during your college and adult years? Why or Why not?

-Yes I believe that I will stay involved in community service because my mother is involved in a lot of community service and I would like to follow her.

12) Sum up your service-learning experience in a one-two sentence headline.

A) Tell us how your experience at Baruch College has lived up to your expectations? Not lived up to your expectations? exceeded your expectations?

-My experience has somewhat lived up to my expectations being that it is more work than it was in high school and that it what I expected.

B) How well do you think your first semester at Baruch College went?

My first semester at Baruch was okay. I was keeping up with the work at first and sort of slacked off towards the end but I’m sure I’ll do better next semester being that  I know what to expect.

C) What would you do differently during your first semester if you could do it all again?

-I  would of taken my school work and academics more serious and work harder on assignments. I would of actually studied for certain things and not procrastinate.

D) How have you changed since you started at Baruch College?

-I’m probably more responsible and disciplined being that I have more things to worry about and responsibilities.

Monologue

I could have sworn that just the other day I was asking my mother for permission to ride my bike on the sidewalk. But now I’m asking her for permission to borrow her car. Something isn’t right. I feel like I don’t have time for anything anymore. I used to stay up all night. Now I can barely stay up in some of my classes. There’s no such thing as free time anymore. I don’t have time for myself or anyone else. My days go by so quick and every day is the same. I wake up and get ready for school. Whenever I’m ready to leave, I walk to the train station and get on the train. If I’m lucky maybe only two people will ask me for some money. I mean I don’t really mind giving if I have it, but damn I gotta give somebody something EVERYDAY?!?! What about me? What am I gonna be left with? Anyways, I get to school and everything just becomes a blur. I feel like I’m moving in slow motion and some of my classes just makes everything worse. How my art teacher expects me to not fall asleep when she turns off all the lights and sounds like the guy from the Visine commercials?  And then expects me to know every last thing about art like my last name is Picasso? She should know better. The same things happen every day. Whenever I’m done with my classes for the day, I chill for a little bit then go to practice and only God knows when that’s gonna be over. Well when it is over, I get on the train and head back home. So on average, I end up home at like 10:30 – 11 p.m. Now you tell me where the hell did my day go? So you mean to tell me I’m supposed to come home and open a book? Yeah right, the only thing on my mind at this point is how many hours of sleep I’m getting. And being that I’m lazy doesn’t help the situation either. It’s like I’m always sleepy and I have no idea why. I mean don’t get me wrong I get things done when they need to be done. But I don’t know why whenever I think about work all I wanna do is suck my teeth. Like, there are so many other things that could be done in this world. Like instead of speaking to you guys right now, I could have been in the white house asking Michelle Obama what we’re having for dinner. Seriously. But honestly, I have big dreams and I’ve come too far to let them go. I have a vision and I swear I could see it so clearly. Ten years from now, I’m gonna go to one of those fancy little restaurants where you don’t even understand what they have on the menu and I’m gonna pay the bill for me and my friends and tell the waiter to keep the change. Then, I’m gonna give him a $100 dollar tip just cause I could do that. Ahhh I can see it now. Oh and I’m definitely gonna go back to all my old schools and tell all my teachers and professors “LOOK AT ME NOW!” But anyways, I’ll just do whatever I have to do now to get where I want to go.

First Mandatory Post

a. Tell us who you think YOU are!

I think I’m a cool down to earth kind of person. It takes a lot to really get me upset just because I don’t let little things stress me out.  I like to laugh and overall just be happy. I also try to be respectful and humble just because I think that’s the right way to be and the right way to carry yourself.  I’m also kind of lazy and it’s like I move in slow motion sometimes and I dont know why. I’m just real nonchalant I guess.

b. Share your top 3 concerns about your freshman year at Baruch College and explain why.

1…My first concern is how I’m going to be able to manage my time when its comes to getting my work done. Like I said before I’m kind of lazy and will choose sleep over work on any day. But at the same time, I know right from wrong so I know as soon as I figure out a schedule for myself, I’ll be just fine.

2…Another concern is being able to get to my classes on time. I’m commuting from my home in Brooklyn so it takes me about an hour to get to school. I take two trains and on a bad day I might have to take three. One of the  worse things is when you find out your train isn’t running or it’s delayed so that’s a big concern for me. BUT so far I’ve been doing good so I hope I could keep it up.

3…My last concern is exams and finals and stuff. It’s not that I’m a bad test taker, it’s just that I’m not good at studying at allllllll. I don’t even know how to study so this might be an issue. I’m definitely going to find someone to help me though because I don’t want to be a failure.

c. So far, what do you think will make your Baruch College experience different from your high school experience?

So far, I think that playing on the Women’s Basketball Team at Baruch will make my experience here different from my experience in high school. I say this because I did play on the girls basketball team at my high school but, playing ball in college is obviously a completely different level of intensity and competition. I think it will make me more disciplined and focused.

d. How do you think your first year at College will change you?

I think my first year of college will make me a bit more independent being that I have to do more things on my own and not depend on anyone. It will make me focus on my future more and help me prioritize better. Also, manage my money better.
