For my community service involvement I connected with a certain organization called i-Shine. It’s geared towards nurturing young children who have at least one immediate family member suffering from cancer or some other type of serious illness. A volunteers’ job there is to give the child they set you up with, 4.5 hours worth of undivided, special, one-on-one, attention, which they’re lacking in their own homes. Since their families are so tied up with aiding the sick member, they often unavoidably neglect some of these young children because they simply just don’t have the time. Therefore these children come here so they could have a few hours a week to shine themselves. I was paired up with a 7 yr old girl whom I instantly formed a bond with. I helped her with her homework, played a few games, and had dinner with her. I think she impacted me more than I even impacted her. Therefore I have made a commitment to help out there one a month.

Hi Professor Lee,
During the Mondays MTH_2003_GRTZ class you stated that for assignment#3 question #27 to use the second derivative theorem. However, I am having trouble as to how to find the delta x? Am I supposed to set delta Y to the Ymin and solve from there?
Thank you
Resume Workshop
I attended a workshop in which a fellow peer helped review my resume. It was very helpful and, she was very polite in her feedback. Instead of it having a strong concentration on high school and being enormously academically oriented, we focused more on career and leadership qualities. She gave me tips on internships and resources in which she thought I would be interested in. It was an overall beneficial experience.

Later i hope to work for the UN, the IMF or the World Bank, but it probably wont happen straight out of college. anyway i just wanna do my work and finish school as fast as possible so im going to try to finish it in 3 years.
Resume workshop
I went to a resume workshop a few weeks ago. it was really helpful. when i first showed the guy my resume he pretty much tore it apart. it was kind of funny how he had written more than i had. he sent me this really useful outline for a resume, that i used and now it looks extremely professional. i submitted it to a few places and so far i have gotten lots of positive responses, even though i’m not seriously looking for a job. the only that sucked was how he mentioned we shouldn’t talk about stuff we did in high school. everything that i have thats resume worthy was done in high school.
Money blog
I went to a workshop on how to effectively save money through college in order to come out fine and without major credit card debt. the information in the it was great but it was pretty boring. The guy did point out some cool things though. he told us it was best to graduate in 4 years, because thats one more year to get a job and earn money, even though graduating in 5 can be easier. he also discussed how quickly expenses can pile up if we do no watch what we are spending. He was a nice guy overall. the problem was just some of his math was way off.

Monologue
I moved to the United States when I was 10 years old at the beginning of the fifth grade, following my mother and her job at the United Nations. Ever since then, my life and culture has been changing to create the person that I am today. When I first arrived, I did not speak nor understand a single word of English and had a hard time for the first few years.
Eight years have passed since that and now I’m attending college in the city; a place where I can practice and maintain my second language while meeting new people from all around the world with backgrounds as colorful as mine. My father is a mix of Moroccan and French while my mother was born and raised in the ivory coast, a small country in western Africa near Ghana and Togo. I grew up with that heritage in France, and it was already colorful. So when I moved here, and I was a French, Moroccan, and Ivorian mix I stood out like a sore thumb in the small suburban new jersey town I moved to. I was quickly known around the mostly Jewish community but managed to integrate myself in the town despite the many cultural differences.
Now I have lived in New York and am enjoying it very much. I get to meet people of familiar backgrounds and have managed to even find people from the region the village I grew up from in France, which only had a population of about 500. Although my move here was recent, I feel like this is where I want to be and where culture thrives, clashes, and evolves constantly.
Of course, I am proud of my heritage and who I am. I’ve come a long way to become who I am and I’m glad I ended up being who I am today.
Community Service
I recently volunteered around 4 weeks ago to participate in the annual kidney walk that takes place from Seaport to the Brooklyn Bridge and back. As a volunteer, I unpacked boxes of shirts for the participants, handed them water ,etc. My main job as a volunteer was to lead the kidney walk while carrying a banner with the signature of some of the participants. I had a lot of fun volunteering and will continue to volunteer more in the future.
