First Semester at Baruch (Blog 3)

My first semester at Baruch has so far been interesting. I met a lot of cool people in all my classes and learned a lot about the fast-paced new york lifestyle. I wasn’t sure of what to expect when I first came to Baruch, so in terms of expectations, I’m sure that it definitely met most of them.

Fortunately, I feel that my first semester has gone really well. I have been dedicating a lot of my time to schoolwork and the results have been good. At some points during the semester, there was an incredible amount of work given to do in just a week, but that is expected since this is college and we are here for our own good. However, choosing classes for next semester was a very big hassle and I feel that the scheduling system could definitely have some improvements.

I’m not sure what I would do differently if I could do first semester all over again because I feel that my first year has gone pretty well and there’s not much that I would really want to change. I’m not sure if I myself have changed since coming to Baruch College, but I definitely feel more mature and ready for the future. Baruch has been a great experience so far and I look forward to starting the next semester.

Monologue Two

New York has been pretty awesome so far. Having moved here from Los Angeles, California about two months ago, I have really been enjoying my time here in New York City. I remember when I first visited back in April last year.  After only a couple days here, I knew I had to live in Manhattan at some point in my life;it was just too cool of a place to pass up. So I decided to come to Baruch, and so far I have really liked the school. Everybody seems nice and some of the teachers are alright but some might need some improvement. Although there are definitely some notable differences between living here compared to the west coast. The lifestyle is very quick around here and everybody always seems to be in some kind of rush. Everything is much more relaxed on the west coast and the atmosphere feels a bit more chill. However, I knew what I signed up for when I decided top move to New York so this shouldn’t be a surprise to me. I also have been enjoying Baruch’s game room lately and there are some good ping pong players out there. Baruch even has its own ping pong team; an a and a b team. Wow. Anyways, I’ve made some really good friends here and I hope that the rest of the school year goes as well as it’s been going.

I would consider myself to be caring, humorous, athletic, and adventurous. Sports have always been part of my life and I’ve been playing soccer for as long as I can remember. But although my love of soccer will always be with me, I feel as if it took too much of my time during high school which is why I have decided not to play for the Baruch team and just enjoy the college experience as well as concentrating on my grades. I’m looking forward to getting to know my new classmates as well as keeping in touch with my old friends.

One worry of mine was just getting used to living on the easy coast. Having just moved from Los Angeles; New York has been a completely different experience so far. I was expecting the adjustment to be a little more difficult but surprisingly, the transition to the NY lifestyle has been very smooth. Obviously, maintaining good grades is a very common concern but I am confident that if I make sure to put time in everything I do, I can and will succeed. My last concern was being far away from my family. My family and I are very close and in the beginning, I felt as though it would be hard being so far away from them. Fortunately, after only a few weeks, the homesickness is completely gone and I can fully enjoy everything New York has to offer. Especially with the advanced technology that we have at our disposal, keeping up with family and friends has never been easier.

I believe that the biggest difference between Baruch College and high school will probably be the amount of people that you interact with. Though my high school wasn’t that small, Baruch has much more people than does my high school. I think that this is beneficial because I will have a chance to interact with all kinds of people from different regions of the world.

I’m not sure how much my first year in college will change me, but one thing I am sure of is that I will definitely be more responsible and will be able to manage my time more efficiently. I’m also looking forward to getting a job and learning many of the important responsibilities that come with being a young adult. Baruch College will be a great experience.
