My hobbies are playing sports especially baseball. i love playing baseball since i was little. I attended Grover Cleveland High School in Ridgewood, Queens. My top 3 concerns are adjusting to the school, grades and making friends. I came to Baruch to study International business or accounting. I hope to have a great experience in Baruch.

New Life

Hi, i’m Mir. I am from Bangladesh. I have been living in New York for one and half year as an immigrant. I have completed high school from my country. Baruch College is my first educational institution in USA. So, I am tying cope with the new environment. Living here feels like a whole new life. I have so much to learn about this society. Also the city is pretty hectic. I am tying to get used to it.

My concerns about the freshman year are language, friend, test .                               English is my second language. Obviously I’m not fluent. Also I did not attend high school or any kind of institute to learn the language in USA. I’m relying on my previous experience to communicate with others. Still trying to improve it. I am concerned that I may struggle with tests because it is different from my country. I really miss my friends from my country. But I look forward to making new friends. Most of the students here are really nice and friendly.

College experience will certainly be different from high school. In high school it was teacher’s duty to prepare us but in college I have to prepare myself and do a lot of study of my own.

My first year experience in college will help me to became familiarize with this new environment. Also I am hoping I will be more assertive and be involved with college life. Most importantly, I want to make lots of friends and have a lot of fun while learning all new things.

Hello all

I am Yumin Chen. I came from China 3 years ago. Now, I live in flushing,Queens. I attended John Bowne high school which locate in front of cemetery. Like most Chinese, I am good at math and science. My english is really bad. I have problem to read and write. I need twice time of you guys  to read a article. I am 6’2, so everyone ask me:”do you play basketball”? “Yes, I do play basketball, but it was long time ago.” My daily life is really simple, go back and forth between school and home. My friends in Baruch are those who were also in John Bowne high school. I don’t want to make new friends in Baruch because I really want a simple life. That’s all about me.

Hello All!

Hey Everyone,

So my name is Julie, I live in Manhattan, have a brother and sister, and went to high school around the corner, Baruch High School. I learned how to play the instrument, flute, in middle school and really enjoyed it. However, since that was a borrowed instrument from the school, I never had the chance to play it since then. In high school, I had two years of AP art and realized that I really enjoy drawing; I even wanted to study in architecture after that! I didn’t do that and ended up in Baruch College to study actuarial sciences because my family and friends convinced me that studying in the arts will make me have to live my life poor. Many people don’t know what is actuarial sciences when I tell them I want to study that in college, well, it’s people that study about risks in the world. These professionals usually work in the insurance, stock market, natural disasters, and some other risk-related companies. I want to do this because I really like math and have interest in the sciences – maybe I’ll be working for the people that calculate the chances of having the next largest natural disaster.

In addition, I am a very shy and reticent girl. Hopefully, THE 1041 will make me louder and have more confidence in myself. That’s all, thanks for reading!

I am involved with many different things in school, but I suggest you all try to get involved with Team Baruch! I will be talking more about it in class. It’s awesome!

So I should do homework for now, but I hope to see you all on September 12th!
