  1. a. I am a brother, a son, a cousin, a student, a former Nutmegger and future New Yorker, and an American. But most importantly, I’m an individual.

    b. One concern I have is missing a class. Usually if I miss a class and fall behind, it becomes really difficult to catch up because its throws off my learning flow and college classes matter much more than high school classes. Another concern is gaining the Freshman 15. Although I’m fat to begin with, I still don’t need the extra pounds. A third concern is

    c. The town I grew up in was 98% white (actual statistic), so Baruch is really my introduction to the diversity the world has to offer. I also have to be more accountable for my work and I need to give my all because it will open up opportunities in my future.

    d. I will become a more responsible person because I don’t have my parents or anyone telling me to do my work. Although I grew up in the suburbs, I knew I wanted to live in a city, and Baruch is making that transition easier.

  2. Do we really need to make it so formal? Oh well, here goes:

    a) Who do I think I am, you ask? Well for starters, I am the first Asian-American (Korean-American, to be exact) in my family. I am also, an “trainee new yorker” and an undergraduate at Baruch College. Although I would like to portray myself as an exemplary student, I’d rather not lie. I’m not the brightest of students or the most hard working. However, I put efforts into my work and tend to not give up on things.

    b) Aside from the usual concerns that students have (not understanding the lessons, failing a class, etc.) one concern that I have is the time in between classes. In some days, the time between classes are over an hour, which is great. Other days however, I only have 25 minutes in between classes (15 because I like to be in class early). I find eating lunch in 15 minutes to be rushed, for I like to enjoy taking my time.

    c) Unlike Eric, Bayside High School had around 90% Asians (in my opinion) and Baruch seems to have a lot of Asians as well. Anyway, I think the freedom that we experience here at Baruch will make my experience different from high school. In high school, students are forced to stay in the building until the day is over. At Baruch (or any other college I suppose), whatever we do in between classes is our business, which I think is a great change of pace.

    d) I think the first year would make me become nocturnal. All jokes aside, I believe that freshman year would make me change as an individual and help me become more responsible, knowledgeable, and open-minded.

tl;dr Here’s my mandatory blog, hopefully posted at the right place

  3. Good point, Greg! LOL. It doesn’t need to be formal as long as you answer all the points in the question. This is a question I was given to ask you guys. Thanks for bringing that up! 🙂

A couple of other things I want to mention:
    1. If you need a study partner, let me know. I’m bad at studying myself so I find that it really helps to have someone sit with you and study (regardless of the topic).
    2. I’m going to be at the school gym pretty often this year because I would like to build up my stamina at running. If you want to tag along and be my gym buddy, you have my number so let me know!! 🙂
    3. Greg, you will have the option to choose your classes next semester and I’ll be there to help out with any problems so hopefully you’ll find a good time for lunch! I like to take my time as well. LOL.

  4. Crystal, I don’t know if it’s just me but I believe you called me Eric (if I’m mistaken, I apologize). I find that highly offensive and I will be bringing up a lawsuit (j/k)

  5. LOL!! Oh dear, I’m sorry. LMAOO. I was also thinking about Eric’s worries about gaining the Freshman 15. I’ll fix that right away. 😉 But everything I said can apply to everyone. BTW, I’m actually surprised that people are blogging so early on. Everyone normally waits until last minute. So thanks! HAHA.

  6. AM I FIRST???!

‘I think’ I am a Chinese 18-year-old female. . . I am an admirer of the arts—I love music and drawing. I’m sure I’m not the only one who puts a new song on repeat for hours and gets sick of it that same day.
Religious affiliations. . . I am agnostic (the people who believes in maybes and possibilities =0~) and I believe that karma exists. Watch out people.
I am a still hoping leprechauns exist and over the rainbow is a pot of gold because it is so easy to make a rainbow with a water hose. =(
I’m a child at heart. . . I just like to be mature
    I’m a Baruch student
    I am NOT a blogger person. >=/
I think I am really confused how I’m supposed to respond to this- like what format. . . but I’m a college student so I should decide for myself yes? fun fun fun. . looking forward to the weeke-. . . LOL

Top 3 concerns starting from least worrisome:
Raining when I am walking to another building. Why is it a concern? Because I will melt.
I am afraid there will be too many essays! When essays stack up, they’re that much harder to do.
Next I am worried the professors won’t like me because I don’t like to participate. . . I will do something about this haha
And the top concern is dun dun DUN failing? ._. I think this one explains itself, who likes to fail?
Pretty mundane stuff, easy to relate to yeah?
    Doing assignments wrong . . it’s a concern because. . .it was done wrong. . .?

