Visiting the Rubin Museum was a enjoyable experience. The all around architecture and layout of the museum was well thought out and very eye-catching. While there my favorite piece was a celebratory mask that looked almost like a monster. It was very large and had a sense of realness to it.

Negative Nancy–Monologue
Who am I? Its such a miserable question! I don’t know who I am, I don’t know what I like, and I don’t know what I want. I also don’t know how I’m supposed to figure any of these things out so I wish they’d stop asking.
I look at my life and don’t see how I’ve accomplished anything that really means anything to others or to myself even. Five years from now I’m not going to remember how I won a creative design award for a booth I set up at a trade fair I went to in the twelfth grade.
I know that one day I will figure out exactly what it is that I am looking for, and I know that I will be able to make whatever it is a part of my life. There are lots of people out there like me who live their lives without ever getting an answer. It’s very depressing to think about. But why do I think I’m any different? What makes me special? Well nothing really, I just have hope and ambition and I feel like those are the things that will lead me to wherever I have to go.

Dear Professor __________,
I am emailing you in advance to ask if it would be possible to make up the last quiz. I was not able to come in on the day you gave the quiz due to an illness.
Sincerely,

Workshop 2: Rubin Museum
The Rubin Museum was very interesting. All of the statues seemed to be in a similar meditation style pose. The colors were very intriguing, golden statues with brightly colored clothing and jewels. The 1st painting we saw caught my eye. It was telling a story using the theme of karma. It looked complicated like a lot was going on.
workshop 1: STARR
I went to Starr career and development center on Tuesday 11/8 for resume review. It went really well, I set up another appointment to take the vocational test. The person who helped me was very insightful and clear when answering any questions I proposed. She also gave me info on internships looking for freshman that I should apply for.

Starting in my sophomore year of High School I started volunteering at a soup kitchen called C.H.I.P.S. Every Saturday I help open up the kitchen at 8am. For about three hours, myself and other volunteers prepare meals for about two hundred guests. The meals vary from week to week depending upon what we have available. Before the guests arrive we prepare boxed foods for them to take home as well. During the preparation time we sort clothing and regular house hold appliances for the guests to leave with. Once the dining area opens at around eleven, the volunteers and I begin to serve meals. I’ve done this now for about three years, every week, every single Saturday. After being there for so long I’ve come to develop a relationship with many of the people that attend the soup kitchen. It has been one of the most rewarding experiences that I’ve ever taken part in.
Monologue
My teenage Life
My name is Oshin Sharma .I am eighteen years old. Before moving to New York City I lived in India. I was born and brought up in India. India, the land where one can find different religions, cultures, traditions and different people following them but still everyone bounded with each other. India is a land where all the religions have equal value and people from different religion enjoy and celebrate each other’s festivals with same excitement and joy as they enjoy their own.
India is a land where one can find mixture of high class living as well as middle class families. India is the world where middle class families are known for the love, affection, tradition and culture which they follow by their heart. Moving to New York was a big step for me. I graduated from Hansraj Public School in India which has more than 5000 students. So I am very used to the crowdedness in Baruch college along with New York City. Attending college in NYC was my childhood dream .How could somebody not want to come to this amazing place? Attending college is in the city is just out of the world. Manhattan is so lively and fun. The night life is just amazing, something which doesn’t exist is India.
My hobbies include painting and listening to music. I listen to hip hop, R&B and Indian classical music. I find it really difficult to describe myself in a few words. From my friends and family, they have always told me that I’m a very nice and helpful person. I feel a sense of comfort and accomplishment whenever I am able to help someone .As there is a saying, “Take care of others as you would yourself and take care of you as you would others.” I’m not perfect ,I never tried to be .I’ve made mistakes I’ve hurt people, and I’ve left people behind.I have said things that I didn’t mean. I’m not better than anyone, anywhere I’m human.I have faults, and I’m not afraid to admit that .Besides all this I am a shopaholic. I love shopping and I guess that’s for every girl J.Speaking of girls I think I’m a little different because I don’t like putting “layers’ of Makeup on my face. It just helps you hide your scars for a little while but over time it really damages your skin. I believe in flaunting natural beauty ;).HAHA
.I think I am a very lazy type of a person. I hate to procrastinate work , but you all know what happens in the end. I end up rushing everything the last minute. You guys can imagine how long it took me to finally sit down and do my monologue. But yeah one of the most important things going on in my life right now is my education. I know I will have to take this very seriously. College is definitely a huge change from high school for me . Everything is a challenge for me. The high school and study pattern in India was completely different from what it is here. But you’re always going to have certain obstacles in life which you will have to learn to overcome. So I’m going to try to play this game of life and win .For now I feel like my life is covered with heaps of reading analysis, essays and exams. The only thing I love about working so hard is the three day weekend I get in the end .I make all my friends jealous cause no other college has Fridays off.({huhuhaha) evil laughter.}
I have this motto in life, I believe that as long as you love, pray, don’t screw up too bad, do what you feel is right, and live life to the fullest , because life is too short to and one should enjoy it to the fullest. Do shit that gives you happiness cause in the end you know everybody is entitled to go to hell in their own way. 😉

Community Service
For my community service I had to plan and conduct the restoration of a restricted area in Clay Pit Ponds Staten Island. The restricted area was once abused by locals and became a great mess. It has been made a restricted area in 2008 to promote its growth. Since than the area has been inhabited with wisteria which is a invasive species that actually destroys the enviorment. The community service included the removal of this wisteria and the general maintenance and protection of the enviorment. After a long day of hard work there was a great sense of accomplishment and all that participated was happy with the good that they have done for the community.

Subject: Social Media Networking through Twitter
This past Thursday on November 3, I attended a workshop on how one can utilize twitter as a valuable business online network. Twitter’s has a mass communication capability that makes it easy to connect with people. There were many key points this workshop discussed. The main ones included things like making sure you are clear in showing others what you want to talk about. Also important that the content on ones twitter profile page is appropriate and appealing, because that is mostly how one gains followers. Retweeting others is also a big aspect, so that others don’t get bored of those who only promote themselves. Mix it up and make it interesting! Additionally #hash-tagging others is yet another way to get connected on twitter. Linking to other social conversation shows other that you are paying attention to their pages as well. Lastly twitter offers a further network feature that creates wider opportunities and it is called ‘twitter discussions’ which is like a group chat at certain times of the day. This workshop gave me a greater knowledge and better understanding of how useful twitter can actually be.
