The Final Blog.
a) Tell us how your experience at Baruch College has lived up to your expectations? Not lived your expectations? Exceeded your expectations?
I think Baruch exceeded my expectations. I sort of expected college to be very boring. I ended up having a lot more fun than I thought I would. The classes were good and I learned a lot. The teachers weren’t that bad either. The only sucky class was freshmen seminar. Thank god that’s over! lol. Just kidding. I actually liked all my classes and made a bunch of friends here. I got used to seeing everybody everyday and that’s when Baruch finally started feeling comfortable. I actually like the school a lot. I don’t think I could see myself anywhere other than Baruch.
b) How well do you think your semester at Baruch College went?
Well, I feel like I slacked off this first semester since all the work was overwhelming. Not that college is so difficult or anything, I just wasn’t used to having this much work. After all, I had just come from high school where I pretty much didn’t have to do anything. The amount of work was good in the sense that it woke me up to what college life is like. I feel ready to take on every following semester here at Baruch.
c) What would you do differently during your first semester if you could do it all again?
If there was anything I’d do differently this first semester, it would be to work harder in all my classes. I feel like I could have done much better in all my classes if I had been more focused on my school work. I also wouldn’t have fooled around so much with pre-calc. I now know that math isn’t the kind of subject where you can pull off a passing grade without studying. When I retake the class, I’m going to make sure I study as hard as I can in order to get the best grade possible.
d) How have you changed since you started at Baruch College?
I have changed in the sense that I am now accustomed to the freedom I gained by going to college. I am also more responsible. I feel ready to take on the rest of my years here at Baruch. I guess I’m more open after meeting new people and making new friends. When school started I was a bit more reserved and kept to myself and now I know a bunch of people from the block and hang out with the new friends I’ve made everyday. Everything became sort of a routine. Now that a new semester is going to start and I’m going to be taking new classes we’re all probably going to have to go through a bunch of changes again. But of course, change is good. That’s the most important lesson I’ve learned from transitioning from high school to college, being a college student and now being able to make my own schedule. Change is definitely good.

My “moe”nologue
Hello everyone, my name is Mohammed Jaffery and I am 18 years old. I really like basketball. Its my favorite sport. I’m also a big fan of music, I listen to almost anything if it sounds good. I’m a fun loving person and a thrill seeker. I walk on the wild side. I laugh in the face of danger (ha ha ha ha!) I really wanna go skydiving, bungee jumping, anything that’ll give me a rush. My motto is pretty much “Live, laugh, and laugh some more” No matter what I’m doing, I should be enjoying myself and having fun. What I like most about college is that its never boring. I really like coming to school, the classes just get in the way. What I like least about college is the work but thats what I have to do in order to earn my degree and be successful. My family and friends are very important to me. I’m always there for them and they’re always there for me. Roles I play in my life are son, brother, and friend. I take these roles very seriously. I’m always there for anyone who needs me. I’ve come to enjoy college. Its nice that I’ve gotten used to it.

I think I’m…
Whats up everybody. My name is Mohammed Jaffery but everyone I know calls me Moe. I’m 18 years old and I’m from Corona, Queens. I’m supposed to tell you all who I think I am. Well, I think I’m just an average guy trying to get through college and have fun. I’m here to get a degree so I can have a job and get paid a bunch of money someday. The reason I came to Baruch is because I feel that business equals money. So what better school to go to than Baruch, the best business school in NYC. My top 3 concerns at Baruch are getting good grades/getting my work done, getting accustomed to the college life and also having as much fun as possible. I need to get my work done or else I will not pass my classes, obviously. I have to do well in these classes or else I’ll feel like I didn’t try hard enough. I have to learn to manage my time better. It hasn’t been a month yet and I feel like I’m behind. This doesn’t bother me too much because I know that I’ll catch up if I am behind. Its just that whenever I have homework to do, I end up doing something much more fun and then regret not doing my hw. I definitely want to have fun because then I’ll just be bored here at school all the time. I love having fun so enjoying myself at Baruch is very important to me. What makes college different from my high school experience is the freedom and independence. In high school, teachers would try to make sure you passed all your classes and whatnot. In college, the professor couldn’t care less if you pass or fail. The work load is also very different than when I was in high school. In high school, I could get away with not doing any work and passing all my classes. I need to develop better study habits and have a “work first, play later” kind of attitude. My first year of college will change me so that I will have that kind of attitude. At the same time, I don’t want my whole time at Baruch to be full of work with no time to have fun. Meeting new people and making new friends is also a big thing. I’ve met a few people that I get along with so that’s a good start. Soon enough, I’ll be able to call these people my friends. To expand on that, I’m thinking of maybe joining a fraternity because they seem like tons of fun and I’ve always wondered what being part of a fraternity would be like. A frat is a good place to meet future business connections. If things go well, freshman year will be really fun and I’ll have a great time. I’m going to try to enjoy myself as much as possible during these 4 years at Baruch.