What I think will make Baruch College experience different from high school. . .
more time in between classes, longer class hours (balances out with ^), quote Greg “food is expensive” =(, A LOT more freedom, whoa! The same people are in all my classes! Haiiii friends~ <3 (I know it’s only for this semester), I’ve never had a semester without a science class, high school didn’t have a freshmen seminar, high school also didn’t have lecture halls, or 3 buildings.

I think I’ll be more productive, I’ll learn how to spend my time wisely and not procrastinate as much. . .proven by how I think I’m the first to post this and I’m hoping I didn’t do this too. . .wildly. I should get out of the habit of putting ‘uhms’ and ‘hahas’ and ‘. . . . . .. . . . .. . . s’ and ‘yeaaaaas’ here and there and lessen the use of ‘LOL’? But honestly I don’t think the first year of college would change me much. . . I guess I’ll develop new interests. .

I’m still not sure how I’m supposed to format this. I guess I’ll be corrected later. . . =x Did I write too much?

    What up people xD

err btw I'm kidding about melting.

  7. Tell us who you think YOU are!

Hello, my name is David T. I am an undergraduate Baruch student and a future Big 4 accountant (hopefully). I was born in Boston, but raised in Brooklyn. An eighteen year old male with a strong ambition drive that craves success.

Share your top 3 concerns about your freshman year at Baruch College and explain why

The top 3 concerns that has been making sleep very well since the college started is GPA, extracurriculars, and work experience. I understand that there will be a huge gap difference between high school and college so I would have to work harder and learn to adjust to the “college system”. Another variable that can effect my GPA would be the selection of classes I would have to make for the spring of 2012. Getting work experience and being involved in clubs will help me establish networks that can help me “land a foot in the door”, famiilarize myself with recruiters, and get a head start on the subject of accounting.

So far, what do you think will make your Baruch College experience different from your high school experience?

In the past two days, I have experienced a variety of events that I have not experienced in high school. For example, having classes with people of a diverse age range. With older people in my classes, I hope to learn some quality life experiences and lessons from them, so I can prepare myself when I enter the job industry. I have
also increased my stamina by running up (at least 7) flights of stairs when the elevator is too crowded or the elevator stops for some apparent reason. The environment where Baruch College is located will give me a big advantage in terms of job opportunities.

How do you think your first year at College will change you?

Freshmen year will impact me the most by making me more independent and teach me how to manage my time wisely. Even though college is 15 hours per week instead of 30 hours per week (like high school is), the professors give a great deal of workload and expect great responsbility from the students.

  8. a. I’m just somebody trying to take care of business in college so that I can start my adult life on the right track, like getting a well paying job and stuff

    b. first concern is that with all the work i won’t have time to go out and chill. Second concern is that im starting to get tired, and I’m turning into an old man, I started falling asleep way too early. Third concern is getting stuck in a cramped elevator with like twenty people that smell.

    c. There’s a lot more free time during the day to just kick back, and the professors aren’t bothering me for petty stuff like putting my feet on a chair or something dumb. Also the fact that we can do tests at home.

    d. It won’t change me at all, I knew what I was doing in high school, and i know what i have to do in college, so far everything i planned is on track

I hope this satisfies my blogging quota for the rest of the semester

  9. LOL, @Linda. It’s alright. Being 3rd isn’t so bad since you’re only blogging. As long as you do it before it’s due, it’s totally fine. ;)–> There’s your emoticon.

@David, I actually interned at a Big 4 company when I was a junior in high school. I interned at KPMG but not in the accounting department.

@Vyacheslav, LOL. Don’t be too excited. You only did 1 so far. 2 more mandatory posts to go.

@Greg, I don’t really care how you write as long as you “keep it clean and keep it nice.” And don’t forget, readable…LOL. I can already see myself typing that a lot.

  10. Hmmm, it could be that because you are the author and not the admin. I might be the only one that can edit. LOL. Sorry. But I will double check and get back to you on that.

