This seminar didn’t really help my understanding of money management. I found the speaker’s message to be repetitive, reiterating things that should already be common sense. The time we spent at this event definitely could have been spent towards something more productive.

Art in museums is often weakened by the atmosphere of the building, the presence of other visitors, etc. Despite our guide’s explanations, I could not understand the art emotionally, even though I understood it cognitively. The turning point was the Tibetan shrine room. Among the many relics like rosaries and food offerings, there was also dimmed lighting. The entire atmosphere provided context for the Tibetan gallery as well defining the ethos of the religion. One could imagine meditating here alongside past ascetics turned transcendent sages, immortalized through their statues of Bodhisattvas and Buddhas. It was a nice break from class but as a college student, I have other priorities on my mind.

I had no interest in any of the pieces at the Rubin Museum until I saw the Buddha shrine on the second floor. The donated shrine was majestic and displayed several of the aspects of Buddhism; including the seven bowls of rice and water. The bowls of rice and water symbolize a sacrifice to the Buddhas. While at the museum, I learned that not only is the shrine a piece in the museum but it is also a shrine in which individuals come to pray and show worship to.

The presentation was surprisingly a fun experience. Harry King relates events to social networks that everyone uses everyday such as Facebook. He also made the presentation very entertaining and gave out twizzlers! He also talked about building up credit that would help you when you get out of college since we start with none at the moment. I learned that I can start to build up my credit by opening “insecure” credit cards since all the credit cards I applied to had all rejected me. The presentation was very useful when learning about investing your money and building your credit.

That night was a fun night to remember in the future. Lots of fun spent with friends. The walk also showed support for unfortunate cancer students and for people who had passed away with cancer. It was surprising to see how many people came to support the walk. I also saw old friends from high school there. It was a night to remember since it was the first walk I had gone to during the night. The balloons and light decoration really made the blocks in manhattan and the brooklyn bridge glow.

This seminar was informative to a certain extent but I didn’t really gain much from it. The key is to use cash rather than credit cards so you won’t be in debt when you get older. Thats the only important thing. The bit he did with the if you give tea from home rather than buying it every morning you can save money is true but you won’t save that much money in the long run. The motive of the seminar was to encourage students to save money as they go through college and Im sure he educated a few people.

This presentation was no different from the many presentations that I have seen that dealt with credit cards and money management. The presenter had a lot of energy and appeal. I believe that most people in the audience should have paid more attention because they really need to know this information. I know most of this because I researched it. As I have said before, this is not my first money management presentation. I do not not manage my money that well because I spend way more than I should. I have tried budgeting just for fun, but that did not work out. I do not own a credit card yet because I do not see any use for it at the moment. Later in my life I would definitely get a credit card, maybe an American Express Black Card. 🙂

From the name of the workshop, I had a bad feeling about the event. The speaker went over, unsurprisingly money management and common pitfalls into which college students run. While I understand the workshop’s good intentions, I felt many of my peers understood financial planning already. This is an example of modern society’s unnecessary hand-holding. We often take 20 years to achieve autonomy, if any at all. This should’ve been taught much earlier by parents or otherwise.
If given a choice, most students would not care about these events at all. While I understand the school’s perspective, I’m frustrated that the school coerced me to attend.

This event was a complete waste of my time. Good thing I brought pasta so I wasn’t bored the entire time. Everything the speaker was saying was pretty logical. Of course we’re gonna spend money on food, trasnportation, clothes, and entertainment. How else are we gonna live? Im lucky enough to have a job and be able to manage my money well. Although I didn’t actually listen to much of what the speaker was saying, he seemed to be really enthusiastic and energetic. Too bad the audience wasn’t.

I had a great time at the Light the Night walk, mostly because I’ve never been to the Brooklyn Bridge in my entire life. It was a great experience and it was good to see that alot of people came to support breast cancer awareness. I actually walked the bridge TWICE, from Brooklyn to Mahattan, then Manhattan to Brooklyn. Also it was nice for everyone to attend the event as a freshman class. After the back and forth walks and the human traffic I got home very tired and went straight to sleep!
