Hi, I am Jiayu Liu

Hello, I am Jiayu Liu. I am just a normal Chinese girl. All my friends said that I am a lazy and careless girl, and I think so too. I only care about what the things that make me interesting. And if the thing that is not my business then I will ignore it. My mom always blames me because of it and wants me to put many efforts on everything I do, but I don’t want to force myself to do anything that I don’t want to. I just want to be myself and I don’t want to be what the people want me to be.

The first concern about my freshman year in Baruch College gets a better grade on Political Science, Anthropology and Math classes. The second concern about my freshman year in Baruch is English class start early in the morning. The third concern about my freshman year in Baruch is improving my writing and communication skills.

The different between high school and college is we are allowed to use laptop during the class in college; and there are no late works are accepted in college; also we can leave the building whenever we want without permission.

I think I will become more open minded in my college year. And my first college year will teach me time management.

Hello! I am Mingoo Kang!

Hello, my name is Mingoo Kang. I’m just an ordinary Korean guy and I’m trying to break through my old lazy habits. By the end of the semester, I seek to be a more responsible and mature person.

The first of the three concerns about my freshman year at Baruch College is keeping my GPA up. I’ve experienced the difficulty of trying to get my GPA up during the last two years in my high school and this time I will try to do it right from the start. In relation to my first concern, the second thing I’m concerned about is that I have to teach myself mostly. I was used to the “spoonfeeding” from high school where I didn’t really have to study at home to keep up in class. But now, I have to get used to actually study after school. While not directly related to my college experience, the third concern I have is about commuting. It takes an hour minium to get to school and I can’t really ignore the transportation fares.

So far, having to commute and having to teach myself will be the biggest transition from my high school experience to that of Baruch’s. I also really enjoy the freedom I haven’t had much of in high school such as using cell phone or leaving the building freely.

My first year at college will teach me how to manage time efficiently. It will also teach how to be more responsible mainly through having to teach myself and working to pay for my own expenses.

This is who I am!! Sarah Kim

Hello, I am a Korean American girl and I always try to finish all my assignments/projects way before the due date because I learned a very important lesson when I was in elementary school. Back then, I used to procrastinate like most of my friends and put all of my work to the side and always played first. But, one day when I had a big research project to type up about 10 pages, my whole family were going to eat dinner out at a family party, I was so sad and also angry at myself for procrastinating. So, after this incident I always try to do my work ahead of time. As you can see I am writing this today.

The top three concerns I have regarding my freshman year at Baruch College is first, I would not be able to keep my GPA high, because I heard it is hard to pull up the grades later on. Second, I do not know how to sign up for my classes, especially because I would not be in a block anymore. Third, I would like to find a better way to buy textbooks next semester because the books are so expensive.

So far, I think that College is really different from my high school because the students can first, use cell phones, laptop, and other electronics in  college without trying to hide from anyone such as the deans who would confiscate them.  Secondly, after we finish taking the test students can leave the classroom. Thirdly, students can leave the building when they want without worrying about being suspended.

My first year in College will make me learn two important things. First, to teach myself, because some professors do not teach everything they should, so in order to take the test, I need to teach some stuff on my own. Second, I will have learned how to manage my time with studying with the long time traveling to school.
