Ye In Bin- 3rd Post

Wow. Time sure does fly fast. I remember my first few days of Baruch College and to be honest, I did not like it because I was not used to commuting all the way from Long Island. Also, this college sure does give massive amount of work. I still remember I had to read 2 chapters for History class and 3 chapters for Anthropology class. Even though I heard college is all about reading, personally, reading 5 chapters were way too much for me.

However, I’m getting used to college now. Waking up at 8 Oclock to catch 9 10 LIRR is daily life now. Also, I got used to sleeping in LIRR so it doesnt feel like forever in LIRR anymore. And walking from Penn to Baruch is piece of cake now. I became a very fast walker ever since I started commuting. In the beginning of the semester, I thought about dorming or moving out but I figured that would cost me and my family way too much money. But looking back, I think I made the right choice to commute.

In addition, school work is becoming easy for me. After I aced few tests, I became confidant about college and my grade. This confidence did not make me lazy but helped me to become harder worker. Now I have two more weeks of school and I really want to do well and received a high grade to start my college year.

Ye In Bin- monologue

Hi, my name is Ye In and I live in Port Washington, which is in Long Island.  I chose to attend Baruch College because I wanted to be a CPA, certified public accountant and Baruch College has a good program for accounting. By attending this school for two month, I realized that high school and college are very different.

First of all, I never really “commuted” in high school. For me, commuting takes a lot of time. At first, I hated commuting a lot but now I am getting used to it. In high school, it only took me 10 minutes to go to “commute” to my school but now, it takes up a lot more, which makes me more deligent and responsible person because I try my hardest not to be late for classes.

Also, I realize there are a lot more reading to do in college. In high school, I did pretty well without reading all my materials given. Actually, most of the times, notes in classes helped me more to get high grades in the test. But in college, I realized reading textbook helps me a lot more than notes that I take from the class. Even today, I was studying for Anthropology test and I barely looked at the note but read a lot more, taking notes and highlighting the important parts from the chapters.

Lastly, I find that college classes move a lot quicker than I thought. For example, I took calculus in high school ( even though I did terrible in AP test) and it did not move as fast as college. I feel like if I didnt take the Calc class in high school, I would have VERY hard time in college because of the fast moving class.

I am still adjusting to my new school and its getting better and better everyday. I try to forget about my habits in high school and adjust more to college. Even though the work and commuting is hard, I will overcome all these obsticles to obtain my goals.

Ye In Bin- 1st blog

I can be identified as many different person. First of all, I am a freshman in Baruch College. Some people also see me as a person who attends church. My parent can see me as a first son in the family and my brother can see me as a big brother. Last of all, my friends can see me as a good and loyal friend. Most importantly, I see me as a person who trying to ace the college classes and trying to live hardest and live a good life. I tried hard in all of my classes but at the same time, I am trying to spend time with family, friends, and in church.

My biggest concern in Baruch College is the fact that I have to maintain 3.2 GPA to keep on receiving the Dean’s Scholarship. I am taking 5 classes and anthropology and history classes are giving me a hard time. Becasue of these two classes, I am worried that i might not be able to keep up the GPA. My 2nd biggest concern is the commuting. I live in Port Washington (in Long Island). I calculated my commuting time and it takes around 3 hours to travel back and forth to Baruch from my house. I hope I can move out soon so I dont have to travel so much. My last concern (was) making friends. This was a big concern when I first entered college but I started to make friends by going to various clubs and talking to students in the classes. So the last one is taken care of.

In my opinion, high school and college both have similarity and difference. The similiarity is that I have to commute to school. Also, classes are not that much different from high school. However, college works are much harder and goes into much more detail. In addition, classes are longer and breaks are longer between the classes. I also think that college have a lot more independence. In high school, teachers take care a lot for students but in college, students have to make time to go see the professor at certain help time to get help. Lastly, I take less classes in college than high school, but I have more work than high school.

I think the first year at Baruch will change me in many ways. I think I will be more independent. Also, I will know how to manage time and schedule. Lastly, I will be more studius and will study harder to achieve high GPA