  11. a. Tell us who you think YOU are!
I think I’m someone whose lost, I don’t exactly KNOW what I want to be, but it seems a lot of people around me already has their mind set on what they’re majoring in, or will be in the future. I don’t exactly know what I’m working towards, I know I want to succeed in whatever I do, hopefully… I think I’m an ordinary teen who just wants to have fun and experience the freedom you get in college.

    b. Share your top 3 concerns about your freshman year at Baruch College and explain why.
My top 3 concerns about my freshman year is definately making schedules for next semester because everyone just makes it seem so hard, and you really notice how competitive it gets when choosing classes considering how much each class can really hold. Another concern would be making friends. It’s not that easy to just meet a friend that you have class with and be friends for that class only, it’s really about making those friends you’re willing to hang out with, to chat with, and be yourself around. My next concern would probably just classwork/ tests etc… because it’s something you don’t wanna mess up on.

    c. So far, what do you think will make your Baruch College experience different from your high school experience?
Well, firstly it’s the amount of people in lecture classes… the question of how to make yourself stand out and make your professor actually LEARN your name, really gets me. High school is just the regular 30 students in a class, well in my case, sometimes even 35… The freedom recieved in college is just too cool. In high school? You can’t leave the premisis, you can’t have your cell phone out in the hallways, you can’t hang in front of the school for TOO long, basically, you can’t do anything… not literally. Uhm, another thingggg, is probably the fact that people here are probably WAY more mature than in high school. In high school, it’s just one obnoxious high schooler after another, and sometimes it gets really annoying. :/ but maybe it’s just me? The note taking is crazy important and sometimes you spazz, cause in high school it’s just whatever’s written on the board is what you need to copy down and take note of. In college, it’s not like that, sadly…

    d. How do you think your first year at College will change you?
It will definately change me as a student, I’ll probably learn to be more diligent and maybe stop the procrastination on homework… but that’s kinda hard to change. Uhhh, it’ll probably change me as a person, depending on the people I choose to surround myself with.

  12. a. Tell us who you think YOU are!

Well, my name is Jamie, obviously, lol. Born and raised in NYC and loving it here. I am an undergraduate student at Baruch College. I absolutely love to bake! I do hope to open a bakery of my own one day. It would be nice to be my own boss.

    b. Share your top 3 concerns about your freshman year at Baruch College and explain why.

    1. Being lost and confused. I adore the city. I just love the atmosphere it creates for me. It’s always so busy and full of people constantly walking around. However, it’s also very big to me and I don’t have a very good sense of direction. My first day taking the subway to school on Tuesday was going well until I exited the station and had no idea where I was. I felt so lost and literally did a 360 until I took a lucky guess and found my way. I was pretty nervous that I was going to be late for my first class. Thank goodness I was an hour early that day so even if I was completely lost, I’d still have an hour to find my way.

    2. Not doing well in my classes. College is definitely not like high school. The professors aren’t going to baby you and make sure you do your work. I would say I did fairly well back in high school, but what can I say, I’m a worrywart. If I don’t understand a homework or I do it wrong, I worry that the teacher’s going to be upset with me. When it comes to tests and quizzes, I feel like I’m going to pass out, and it’s the worst when they’re tests in school, not even like NY standardized tests. Is that weird? Can you imagine what I’m going to go through when midterms and finals come around? D:

    3. Making new friends. I’m still really use to just having my high school friends around and knowing that they’re not with me anymore in the same school and same classes makes me miss them a lot. I honestly felt like I wasn’t ready to make new friends yet, simply because I wasn’t used to my surroundings, but I’m starting to talk to people more and I feel good about it.

    c. So far, what do you think will make your Baruch College experience different from your high school experience?

Being a college student most definitely gives you a ton of more freedom! You get to leave and enter the building as you please, bring food into the building, just hang around the hallways and benches, and most importantly, YOU CAN USE YOUR CELL PHONES. First day of class, I was still in high school mode, and was actually scared to take my phone out to use until I see basically everyone else texting away and listening to their ipods. Most of my classes so far are only 20 something people except for one class which has over 100. I’m not too used to that so it’ll take some adjusting to do. For some reason, back in high school classes only lasted at most 45 minutes, but it felt like years. Classes are twice as long in college, yet time doesn’t pass by too slowly. Note taking’s a biggie for me. I’m really used to just copying whatever’s written on the board by the teacher, but here all the professors do is talk and it’s up to me to write down what’s important which scares me a bit cause I tend to tune them out at times and miss what they have to say. Also I have short term memory so after the professor finishes saying something I should write down, I’d be in the middle of writing the sentence, but then forget the rest of what he/she said. :/

    d. How do you think your first year at College will change you?

I think it’s going to make me more independent. No one’s there to tell me what to do so I’m going to have to depend on myself. Maybe less shy? Most people seem pretty friendly around campus, so I might be more comfortable in talking to others around me. It’s going to make me more mature as well. When I look back, I feel somewhat stupid as to how I acted back in high school. I’ve never really procrastinated too much back then so I don’t think I will here…or at least I hope not.

