minutes in my life. The location of the museum was confusing and we ended up entering the museum from the cafe entrance and thought that we had  mistakenly entered into a restaurant before the guard guided us to the  main entrance.

To my surprise, Rubin Museum is  absolutely different from the museum I have visited before. In fact, it is the only western museum which depicts workpieces and diorama of Asian cultures. The ambiance of the museum is somber with all the Buddhas, yet very artistic and precious with the yellow flight focusing on their golden surface. As a son of my Buddhist parents, I am not surprised by those sophisticated statues, since I have seen a lot of them. However, when I stumbled onto an area showing the process to craft those irreplaceable precious Buddha, I was amazed deeply by the great craftsmanship and patient of a craftsman.Without them, I think wonderful sculptures that I have met would not exist, and hence, cultures would be hardly preserved. After that, I discovered a large map which indicates the sources of Buddhism. I usually don’t really care about the content on the board but the big map also showed where Malaysia is. Since most of my friends, did not know about where my country is, i took the chance to show them and tell them some stories of my country. Through my speech, i realized that my own identity was actually hidden in my history. I identified myself while showing where Malaysia is and how i lived my life over there to my friends. Had a great time telling them my stories and my life  but not from learning the stories of the artworks.

By the way, i forgot where i put or i might have lost my memory card of my camera again as well as the pictures in itFortunately, I have one picture of one artwork of the museum  in my phone. But it turns out that i can’t upload the picture since the storage memory is full. I will try my best to find my memory cards and share the pictures in it.

My friends and I went to Rubin Museum last week. We really enjoyed it. There are many amazing arts in the museum. The Buddha is the most interesting art in it. I think some of them represent Chinese cultures. We took many wonderful pictures, but I can’t post them. WHY…WHY…WHY???????  Oh…………..Nooooooooo!

I went to the museum yesterday, it was not as amazing as I thought,  on the contrary I do not like it at all. I do not like this kind of art. I only stayed there for about couple of minutes and then left, took some pictures. Why can not I upload the picture?

Hi, everyone. I went to the Rubin Museum of Art with some friends last week. It is so quiet and great place. I ‘m very interesting to visit the museum. I enjoy many valuable exhibitions, and understand many about religious cultures, history. It’s a quite meaningful experience. From the museum, I took some photos about buddha, because my family practice Buddhism.  My picture show a Buddhas that is art of our east buddhism is specific show. They can embody the characteristic, significance of the ethics of Chinese Buddhism.
