The theme for this year’s PERFORMING DIASPORAS: IDENTITIES IN MOTION project is “Who Do You Think You Are?” Reflect on the following four questions, and craft a response of no more than 500 words. Feel free to integrate media into your post. (Pictures, videos, music..)
- Tell us who you think YOU are!
- Share your top 3 concerns about your freshman year at Baruch College and explain why.
- So far, what do you think will make your Baruch College experience different from your high school experience?
- How do you think your first year at College will change you?
My name is Michael Jason Ruehlman and I think I am much different than the average person. I was born and raised in Ohio with a mom, dad, twin brother, two sisters, dogs, cats, and monkeys. Yes, monkeys. I have been an animal lover my whole life and love learning more every day especially about primates. Primates are my favorite animals and they are such intelligent and emotional creatures that it is scary to me sometimes! I also admire entertainment very much. Besides being the animal lover I am, I have also been a keen lover of the arts. I hope to find myself as a professional actor and singer someday; which is why I came to New York City! My top 3 concerns about my freshman year at Baruch College include not knowing how to navigate through the city, not fitting in being from a big country music state, and not being able to handle being away from my twin brother for the first time in 18 years. Being away from my twin brother is what I fear most as we were inseparable back in Ohio did everything together, always. This is going to be a challenge for me to not have him here to talk with or share what is going on in the big city. My experience at Baruch will be much different from my high school experience as it is taking place in the busiest place in the United States and it is in the city rather than the country. I believe that my first year of college will definitely change me. At least I hope it will, and for the better. I am striving to better myself as a person and I hoping that being out here on my own and in college will get me closer to knowing my true purpose in life. I want to leave a legacy, and I am just hoping that my choice of attending Baruch college will open those doors for me.