  13. **Tell us who you think YOU are!
I am a freshman at Baruch College studying a major that is probably more what my parents want than what i want. I try to be independent but there are many times where I feel being independent is choosing to be alone (my opinion! lol). I hope to be very successful in the future but not get too caught up in the amount of money i make and focus more on be successful in other factors of life. I love to cook and bake, and i would love to own a business of some sort in the future. Having lived on Long Island all of my life the move to the city was a quite a change but i love it so far and am sure that i am going to end up living here permanently. I love having fun but at the same time i know my limits and when i need to be serious.

    b. Share your top 3 concerns about your freshman year at Baruch College and explain why.
I am concerned that my professors will grade me based on whether they like me or not and not based on the quality of my work, which scares me because i want to make sure that in my first year i achieve a high gpa.
I am concerned that i am going to lose the balance of having fun and making friends and focusing on my studies. I don’t want to be stuck in my room everyday making sure i do my work, i want to make the friends that will last for my college career also.
I am nervous of how big the workload does get and about the difficulty of my classes, and basically everything that has to do with homework.

    c. So far, what do you think will make your Baruch College experience different from your high school experience?

What is definitely different from my high school experience is that there is no one there to really make the decisions for you, such as which classes you should take and helping you make sure that you are able to take those classes on time and finish in four years. Teachers are also not making sure that you do your homework everyday and calling your parents if you don’t, you have to keep track of yourself and only you will put in the efforts for your own grade.
Also, my high school is very small so i knew everyone in my grade as well as all the other grades. At Baruch i hardly ever see the same faces everyday, only those who i have in class.
Another thing is that there aren’t so many rules and restrictions in college. I do not have to dress based on a dress code, which did not allow flip flops or tank tops.
I agree with Jamie, my classes were 39 mins each and felt like they were 2 hours long, yet my college classes are almost 2 hours long and they do not feel that way.

    d. How do you think your first year at College will change you?
I think that i am going to become more independent. I am going to get used to the fact that i have to push for things to happen, they are not just going to happen on their own, and i have to keep track of my own grades. If i want to get experience with internships i need to go and ask around and find one, my counselor isn’t going to do that for me. I am very shy about having to go to the offices and ask for help on things or just even asking someone for directions so i am definitely going to have to break that habit now that i am living in the city. Also, my first year of college is going to kill me because i always procrastinate, hopefully i will break this habit soon.

  14. a. Tell us who you think YOU are!
OK, I am Guocai Jiang. Since it may be hard for you to pronounce, you can just call me CAI. I am Chinese and I have just been in the U.S. for 2 and half years. I am a freshman of Baruch college now. I am also that kind of people who do not know who they will be in the future.

    b. Share your top 3 concerns about your freshman year at Baruch College and explain why.
. taking classes that i do not like. Actually i am taking them right now. for example: American history…
. I am afraid that i can not handle those thousands of readings. I am always falling asleep while im reading..
. there is not enough time for me to eat lunch on Wednesday, because I have 4 classes that day and there is only 25mins in between classes.

    c. So far, what do you think will make your Baruch College experience different from your high school experience?
First of all, i can go to bathroom anytime i want without a heavy pass. I have more free time than i was in HS. My earliest class starts at 10:20 am, so i can have enough sleep and go to school with my eyes open. however, i need to spend more time on transportation. most professors assigned a lot of readings and most time they do not check if you did your homework. This means i have to be more responsible for myself.

    d. How do you think your first year at College will change you?
First of all, the college will make all college students become more independent. I am also going to be more self-disciplined and make my time more useful. most importantly, i am going to be more knowledgeable.

  15. a. Tell us who you think YOU are!

Well my name is Tasmina. Im kind of a procrastinator hehe ^_^ hence the last minute kindof post but it doesnt seem like im the only one. Im a pretty girly person and i like to watch tv and just hang out most of the time. Im a freshman who is unsure of what i want to be in the future but as long as it makes me happi : ) ill be okayy.

    b. Share your top 3 concerns about your freshman year at Baruch College and explain why.

my first concern is not having an umbrella on rainy days because i dont really like being rained on especially when i have to sit in class with wet clothes

my second concern is reading so much because i really dont like reading especially history textbooks and there is so much assigned reading

my third concern is the obvious, not understanding the course materials or doing bad in classes

    c. So far, what do you think will make your Baruch College experience different from your high school experience?

There is a lot more people at Baruch for one and there is also weird subjects such as information research which i did not think was a real subject. Also the fact that professors have everything planned out already on a syllabus which helps me keep track of the work i should be doing.

    d. How do you think your first year at College will change you?

