Who do youthink you are

My name is Ryan Bucci, and I am a freshman here at Baruch college. I have grown up all over NYC and I attribute my level of acceptance of different people to that fact. I am athletic, I play soccer, handball, and football mostly, however I can play pretty much any sport I apply myself to. I also like art and have been an avid sketcher all of my life.
As far as concerns go, my top three for college are as follows: grades, graduating , and social life. In my generation within my family there have been many college drop outs as well as people who just decided not to continue schooling, so there is a lot of pressure on me to succeed, and I really want to as well. With this said I also wish to continue my social life and I am not ready to sacrifice that just yet. I hope to find a balance here at Baruch and I’m sure I will.
I am not so sure how I will make my college experience different from my high school experience as someone who went to high school in the city and was on the starting line up of the varsity soccer team. I am hoping In the future to join clubs or a team, but I am holding off on those the first semester with hopes to familiarize myself with the work loads.
I believe that college will change me a lot as a person. So far in this past few weeks I have gained more knowledge then I have all of my senior year and I find myself applying myself a lot more in and outside the school environment. I am hoping this trend continues throughout my years here.

  1. I can appreciate the pressure to succeed that you describe. I was the first one in my family to finish college. It would be great to see some of your sketches some time, maybe at the end of class. Bring something in. Making Baruch College different than high school. Maybe make it more about academics: get to know your professors, form study groups that can also be social groups. Take courses you don’t even know if you will like. Do academic events like lectures and plays and music events that you wouldn’t normally have done before. Have your choices be different.
