Me, Myself, And I

A)   My name is Rob. I am the first generation American-born in my family. My life = family, friends, cars, and sports. I love motor-sports and racing. If it has an engine and makes noise, I like it. I grew to love cars from a young age. My father bought me a professional racing go-kart at the young age of 7. Sadly, after only two years, I had to stop. It was too time-consuming and school was more important. My love of racing and cars is still with me to this day. I love watching Formula 1 Racing and Rally Racing on TV and also love playing racing video games. During the summer, fall, and spring months I bike as much as I can. I go to my friends’ houses, stores, and just out for a ride on my bike. Speaking of friends, I love hanging-out with them. We always have an awesome time together. During the summer, we all went go-carting and had a blast. We also love to play sports like soccer and basketball whenever we are all together. Sometimes we even make up our own games to challenge ourselves more. During the winter months, I go skiing almost every weekend. I started while I was young and have increased my abilities throughout the years. I love the rush of adrenaline when you are going down the slope at a fast rate of speed. All in all, I love challenges and want to become successful both in my college years and beyond.

B) Concerns about freshman year:

1)  Settling into the college atmosphere. It’s a change from high-school. Basically you are on your own. No one is after you if you don’t do your work. Only you decide how well you do. There is more free time, so you have to learn how to utilize it to your advantage.

2)  Doing well in classes. I don’t know how the professors are and how their exams are set up. They each have a different teaching style and I will have to get used to each unique one. I don’t want to let anybody down, especially my family, by not meeting their expectation and doing poorly in classes.

3)  Joining a club. I was part of many clubs in high school and want to find good clubs to join in Baruch. I will be looking for that perfect club during my first semester.

C)   The freedom of college life will make my experience different from high-school. My teachers were always going after students who didn’t do their classwork or homework. College is not like that. You are only hurting yourself if you don’t do the work. There is also more free time in between classes. Managing that time is key to success. So far, there has been much more reading in Baruch as opposed to high school.

D)   My first year will change me in many ways. I will see if my decision of coming to Baruch was really worth it. Obviously, I will gain more knowledge if I do all my work and stay on top of things in all my classes. Also, I hope to make more friends and join a club in school to help make connections for internships and future careers after college. Overall, I think I will gain more knowledge and independence in my freshman year.
