How to e-mail a professor

Hey guys, you need to put a pseudo e-mail, including a subject line, to an anonymous professor addressing one of the three scenarios below.

1. You are having difficulty figuring out a specific homework exercise.

2. You received a semester grade of B- in one of your classes but based on your own records you think you earned an A.

3. You missed the midterm due to an illness.

  1. Subject Line: Regarding my absence

    Dear Professor X,

I sincerely apologize for missing out on the midterm today. It seems that I was careless with my health yesterday and now I am paying the price. I developed a bit of a fever; nothing too serious but caused me to miss out on classes. I have visited the doctor and received a note from him regarding my health. Because of this unfortunate event, I hope that you would allow me to make up the midterm. I apologize for all the inconvenience I might have brought to you.

    From, Greg Min

  2. Subject Line: Midterm Makeup

    Dear Professor

I was not in attendance during the distribution of the midterm exam. The reason being my health. I have fallen victim to a severe case of stomach virus. I have to be within five feet of a bathroom at all times, otherwise i might have an accident. I have had a doctor visit my home, and she has written a note concerning my current condition. When I am healthy i would like to request a chance to makeup the midterm i have missed at your convenience. Thank you for your time.

  3. Subject- LIBxxxx Journal 8

    Dear Professor x

I’m in your LIBxxxx course and I don’t understand journal 8 that is due this Thursday. I feel the assignment is too vague and I’m not sure whether I’m supposed to write a story of an individual or of the statistics that are provided. Can you please clarify what kind of story I have to write?

    Thank you,
    Linda Li

  4. Subject: Missed Midterm

    Dear Professor _______,

Due to illness, I was not able to attend class today and take the midterm. I had a severe cold which left me feeling fatigued and therefore, I was not in my best condition to take the test. I have received a note from the doctor regarding my health. Is there any way I can make up the midterm and take it on another day? Please let me know. Thank you.

    Sincerely,
    Jamie Eng

  5. Subject: Homework Difficulty

    Dear Professor,

Hello Professor, I have a question on problem number 18. Since we ran out of time

today in class and did not get the chance to discuss taylor series, how are we suppose

to do this homework exercise? This problem is incredibly difficult to solve and I’ve

tried multiple methods but nothing seems to work. I asked my peers for help, but they

also can’t to find the solution. Can the due date for this homework exercise be

extended to friday? Although we did not get to the lesson today, the class enjoyed

the story of how you managed to escape from two grizzly bears during your summer

vacation. Thank you for your time.

  6. Subject: Information Regarding My Absence

    Dear Professor,

Due to a severe illness, I am unable to attend class and take the assigned midterm. Please excuse me from the midterm and allow me to take it at another time. Sorry for the inconvience.

    Thank you.

  7. Dear professor,

As you may be aware, I was unable to attend the midterm yesterday. I was feeling very ill and could not even get out of bed. I would truly appreciate it if you could allow me to take the midterm on another day. Sorry for the inconvenience and I hope you understand my situation. Thank you for your time.

  8. Subject: Re-midterm?

    Dear Professor,
I was unable to make it to class to take the midterm on ________. However, this absence was not intentional and I do regret my misfortune. I was ill that day and could not attend class. I hope you will be able to allow me to retake the exam. I will provide you with a legitimate doctor’s note at the next class. Please consider this factor and give me a chance to show that I have learned and mastered what you taught us. Thank you!
    Sincerely,
    Ellen Jin

  9. Subject: Final Semester Grade

    Dear Professor,

As you may know I have received the final grade of B- in your class, however, according to the records I have of my assignments I feel I deserve an A as my final grade. I believe their could have been a mistake in your calculations. Can you please contact me back regarding this issue.

    Thank You,
    Manjot Singh

  10. subject line: grade correct

    Dear Professor,

I would like to know why i received a B- because from my own calculations, I feel like i deserve an A. I got a 95 on the first exam and a 96 on the second. I got a 88 on the midterm but my overall test average does not accumulate a B. Also, I do all my homework and i have perfect quiz grades. I am never late or absent to class. I would like to know why i received a B-. Thank you.

    From,
    your A student

  11. Subject: Midterm Makeup!

    Dear Professor xxxxx,

As you may have noticed, it is flu season. As such, I have caught the flu. Due to this severe case, I was unable to attend your class and take the midterm on xx/xx/xx. I was at my doctor’s office on the aforementioned date and therefore can provide a doctor’s note. I hope you will take into consideration my serious dilemma and allow me to make up the midterm during any of your free hours. Please let me know. Thank you!

  12. Subject: Midterm Absence

    Dear Professor jkdshfksjdf,

I sincerely apologize for missing your midterm earlier today. I was very sick and can, upon request, furnish a doctor’s note. Can you email me your office hours and maybe we can discuss this in person?

    Thank you,
    Eric Landman

  13. Subject: midterm makeup

    Dear professor ABC,

I apologize wholeheartedly for the absence on the midterm exam date. I guess that’s a fate because I’ve caught the flu the day before exam from my fellow classmate. My fever peaked 102 degree Fahrenheit yesterday. I thought I couldn’t survive anyway, but here I stand and again I say, sorry for the absence last day.

Below is a doctor’s note proving this sickness. Please allow me to retake the test.

    Best wishes,

    Vincent