The first year at college will help me become a more responsible person and help me learn to manage my time more efficiently rather than waiting for the last minute because their is a greater workload.

  16. I totally forgot about this until the email and a friendly reminder from Linda.

    ._.
    a. I am Denise Tuan.. at least I think I am LOL correct me if I’m wrong. Well, I’m also a sister, a younger sister. I’m also a student at Baruch College. I’m a daughter to my parents, obviously. I am an absolutely hilarious person, not really; I like to think I am. Shh.. I secretly am!

    b. First and foremost, BEING TRAMPLED BY THE MILLIONS OF PEOPLE. I mean I came from an overly crowded school, but at least there I was somewhat bigger than everyone else and I could just shove everyone around. I think if I shove someone here I might get knocked out.

Second, the overwhelming amount of reading and writing assignments. My last year of high school was pretty chill and I barely had any work. I just need to find my groove back into all of it.

Third, not being able make friends as easily. In high school and all the years before that you pretty much had all your classes with the same people and if you were smart you constantly had the same smart people in your class. Teachers also encouraged group work, or at least some of my teachers did, so you had no choice BUT TO TALK to people.. even the ones you didn’t want to. But in college it’s all about independence. Everyone wants to be their own person. I think it’s even harder here at Baruch because it is a communter school. Some people don’t even care to make friends. They’re just here to go to class and get out.

    c. I have to find a way to have a decent lunch on Wednesdays.. In high school, you pretty much have lunch every day. I think that’s mandatory.. I don’t think they can starve us. But in college you get to decide when and where you can eat and sometimes you lose track of time and you just forget to eat or you have classes back to back that it’s impossible to eat anything but a fruit roll up in between class. So much for Freshmen 15.. more like Freshmen -15.

    d. I think everyone for this question pretty much says that they’ll become more independent, but I disagree. I think by the end of my first year here I will become a frugal 18/19 year old. The cost of living in the city is way too high and you think since the college is filled with broke students that the cafeteria would serve cheap food. BUT NOOOOOOOOO, SHAKE EVERY PENNY OUT OF US.

Btw, Crystal when do you go to the gym? I’ve been meaning to work on my cardio (:

  17. a. Tell us who you think YOU are!
I already know who I am, teehee. I am a procrastinating computer fiend; the two traits kinda go hand-in-hand. I want to change this habit of mine, but I often find myself delaying this task by going online… as usual. I am also a person who cares either too much or too little, depending on the situation. I guess you can say I’m a simple-minded person. I’m also a stickler for good grammar/spelling and cleanliness and a huge family-oriented person.

    b. Share your top 3 concerns about your freshman year at Baruch College and explain why.
One concern I have is being able to maintain a 3.2+ GPA. I mean, high school is definitely waaaaay different than college and it was way easier back then. It won’t be an easy task, that’s for sure. Another concern I have is making friends in college. I know it’s only freshmen year still and I’ll have three more years to make connections, but sometimes it’s scary to do so in my own opinion. A third concern I have is falling asleep during classes, which I know I’m prone to do. With all the textbook chapters we have to read, I can already see late nights trying to catch up on those readings. I don’t have the attention span nor the brain capacity to pay attention and keep all that information stored. jk of course… kinda.

    c. So far, what do you think will make your Baruch College experience different from your high school experience?
In college, there’s so much more freedom as a student. You can pull out your electronics freely without having to worry about deans confiscating them. You can also just about go anywhere as long as it’s within a reasonable time frame. However, with that type of freedom comes responsibility. You have to be able to make your own decisions now since there won’t be guidance counselors or teachers hovering around you making sure you’re doing this or that; you won’t be babied anymore. You have to stay organized and on track all on your own.

    d. How do you think your first year at College will change you?
I think my first year of college will make me more independent. You can’t always rely on others to tell you when assignments are due or what to study for the upcoming test. I need to get used to the fact that in part of growing up, you have to be self-supporting. It’ll be a hard habit to break, relying on others, but I’m hopeful my freshmen year at Baruch will change me!

  18. a) HIII My name is Lauren Rozanski. I’m the classic “Long Island” girl. Who lives in the suburbs, owns a dog, has two other sisters. I’m a freshman at baruch college. I think i’m a hard worker like to the extreme. All my friends make fun of me because they think i’m the biggest nerd of all times. and that’s tru! i will devote illions of hours for a test just to make sre i do as well as i can. I regret it like crazy if i know i can do better.

    b) 1- Doing well in a “college” class. I’ve dealt with high school classes for four years. But i have never dealth with a “college” class. I dont know what to expect. Is it harder? Easier?
2- I dont have teachers harassing me or spoonfeeding me information and work anymore. I have to be much more independent and organized and be on my own back.
3- If i dont like a class, i simply cant just switch out or go to an easier class. Classes get full veryyy fast and i cant simply switch into anothe rclass. My old skool would allow me to switch a class if i really wanted to, but not here!
    c) (well everything above) I have to act more like an adult!!
    d) I think i will learn to be more mature and organized. I will learn to be more prompt and get things done when they are meant to be done!

