Charity

The charity I would like us to donate to is UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund. UNICEF is widely known for its effort in the humanitarian relief work for children through various methods of fundraising. The good word on UNICEF has been spread out through advertisement and many people and organizations have been trying their best to support the cause. As UNICEF states, more than 20,000 children die each day and they have been working for more than 60 years and in over 100 countries to stop this disaster. UNICEF’s goal is to make sure that every child has the health and education they need in order to survive.
According to UNICEF, the Horn of Africa is experiencing the most threatening humanitarian crisis. UNICEF has recently teamed up with Threadless (threadless.com/UNICEF) to host a fundraiser. If you check the site, you can get a cool shirt that corresponds to the amount of money you donate. Not to worry, all the money donated goes straight to charity. The design on the shirt represents what you have helped UNICEF aid to the Horn of Africa. For example, the shirt with the mosquito design on it symbolizes insecticide-treated mosquito nets (according to UNICEF, mosquito-borne malaria is the third largest cause of death of children in the world) while the shirt with the airplane design symbolizes a cargo flight. Even if we can’t donate enough money for a cargo flight, even a simple mosquito net can make a huge difference. So instead of going after those $70 shoes at the mall, why not get a cool shirt and save many lives with a vaccine for only about $25?

Setting that aside, UNICEF generally works to save the lives of children. It is considered one of the best charities that are continuously working to make a change, so let’s do our part in aiding them.

Question about ART 1011 assignment.‏

Hello Professor Neal,

I was reading over the assignment for our research paper due next Wednesday and realized that page 4 mentions something about illustrations in our essay, but the inclusion of pictures is not mentioned on page 1. I  was wondering you can clarify this for me? I know that page 4 is a guideline on formatting papers, but I just wanted to make sure if you would like us to include pictures in our essay, or not. Thank you for your time!

Who Am I? (Monologue)

Who am I? My name is Richard Choi and I was born and raised in New York. I guess college is alright so far, but I really have to start managing my time better and adjust to the recently-increasing workload. I still can’t seem to get myself to start my homework once I get home. My procrastination is probably due to my interests, so I guess I shall be telling you all a little more about myself.

There’s a lot of things that get on my nerves, but the things I dislike the most would be: heights, rollercoasters, carrots (they just taste awful), and most of all, strangers around my age who tease me and find me vulnerable. In all honesty, I consider myself a short, awkward- geek…gamer geek to be exact! Electronics, video games, the internet, and randomness are in my comfort zone. I’m an avid Nintendo fan, but also love video games such as NBA 2K11, Call of Duty, Ninja Gaiden, Street Fighter, and much, much more. Most of my life revolves around video games and technology. To be honest, I unintentionally end up researching and watching gameplay of video games, for systems that I don’t even own. Speaking of watching videos, I also love the internet; specifically for Internet-memes and YouTube. I’ve spent more time watching videos on YouTube than I do watching TV. I find it unfortunate that I can never really discuss any television shows with my friends. Anyway, personality-wise, I love being random. What makes me laugh the most are random jokes that defy the laws of physics. I also tend to be very laidback, humble, and caring at serious times; I love to help people out with any difficult situations they may be going through in life.

I don’t do much, so I guess art is my talent and helps me stand out. The thing I love to do most is draw, although that doesn’t mean I enjoy Art History! I’ve won the grand prize trophy in an art contest when I was in 5th grade. In 6th grade, I got 6th place in another contest, having only lost to college students. Drawing helps me express myself and it just relaxes me. It’s more fun when people are actually impressed by my drawings and comment on them. I sometimes accept drawing requests online and have been praised for my unique ideas, but that doesn’t mean that I am anywhere near professional.

My goals in life? Well when it comes to goals, I don’t really have any in mind. I don’t really know what I want to major in. I’ve mentioned a lot about my interests, which makes me ponder on future possibilities such as: animating a cartoon, developing a video game, or possibly making a YouTube Partners channel, but they are not what I fully desire. While I am currently attending Baruch College, I still can’t seem to grasp an interest in any business major yet. I also can’t really see myself actively engaging in business.

Baruch College is really nice and so are the people that go here, but sometimes I wonder if I’m at the right place. I hope I can find my calling in life real soon. Life can be challenging a lot of the time, but I guess it’s important for me to try and stay optimistic despite being in difficult situations.

Me, Scott Pilgrim style

Story time! (About me)

A) Hey guys, my name is Richard. I’m a Korean-American and I was born in New Jersey and moved to New York within a few months. I currently reside in Queens and have been living here practically my whole life. There isn’t much to say, I consider myself an ordinary guy. I love and care for my family and friends, although I don’t have anyone yet to call my ‘best friend(s).’ I also love tons of other things such as drawing, video games (Pokemon, Zelda, COD…I can go on and on about this), and the internet (Memes are awesome). Yeah, I love to draw. It is pretty much my art skills that give me a bit of a unique identity. I’ve won a few trophies when I was younger and also seem to catch people’s attention with my creativity. I am also currently managing my own little Facebook page.
My personality depends on the person/people I am with. I usually enjoy being very random and joking about defying the laws of physics…I’m not weird, or maybe I am? I also enjoy being kind to others and help people through difficult situations no matter how private it may be. Sadly, such assistance would usually be deemed as awkward. Its sad that people can express personal problems about things on websites such as Yahoo Answers, but in real life its weird.
This past year was rough and I am going through hard times, but I won’t go into detail on that.
So for now, I am trying to start anew here at Baruch and I hope to make new friends I can trust.
To wrap it up, I feel I am a kind-hearted individual with an open mind with a hint of seriousness.

B) What is bothering me the most as of now is homework. I haven’t even gotten more than half of my textbooks yet because they’re currently being shipped. I feel like I am lagging behind and I can’t organize myself this way. Another thing that worries me as of now is time management.  I come home really late so I need to adjust myself into cramming a bunch of reading into one night and I feel this is crucial to getting a decent grade. Another one of my concerns is whether or not I should stay in Baruch. I am currently an undecided major and just recently I felt business doesn’t really get my attention.

C) It is definitely the emphasis on independence that makes me think Baruch College will be different from my high school experiences.  Unlike high school, I am now responsible on managing when I get my work done. As I have heard numerous times, our professors won’t care if individuals don’t get work done so I have to stay focused and on task.

D) I have yet to see how things turn out at Baruch, but that depends on if I find interest in a major. For now, I think my first year at Baruch will make me mature and prepare me for the real world. I feel that I will become more independent, more socialized, and more open minded from the courses I take, the people I meet, and the general environment itself.
