My name is Elizabeth Mesias; I am a feisty Latina, and Italian. I’ve lived in Flushing, Queens my whole life, all 18 years, even though I was born on Staten Island. I also learned, to speak, read and write both Spanish and English by myself. I graduated from Francis Lewis High School in June 2011, and really wanted to get accepted into Baruch College.
One of my three concerns about my freshmen year at Baruch is the heavy workload, and trying to manage my time to get my work done on time. My second concern is getting good grades, of course, on exams and my classes. My third concern is trying to get a job, so that I can pitch in with my parents to pay for the next three years of study at Baruch.
My Baruch College experience will be different from my high school experience because I will try to join as many clubs as I possibly can, and just try to stay involved in the school. Definitely the costs of books in college are way different than in high school. I’ll just have to try to be smart in how I spend my money and look for great deals on books online.
My first year in college will change me because I will try to be more outgoing and optimistic about things, and I’ll learn to manage time for homework, projects, and studying. Definitely, an increase in responsibility will change me, since I can’t rely on my guidance counselors to help with issues, and spending my money wisely also goes hand in hand with responsibility. Overall, I hope that my college years will be the greatest years of my life and I look forward to the coming years.
