About Christian Torre

I'm a currently an upper junior at Baruch pursuing a double major in Political Science and Philosophy. Aside from a full class schedule I'm the President and varsity debaters of the Debate Team at Baruch and teach debate to middle schoolers around the Tri-State area. When I have free time I play basketball, head to the gym or watch Netflix (quickly becoming a favorite past-time for our generation). During the summer and spring seasons I venture in the outdoors, usually going hiking, river-rafting or swimming. Other hobbies include expanding my taste and knowledge of movies and reading books on political theory and philosophy. I also greatly enjoy venturing around the city and finding new restaurants to eat and places to explore.

oh yea

I’m supposed to make a post regarding my reaction to the monologues. I have to say I was pretty clutch with them since mine managed to get chosen to be read alongside Martin’s. That was pretty cool. :]

My First Semester At Baruch and My Last Blog PostM

It’s 9:44 a.m in the morning and I just woke up and found out from a friend that I don’t have to go to English class this week, so I’m in kind of a good mood. This is my last post, so here it goes. This is for you Clemente and for you guys at LC 26. :]

My first semester at Baruch has been truly amazing. Once my friend said she likes Baruch because it gives us the chance to make new friends while also allowing us to stay in touch with many of the people we became friends with in high school. This is true for me as well, I’ve met many new people and new friends. Some of you are reading this blog right now. To be honest, I consider all the people in LC 26 my friends. I think we were extremely lucky to have such a wide variety of personalities that always kept class interesting, like Jack’s questioning the legal standpoint of any far fetched situation he found himself in or David’s spot on impersonation of that one substitute we had. Of course, you can’t forget Clemente whose been extremely helpful in Freshmen Seminar. Especially since if he didn’t have us go to those career and academic workshops a significant amount of us would be still have that part blank on that orange sheet of paper we got some undetermined amount of time ago. I forget because I just found it underneath a pile of menus and old English papers.

College has also presented a fair amount of adventures for me. The least of which was supposed to be a short 30 minute walk to my dorm that turned into a 2 and a half hour trek through lower Manhattan. I’m pretty sure I got turned around near NYU or something, I probably should have asked for directions but unfortunately men don’t ask for directions. But perhaps the biggest adventure was probably going through Pre-Cal with you guys at 10:45 a.m. Suffice to say, some of us just didn’t make it :/

Now the real challenge is the next semester and scheduling new classes. Trust me on this, I’m the guy who still has one stop on his record. -_- Despite wherever our new schedules take us, I hope we all stay in touch. A simple head nod will do as we pass in the hallways or even a nice “Hey Christian!” to which I will wholeheartedly respond “Hey!…..guy/girl :D” I don’t know if you can actually insert smileys in real life conversation but I sure will try.

I guess this is time to wrap this up. But let’s reminisce over our favorite LC26 moments. Remember that one time (insert story here) and that other time when (insert story here)! Yo, great times, great times. Oh yea there was that one time we went to the movie and dinner, that was pretty chill as well. Alright time to get off because I still have to go to the Rubin Museum today before Freshmen Seminar (I won’t lie to you Clemente I’m cutting it really close here lol). Hope you enjoyed my last blog post here at Live@Baruch. For those who read all the way to the end, congratulations! You should get a cookie. Find me in class or the hallway and ask me for a cookie, but just to make sure you really read all the way through I will ask you what I talked about in the sixth paragraph. Hint: It’s a trick question. Alright xoxox, Gossip Girl 😮

P.S. You should all do yourself a favor and go to Fast and Fresh near the 6 train station. Best chocolate milkshakes ever. Don’t get strawberry, it taste like ass.

Who am I? It’s a question that we always ask ourselves, not just when doing a mandatory blog post. How we see ourselves is often boiled down to our experiences and choices. A big part of it is also how we interact with others. If Sociology has taught me anything, it’s that humans are defined by their interpersonal relationships; that and high schools in Kansas are pretty bad. Well for the sake of you Clemente, here I go.

My name is Christian Torre, I was born and raised in Queens. I still believe Queens is the best borough, followed by Brooklyn, the Bronx and …Staten Island (ew). I’m an openly social person, though I definitely wasn’t always that way. College for me is radically different from what I’m use to. Through out elementary, middle and high school, the student body had been relatively small. For me, it made making close friends easier since you saw a lot of the same people day in and day out. Coming to Baruch, I see that I’m one in a student body that is in the thousands. It’s really easy to get lost in the shuffle if you don’t put yourself out there and meet people. So far it’s been a good experience, lucky for me the people in my LC are really cool (shout out to LC26!)

So don’t hesitate to talk to me, I can strike up a conversation out of nowhere, even if it’s about the most random of topics. Don’t freak out if I act a little strange, just means I’m comfortable with you :]. If you get to know me, I can be one of the funniest guys you’ve ever met. I’m really into movies, television (Pretty Little Liars, Burn Notice, Greek) and sports. I hope to learn a lot in college as I get to know you guys, but I’m pretty sure we’ve all learned a lot already like..

Math: TI-89 calculators are essential…and everyone is as clueless about WebWorks as everyone else.
Sociology: 2nd graders in Japan and Germany could outsmart us
Public Administration: Sneak and Peak is pretty complicated, and marrying 90 year old women is a sure fire way to get rich

Law: Never get involved with a suicidal lady’s family

Well I hope that’s enough Clemente. I really want to win the cash prize for most blog posts (I’m still assuming that’s what the prize is.)
