Blog Post Number 3 Jonathan Kaplan

A) The classes at baruch have lived up to my expectations, with an exception of a few of my teachers. The social life has definitely not lived up to my expectations. I feel like every student at baruch is on a mission to go to class and get home as soon as possible. Everyone is standing outside the VC looking bored out of their minds doing nothing and I find it is hard to meet new people, or have a social life with other students at baruch.

I think my first semester went well. I wish I was more prepared for some of my classes, since in High School I didnt have to apply myself at all, I wasnt ready for all the work that I had in college. I did manage to meet some people my first semester that I will most likely stay in touch with for the rest of my college time, if not longer.

The only thing I would change about my first semester would be to study more, because I had to drop 2 classes due to low grades.

I havent really changed alot since I started at baruch.

Monologue post 2

Hi I’m Jonathan Kaplan, from Long Island New York, I prefer Jon. I am a determined person, only in subjects in which I have interest. I also describe myself as Outgoing, funny, smart, and honest.

I spend my free time procrastinating, trying to not do anything productive, which I hope college can change.

Some things I enjoy are sleeping, music, movies, cars, hanging out with my friends, and partying. Partying isn’t something that this college does at all, but thank god for NYC.

So far college is a huge change from high school. In high school I was able to do as I please and not attend class if I wanted. Especially my senior year. I still managed to get good grades though, and the absences didn’t affect me. Now in college, I feel that besides the really strict attendance policy in all of my classes, I actually have to do the reading to understand what is going on in class. I am not used to this at all, but I have seen an improvement in my habits since the beginning of the semester already.

I’m afraid of not having good grades in my classes. My parents have had really high standards for me the majority of my life, and I fulfilled them with promised grades in high school, yet college I have already seen one failing grade. I am definitely going to put more time into everything I do now seeing that it counts.

I don’t really know what else to write here so I figure I am done.

first blog post whats good

a. Tell us who you think YOU are!
I think I’m Jon Kaplan (spell my name with an H and there will be problems) son of Ronnie aka Moses, and Natalie. I also think I am a very outgoing person, I enjoy a fine night out on the town with a few of my colleagues. I tend to be sarcastic with certain things, like crazy math teachers… absolute value.

b. Share your top 3 concerns about your freshman year at Baruch and explain why.

1) Keeping my GPA up – although I am a genius, I tend to not pay attention in class, which can result in negative things such as bad grades/low gpa

2) Procrastination – As seen in this post, I wait until the last minute to do my work which is not good. I wish I would do my work on time, but for some reason I convince myself I have better things to do.

3) Getting to school on time – My commute every morning is very rough I have to walk almost .05 Miles to get to Baruch College.

c. So far, what do you think will make your Baruch College experience different from your high school experience?

The major difference between Baruch and my HS is that I actually have to read and do work. I got along in High School with grades in the low and mid 90s without ever reading a book or studying for a test once. I am not lying. I feel like I am just now learning to read.

d. How do you think your first year at college will change you?

Well, besides the college part, living in NYC is going to change me alot. I feel that going to this city instead of a campus environment will cause me to grow up alot quicker, living on my own makes it 150% quicker because I have to take care of my own place. My situation being that I want to become an Entrepreneur in NYC is even better, because I will learn alot about the different areas and the different people of the city.
