My first semester at Baruch college really opened my eyes. College is different from what i had expected it to be. Completely different from my expectations. Or maybe it was because this is a commuter college, I don’t know. I probably learned more from these 13 weeks of college the my entire 4 years of high school. I also found out that trying to get all the classes you need for the second semester is impossible if you’re a freshman. I met a lot of interesting people and made some great memories already. Will probably join a club or join something for next semester since i got huge gaps. College isn’t easy but I learn that it could be if you just study…which i will start doing next year.

And that was my title. Anyway I’ve been a part of Baruch College for around a month and half now. This college is rather underwhelming since everywhere you look something is broken kinda like this sentence. Really I don’t feel like doing this blog but having did the previous one late and being forced to write an article kind of swayed my options.  I don’t really know what to talk about so Im just  gonna start typing my thoughts.

I hate having to commute a hour everyday going to and from school everyday.

Baseball sucks and shouldn’t be consider a sport.

There are 290 calories in a 20 fluid ounce bottle of Mountain Dew.

Fun Fact: More than ten people a year are killed by vending machines…watch out.

Chinese people invented ice cream and pasta, I don’t care if you disagree.

Being part of the 99% is fun, we get to protest whenever we want.

Batman shouldn’t be running around with a young boy while wearing spandex, it leads to questions.

Professors in college should be forced to take a public speech class before being allowed to teach, and students should be the one to grade them.

Argh listing random facts and opinions is annoying. What really am I suppose to say? College is fucking amazing despite my bitching. Alright I’m tired of speaking in front of all you. Next person please!

Late Blog assignment-universal national service

Simon Tsui
Basically this article is arguing for a universal national service. It states several reasons for this call, some of the more important ones being the fact that Americans simply don’t believe in the government anymore. In fact the article clearly states that while American opinion on democracy and government are at an all time low, the amount of community service is at its pinnacle. While the amount of community service being done is a great thing, it is not the answer to the problem. The problem is that people see community service more as an antidote for public service when it’s not. That is why this article argues for a universal national service that should be implemented into American culture. With these programs, the government hopes to raise the amount of civic duty that gets performed and solve several issues.
The universal national service sounds pretty good for those who enjoy volunteering their time for the greater good of society. However there are several problems that I want to address. First off the amount of money needed to implement these programs is massive. While I agree that most of this money could be gained from cuts off federal prisons and military, there are many people in government who would argue against this. Second, I doubt these acts will ever actually get passed since these programs seem mostly liberal and democratic so expecting huge resistance from the Republican Party. Also another problem is that if universal national service does happen then the chances of requiring by law to participate would rise and that isn’t an appealing idea at all.

IM LATE OMG!!!

Hi my name is Simon Tsui for those of you who dont know…uh yeah. This is my first year of college and im semi excited. The amount of papers that are all dued at once is rather annoying. I gotta do a report later so keep an eye out for that. This school isnt that bad, people are friendly and i started to work here so its cool. the hardest part is waking up in the morning and catching the subway commute for two hours everyday sucks. Alright thats enough ranting about school life.

I live Brooklyn,Ny and I like certain sports. Football(both kinds) and MMA is pretty high on my list. I love the Supernatural series on tv. As mention before i really enjoy comedy in all shape and sizes. My favorite channel is obviously comedy central-love Tosh.O and his stand up is amazing if you know whats he talking about.  Gabriel is also good(Fluffy man) and the movies are pretty good on the rainy weekends. I love videogames espically the japanese ones. Favorite game this gen would have to be Demon’s Souls-hard as hell but scary fun.