  19. a. Tell us who you think YOU are!
I am Manjot Singh. I am studying at Baruch College. I live in Queens with my family which consists of my parents and my two siblings. My parents are from India and I am Indian-American. I am really dedicated to school and I do all my work to the best of my ability. I love to play basketball and watch the nba. Also, my favorite team is the Lakers. I also love to watch Indian movies.

    b. Share your top 3 concerns about your freshman year at Baruch College and explain why.
One of my top concerns is that classes in college are going to be really hard and I might not do as well as I want to. Also, that there is going to be too much work and I might not be able to complete all of it on time. Another concern is that I might not be able to understand the professor or I might get a really bad professor and therefore I might not do well in the class.

    c. So far, what do you think will make your Baruch College experience different from your high school experience?
What I think will make my college experience different from my high school experience is that in college I am a lot more independent. Unlike high school in college you are a lot more free in the sense that you don’ t have teachers that will be constantly reminding you to do your work. Also, that in college you don’t have to take every class every day like in high school and there are breaks in between classes

    d. How do you think your first year at College will change you?
I think my first year of at college will make me more disciplined and hard working because I learned that in most classes your going to get a lot of readings and papers to write and in order to do that I am going to have to stop procrastinating. For college I am going to do most of my work ahead of time and not wait until the day before something is due.

  20. a. Tell us who you think YOU are!
I am Shen Lin..but i like to be called Jenny. It would take me a few seconds to react if you call me Shen. People often ask me how i got the name Jenny from Shen. I actually dont know myself. Ever since i was little, thats all i remembered..my name is Jenny. Also, I am a sister of a little brother that is twice as smart as me, although he is younger by a year. I am the daughter of a loving mother that never leaves her watch over me. I am who i am.

    b. Share your top 3 concerns about your freshman year at Baruch College and explain why.
My main concern in Baruch freshman year is how my GPA will look like after my first semester. I am not use to the way homework is given out and the amount of reading I have for each class. I am afraid of doing bad since college is the real deal. Another concern of mine is that i am afraid of getting an unreasonable, mean professor. That would be the last thing i want. With a horrible professor, it would not matter how hard i try in class. Also, i am concern about my best friends in highschool. I don’t want to distant myself from them just because i am in a difference college. I dont want to leave my old friends behind just because I made new friends.

    c. So far, what do you think will make your Baruch College experience different from your high school experience?
Now that I am in a whole new environment, I am definately more independent compared to how I was in highschool. In college, I am making my own choices and choosing my own path that i want to take. I feel like a young adult rather then a teenager. Also, the friends I make in Baruch would probably be my life long friends, since people do say college friends stay till the end.

    d. How do you think your first year at College will change you?
I think College will let me understand how important it is to make your own decisions. I believe by the time I graduate, I will be able to find myself and know who i really am. I think I will learn how to study better and be more independent. I would also ask my friends for help when I dont understand something, but now I am surrounded by unfamiliar faces. I will also be able to interact with people better then I did before.

  21. a. My name is Qingyan Liu, aka Vincent. Not that obvious, but I was made in China. I am a well-human being. Peace! I am the younger brother of my family and have one brother. I was a senior last year, but now I’m a freshman at Baruch College. I’m very indecisive when it comes to determine what my future major would be. There are many hobbies i obtained in high school. Among those, I am very into music (for fun purpose only) I enjoy playing piano and compose some pieces for fun, but College and a part-time job I got barricade me from practicing… >,<'' So much work to do!! Anyways, I also like to dance. That's all for now, ask me if you want to know more~

    b. Top 3 Concerns:
    1. Adjusting to the new environment. This is considered to be the one of my top concerns because it's always hard to blend into a new environment. But so far I'm doing okay with this adjustment thing. ;P
    2. Papers. Writing is always a pain in the ass for me.. Even though, I've received some compliments on that area, but what they don't know is that I tend to struggle in writing; especially after a whole senior year without taking English Course (that's because I've had enough of English credits). It made it even more diffcult.
    3. Reading speed. I read slow, literally. One of the reason that I read slow is probably becasue I don't like reading; I'm lazy. And because English is not my first language, it's always been a bit harder to read faster.

