How to e-mail a professor

by Crystal

Hey guys, you need to put a pseudo e-mail, including a subject line, to an anonymous professor addressing one of the three scenarios below.

1. You are having difficulty figuring out a specific homework exercise.

2. You received a semester grade of B- in one of your classes but based on your own records you think you earned an A.

3. You missed the midterm due to an illness.

    Dear Professor. Johnson,
My name is Deepika Kalla. I am in your Law 1001 class. You had assigned a homework assignment recently about writing a paper on the amendments of the Constitution. I tried the homework but had a little confusion with the purpose of the assignment. I did not fully understand what the paper was asking for. Does this paper need to be a formal, research paper or should it be a rough draft that encompasses the idea in my own words? I would greatly appreciate it if you could elaborate on the assignment so I can execute it to the best of my abilities.
    Thank You,
    Deepika Kalla

  2. Sorry I realized I messed up the previous comment. so here is the new one.

    Dear Professor. Johnson,
My name is Deepika Kalla. I am in your Law 1001 class. You had assigned a homework assignment recently about writing a paper on the amendments of the Constitution. I tried the homework but had a little confusion with part C of the paper. I did not fully understand what the section was asking for. The question asked, ” So and so question.” If you could elaborate on what this section of the homework assignment is asking I would greatly appreciate it. I’d like to do the best I can on the assignment and this clarification would help me significantly. Thank You.
    Sincerely,
    Deepika Kalla

    Dear Professor Smith,
My name is Sam Huang and I am in your Math 2610 class. Due to an illness, I missed the midterm you assigned. Is there some way I can make it up? If you pull up my records, I did every single homework, took every quiz and test, and participated during each class. Please take that into consideration, and much obliged.
    Sincerely,
    Sam Huang

Hello Professor (Blank). I’m working on my essay on Sylvia Plath’s The Bell Jar and I’m not sure what to make of the symbolism of the bell jar itself. I’m stuck trying to figure out what it is. Do you have a suggestion? Thank you.

    Dear Math professor,

On October 12th, I had serious infectious out break and had to go to the emergency room for immediate treatment. Furthermore, I had to be on antibiotics for nearly a week. I understand it would be a great hassle but I was wondering if there was anyway I can make up my missed midterm. I would be grateful if you give me another chance. Thank you for your considerations.

    Dear Professor O

This is Anthony from COM 1010. I contracted a contagious illness from 10/17-10/21 and was therefore unable to show up to take the midterm for your class. I apologize for the inconvenience and ask that you allow me to retake the exam. I have a doctor’s note should you need it.

    Dear Professor Muzzio,

I am currently enrolled in your (a) class. Recently I missed the midterm given on (b) due to illness. I have a doctors note should it be necessary. I was hoping we could work out some terms under which I would make up the test. I deeply enjoy your class, however, I am conscious of my GPA. Would it be possible to arrange a meeting to discuss this issue? Thank you for your time.

    Sincerely,
    Gregory Romano
