Hey, my name is Lee Eliyahu and I’m from Great Neck, New York. I chose to attend Baruch College because of the city life, my interest in business and knowing a handful of Baruch students from my high school. I enjoy listening to music, working out at the gym and making money. I always take advantage of going to clubs or concerts with my boys on my free time, which is why I’m so happy that i finally turned 18 last week.. Now I could finally get the chance to use my real ID :).
Although I’m trying to be as optimistic as possible my freshmen year, I still have a few concerns. I’m commuting to Baruch these days and I have to wake up 2 hours before my classes actually start just so I could make it on time. I cant even imagine how much worse the commute is going to be when winter comes along. Also, I’m not used to having a syllabus to follow and not being reminded about test and assignment due dates; I feel like it’s going to take some time for me to adjust to that. Lastly, I’m concerned about passing my classes for the first semester; I heard from many students that they had failed their first semester courses because they haven’t adjusted to college yet and needed to retake them. Failing a course would ruin my gpa!
When I look back at it, Baruch can’t even be compared with my high school. Even though my college had the excitement of open campus, I feel so much more freedom and independence at Baruch. I feel like I’m an adult all of a sudden. Also, my school was dominantly one nationality, so going to Baruch, one of the most diverse schools out there is a great experience. The students here are very easygoing, which makes it easy for me to go out of my shell and meet new people.
I already feel like I’m a part of this school and look at it as my second home. I’m proud that I moved on to bigger and better and hope everything goes well throughout this year.
the first semester of college is just plain hard and you got to have the long view and know that it gets better. I was an A student in high school and my first semester in college I got all C’s and almost got a D in English (and I was selected as the best English student in my high school my junior year).
It’s a big adjustment and you’ll make it, but it is hard.