    c. Well, from now on, I'm very much independent. No one's pushing me, but myself. And LOTS of readings and writings to do.. Besides these, I haven't found any other differences yet. Well, partly it's because my high school, Edward R. Murrow H.S., is an unique high school that grants students a lot of freedom. It provided students with an environment that is very much like a college, so that when students go to college, it won't be very hard for them to adjust themselves into it.

    d. Oh I'm already changing! I'm striving for good grades. Back in high school, I did strive, but never strive hard because that was all it takes to get an "A". But college is different, it is HARD, mainly becasue there are SO MUCH readings to do.. I suck in reading.. T.T But it's kind of good for me apparently. I believe that at the end of my freshman year, I will be more disciplined and become a hard-working student. Even though I'm still the kind of student that submit their work at very last minutes (like this blog), but I've just made a commitment to myself promising when it comes to the assignments, "no hesitation without proper definition"!! LOL 😎

  22. a) Given the ambiguity of this question, I’ll try to make some personal allusions to my beliefs and experiences, which, presumably, will paint a picture of who I am. Though, if you ask me, any one person would need an entire lifespan to render the complexity of their experiences in text. Human beings are a perpetually changing entity, possessing a highly adaptive mind and, in time’s respect, an indefinite physical shape. So, in other words, what you are about to read will probably be, dare I say it, merely superficial. With these sentiments in mind, I’d like to bring my babbling digression to an end and maybe shed light on a thing or two. Firstly, my parents meant no harm when they named me, although most people will find it baffling why anyone would name their child with such an obvious innuendo. Over the years I’ve come to embrace it, although I may ultimately change it, simply for efficiency’s sake. After all, a brand is only useful if it’s readily within mental reach. Much to your disbelief, you may also be interested to know that I am not native to American culture, but actually deviate from a quaint (as far as New Yorkers are concerned), yet terribly misrepresented eastern European country. But, at the risk of sounding trite, I would like to spare you the cliche ‘coming of age’ narrative which I’m sure we are all too familiar with. In short, I received my first taste of American life six years ago. It was at this time that I became intimate with my rationality and began to distinguish between the truth (or my perception of it) and the outlandish. Nowadays, I am a professed atheist, convinced that we are a trivial race, with a tragic flaw (pride) that makes us hopelessly confused. But enough about ethics; I am young and far more naive than I imagine, but luckily, my appreciation for life spans beyond the norm. Visual arts have shaped much of my past, I enjoy cooking as a therapeutic medium, and I have great aspirations for the future. While some would attest to the benefits of spirituality, to which I cannot deny credence, I prefer the solid grounds of science. As you can tell, I am deeply opinionated, yet always open to interpretation, only as long as the opposition is beyond question.

    b) It should come as no surprise that my primary concern is to secure as high a GPA as I possibly can, and this is prompted by a number of reasons. Mainly, I am anticipating to attend graduate school which, as we all know, can be highly competitive. However, I am also becoming increasingly mindful of what course of action is best for my future and may choose to transfer shortly, although this decision is still under my deliberation. My second concern bears on keeping a watchful eye on my work as procrastination is perhaps my most potent vice. It has been a notable obstruction in my past but I imagine my priorities have taken shape anew. Lastly, I am anxious to proliferate a resume that is fit to impress by becoming aware of internships and taking part in clubs, something which I seldom payed attention to in the past.

    c) Being part of any university allows certain amnesties that are generally unheard of in high school. For instance, the overall sense of freedom is daunting; whereas teachers once observed us with an unyielding conviction, we new enjoy the liberty to move about freely and prepare for classes at our own expense. Needles to say, textbooks seemed like a commodity that many of us treated like a regiment, but only now do we acknowledge the weight of their convenience in the past. Equally as remarkable is the efficiency of professors which is very much unlike the disorganized agendas of high school teachers. Yet, as an unfortunate circumstance, the most noticeable change is the vast amount of students who care to their own affairs.

    d) College, like any other new experience for that matter, will probably have the most profound impact during the first year. I believe, with all things considered, that it will primarily serve as helpful insight into higher education. However, I cannot consensually assume that one year will be so fulfilling as to considerably change my persona. Ideally, this transitory period should act as a foundation and reenforcement for the studies to come. The knowledge acquired during this period is irrefutably important, both from an academic perspective and background standpoint.

