It’s the end of my first semester at Baruch. Well what can I say it has been a bumpy ride but I made it. I am actually surprise it went by really fast. I met new people learn new things and I am more open. I was use the college life, but now i know what to expect for my up coming semester and surely I was perform better both in and out of school.I am looking forward to the break I need a vacation from school. But before my break I have to worry about my finals which I hope to do well on.

Blog #3 end of semester

Oh well, Oh well the first semester of my college life has come to an end. That means 1/8 of it is gone and there’s 7/8 left to go.  That nice break looks really good right about now. My impression of Baruch after a semester is similar to most people’s impression of the MTA after riding it a few times. It does the job well, in this case educating students for rewarding careers, at an affordable price but could be a whole lot better. There are times where I wondered what life would be like at Columbia or NYU. Why is it that you have to make your own social network here instead of just walking right into one? It could just be my boring life outside of class but one of the expectations I had was for that to be taken care of. At the 12.5% mark through the season Baruch has a .500 record. If that keeps up then head coach J. Washington will have to pack his bags and head elsewhere.

Resume Workshop

The STAR develop department is very helpful to the student body. I attend a resume workshop where a student assistant help me enhance my resume, by letting me know what to change and what to keep. Also showing sample resumes and intriducing me to a cover page.  I learned some new tips for creating a great resume. Also I was inform about interships that are avaiable to freshmen. Everyone was friendly, I was told to fix my mistakes on my resume and make another appointment for them to review it.

Community Service

I’m sure everyone in life has some stressful situations that need to be escaped from for a while. A great way to do that is by doing something you love and helping others in the process. That’s why community service is such a good thing. I recently visited my high school to give a helping hand to students struggling with their classroom material. It was a great experience for myself and the students. When students in Physics class made a mistake solving a particular problem I was there to explain it. The teachers were also grateful to have assistance doing the challenging work of enforcing their lessons. If a teacher was giving a lesson I helped with paperwork or grading tests to make myself more useful. I was proud to share my academic talent and interest in education with a student body that should be even more motivated to strive for success.

This semester has finally come to an end, although it went by pretty quickly I enjoyed the semester. Although this semester has been a rough one for me, I have learned a lot about myself and about life in general. I pledged for a fraternity this semester and it was probably the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. I feel extremely proud to say that I got through the pledging process and become a Lambda.Finals time is around the corner and I’m a little shaky on how I think im going to do on my finals but this week I will story hard and make sure I score great on all of them!

Community Service

Community service is giving back to your community. Whenever I have free time I attend walks such as aids walk, march of dimes and breast cancer walk. I also tried to raise money to donate to help find a cure. I do not mind at all vounlteering I enjoy it and the feeling is great knowing that you are heping others by taking time out of your life and putting it to better use. I also help tutor children to enhance their reading and writing skills at a day care center every friday. Helping others is something I love to do, some kids parents are not always around so they appreciate having peer mentors like myself. They would always let us know how thankful they are having us to help them. I’m thankful myself for being a role model to these students, they inspire my in many ways and from my experience working with children I have grown as a more confident individual.

Baruch Voices

Baruch voices was an interesting experience. We got to hear the different stories and experiences of different people. Some of them were way to personal for me. One of them was so emotional and touching that I almost had tears in my eyes while others were full of humor. All the monologues were presented by people other than the writer of the original story which was a little surprising. I thought the students who have been chosen will be reading out there monologues themselves so that the original effect of their feelings attached to their story would be felt by the audience.

Rubin Musem

My class trip to the Rubin Museum was very fascinating and educational.I saw exhibits which showcased the art from the Himalayan culture. The museum had many statues, sculptures, pieces of jewelry from the Hindu and Buddhist culture. The atmosphere of the museum was very calm and a wave of tranquility prevailed there. There were many statues of different gods there. The two statues that i really liked were the Ram Parvati and Ganeshji. In the Ganeshji statue the god that Indians worshipped sat on a rat which worshipped the God and was its ride. All these sculptures and jewelery are so well preserved and safe in the museum.

I’m a Big Kid Now

Only just a few days left in my first semester of college, the semester that I was really motivated for, ready to take on any task at hand and start off college on a good note. I ended up dropping a class and am worrying about whether I’ll fail 2 other classes or not. The reason for this is not my work ethic or laziness, its just the fact that I’m working 5 days a week and I would never believe that fatigue could hit me so hard. The exhaustion influenced my dedication to focusing in classes. I decided that I’ll quit the job midway through winter break and start off the spring semester with a bang. Hopefully it’ll go much better than this one. Overall, it was a good semester but I’m definitely aiming for a much better one next semester.

Speaking Across Differences Workshop

On November 29th I had the pleasure of attending the above titled workshop. It was, as its description stated led by a Palestinian/Israeli woman who talked about the Palestinian/Israeli struggles that they face daily. I arrived late and from the moment I took my seat I was lost, but I noticed the lady was quite nice. I was intrigued by the stories she told and by her struggles. It was an enjoyable workshop.