  23. a.) Who am I? Well, I’m currently a freshman at Baruch College. I am also a daughter, a niece, a sister, a cousin , and a granddaughter. I am originally from french west Africa but i was born in the United States. I speak french fluently. I love to read novels. My favorite types are Harlequin novels. Two of my favorite shows on television include The Rachel Maddow show and Desperate Housewives(even though there haven’t been any new episodes so far. I also like to bake. I know how to make red velvet cupcakes off the top of my head. I intend on majoring in Finance at the Zicklin school of business. I want to get into the Zicklin school of business because I know that the knowledge I acquire there will help me succeed in the business world. After graduating from Baruch College i hope to land a job in investment banking.

b.). My number one concern is that i wont get a high g.p.a during my first year at Baruch College. I want to have a strong beginning so that i will be encouraged to do even better during my next three years.
. My second concern is that i won’t meet than many people this year. I want to meet as many people as i can during my four years at Baruch College.
. My third concern is whether or not i will be able to handle all the work that is given to me during the next two semesters.

c.) I think the college’s setting will make my experience here different than my high school experience. Another factor that will make my experience here different has to do with the high volume of incoming freshman at Baruch College this year. There are more people to mingle with. There are more places to hang out and numerous amounts of clubs to join. The diversity at this school is amazing. When you are introduced to different cultures it helps broaden your horizons.

d.) I believe that my first year in college will change in many ways. I think that i will be able to manage my time better at the end of the semester. My four years of college will probably make me more responsible. When i graduate from Baruch college hopefully i will become more knowledgeable.

  24. a. Tell us who you think YOU are!
I am a New York City boy that wants to make it big in life. I am a son, and a little brother to my older brother and older sister. Throughout my life I have been dragged around by my family to learn the ways of ‘life’, learning to interact with successful businessmen that grew up in a poor neighborhood. In this aspect, I have a feeling that my family aspires for me to become a professional in the field of business as well. I have yet to decide my major, but that is mainly because I’ll have my first two years of college to decide that; there’s no point in rushing myself into a major when there’s still time to experience which specific field would best suit me. Speaking honestly, I am seriously considering transferring schools within the first two years here as my main intention in attending Baruch was because of its extremely generous tuition. However, things in the future might change and I might decide to stay here for four years if things turn out like I have heard from the stories of others. I dislike reading, but I usually end up reading anyways as it is required in my classes.

    b. Share your top 3 concerns about your freshman year at Baruch College and explain why.
Concern #1: Maintaining a pleasant GPA. By pleasant, I’m expecting to push myself towards an overall GPA of at least 3.5. However, the workload in Baruch is quite different from any I’ve experienced in high school.
Concern #2: Not being able to network to my fullest potential. I have looked into a few organizations and took extreme interests into a business fraternity. However, in order to be qualified to apply to this organization, I must establish a credible GPA during my first semester here.
Concern #3: Time management. I am fully aware of my awful time management skills, which only got worse during the summer. I need to make some serious adjustments to better my current sleeping patterns, and to allow myself to better manage class assignments. (Count on me to do this blog last minute!)

    c. So far, what do you think will make your Baruch College experience different from your high school experience?
There haven’t been any distinct differences between high school and Baruch, aside from the 3 day weekends (yay!) For now, we are placed in LCs and grading curricula are pretty much identical to the ones every high school student gets. And of course, increased work loads.

    d. How do you think your first year at College will change you?
I (hope) to make a lot of new friends, and to become more sociable in general. If everything goes the way I hope it goes, not only will the above happen, but I will be on my way to learning the basics of business and setting an education foundation to my future major. Of course, this is only if everything goes the way I hope it goes.

  25. a. Tell us who you think YOU are!

I am… a person? A very independent one in pretty much every aspect. Obviously a freshman at Baruch College. I am a very outspoken person that needs a little bit of censorship.

    b. Share your top 3 concerns about your freshman year at Baruch College and explain why.

My number one concern is how to get and maintain a high gpa. The past 12 years of my academic life was basically a joke. I do not remember when the last time i opened a textbook or did homework.
My second concern is how I’m going to do school work while still going out every weekend. I need to learn to balance school work and social life by myself.
My third concern is horrible professors. Some professors keep bringing up their beliefs and when you dont agree with them, it affects your grades. I think that is really unfair.

    c. So far, what do you think will make your Baruch College experience different from your high school experience?

Well, there are a lot more people in Baruch than my high school. about 4 times more. The campus is also very big. I am not as limited as I was in high school. There is a lot of work, especially homework that we actually have to do.

    d. How do you think your first year at College will change you?

I think it will make me more open minded overall after meeting many new people and being exposed to different cultures, ideas and information.
