My first semester of Baruch College has been good so far. I learned new things like deliverate and integration. These are difficult, but for me they are fun to found out the answer and understand those things. My math class are exceeded my expectations but I like it. if I could do my first semester all again, I would like to study or understand math things, at this semester sometime I had mistake to study to which I have to.

In the end, I think I changed since my start at Baruch College. I became resposebility and I understand English better than firsst time, maybe.  I learned many things in this semester. My experience in my first semester was a great experience.

Workshops

So I went to two workshops this semester. I went to the Cover Sheet workshop and the Transforming from College to Career workshop. Both proved to be very helpful because Im currently in search of a job. The thing that I have always hated when applying for jobs have been the Cover Letter. Honestly, I have always felt like it was such a tedius thing to do and a complete waste of time. BUT that was because I did not really know what a cover letter was. I thought it was just one little paragraph about who you were and the job you wanted. After going to the cover letter workshop I learned that it is an amazing way for employers to get a preview of your writing skills as well as a deeper understanding of the person behing the resume. Some times you cannot say everything that you want to say inside of your resume because a resume is not a place for your “personality.” This workshop showed me the importance of a cover letter and how to actually prepare a coverletter. The transition from College to Career workshop certainly reinforced and showed me some new lights of actually starting a career. It developed the idea that developing a career is not about how much money a company is willing to pay you, it is about what kind of experience being at a company can give you. Chasing high paying jobs is not the way to make yourself more desirable to another company, Having tenure at a company or various companies makes you look better as well as gives you the oportunity to negotiate for a better salery. These two workshops were very informative and makes me consider going to other workshops because everyday is a day to learn something new and create new opportunities.

First Semester?

Wow…so the first semester is already practically over and im trying to figure out where I am in this whole diaspra of, well I really don’t know. I think like in highschool, Im taking a bit longer to get into the whole “social” thing when it comes to things that are sepreate from my personal life. My first semester at baruch was intresting? engaging? life changing? It went by so fast it seems like just yesterday I was meeting in my first FRO class and now Im writing about my first semester. Maybe Im dull but Baruch hasnt really exceeded my expectations of it. Maybe because my first semseter was only part-time and I made the concious choice not to be too involved in extra curricualar activities. If i could do anything diffrent, I would most certainly be ALOT more friendly, outgoing, and involved in activities inside of the school. I havent really changed since being at baruch but I hope that, if I stick around that I grow a lot more as a individual. My first semster all in all went quite well if I say so myself.

Damn, first semester is already almost done… Its been an interesting experience to say the least. I’ve learned a lot about myself that I probably wouldn’t have learned in highschool. Throughout this first semester, ima have to say that the freedom and responsibility has been what I expected (taking into account that I commute). Also the people are more open to meeting new people and generally are just friendlier. I met a lot of good people this first semester and i am happy for that. I had hoped that what people said about not chilling as much wasn’t true but in a sense it is true and that’s a bummer. Hopefully as I continue my studies in Baruch that changes. lol If there was something I would do differently in my first semester, it would have to be not procrastinating and scheduling my classes ahead of time. If I were to have done that then I wouldn’t be so stressed out about picking my classes and I probably would’ve got a better grade in my classes. I haven’t changed much since I started my first semester, but one thing is for sure, I’ve become a little more independent and resourceful. I definitely started spending my money more wisely and I would say that I’ve become more open to the idea of being in a library for extended periods of time. All in all, this first semester has broadened my perspective on things and I hope that college in the end becomes a life changing experience for me.

Its been fun fro class, hope to keep in touch with u guys…
Keep it real~ B) lolol

Blog Post Numero Tre baby! LAST ONE! by Greg Bloom

Wow, is it already the end of the first semester? I still remember applying to colleges and in the blink of an eye my first semester at Baruch College is already over! I’ll never forget my first college semester for the rest of my life. I went from being some Long Island kid to this hot shot traveling to the greatest city in the world for school and it has changed my life.

The Good – Baruch  is located in an upbeat area full of energy and excitement. Anything can go down at anytime and it’s just a great place to be. The food has to be one of my favorite parts!! If it’s a food category, it’s in New York City. Although I have only had 2 teachers, I have loved them both. My English professor teaches with heart and he has such passion for what he does. His passion rubs off on me as a students and it honestly helps me to succeed. My math professor is a young man who sometimes has a hard time explaining curriculum, but he has no problem going over things twice or even three times. He cares about his students and wants each and everyone to succeed.

The Bad – Although there are so many spectacular things about this college it definitely has its down side. There is such a lack of school spirit it’s a damn shame. College is supposed to be a place where you can have a conversation with anyone at anytime, at least that’s what I think. When you enter the college it’s just so quite. Most kids walk alone and tend to stay away from contact with others. That is such a shame because everyone at this college is so unique I wish I could have a conversation with everyone. Don’t get me wrong, I have met a solid group of friends at Baruch, but I just wish the whole school in general had more enthusiasm. Another thing I hate is the travel. Coming from Long Island is no easy task, especially in the crappy weather. Between taking the LIRR and the walk from Penn Station, it takes nearly 4 hours to travel to and from school for one day.

Overall, Baruch College is just ok if you ask me. It has its good and it has its bad. Personally, I am going to look into other colleges to transfer to after next semester. I am looking for the college experience and Baruch simply cant give it to me. It’s a great highly ranked school, but id rather be happy somewhere else for the next 3 years then not love the college that I go to.

Blog post #3 – Kasper

My first semester at Baruch has been good so far. I have met alot of new people and have done well in my classes. The work load was as expected. I had to do a lot of reading for my anthropology class but I did learn alot. As for math class, I learned the material rather easily. Thats probably because I was always good at math. It took a couple of weeks to get used to the schedule but once I got used to it, it became easy.
If I could do this semester all over again, I would not want to change that much. I might spend some more time on my essays or spend some more time studying. But I think that things went pretty well this semester.
I think that I have changed for the better. I incorperate the things I learn in my classes in my everyday life. I think that I have become more responcible. But most importaintly, I have become comfortable going to school, meeting new people and learning new things.

Mandatory Post #3 – Sung

Its been three months since the beginning of my freshman year at Baruch College. throughout that time, I experienced so much. I made many new friends. I gradually started to do better with my time management. Although my commuting is still very tedious, I started to get used to it. So basically, my experience at Baruch College did, in fact, live up to my expectations. It helped me do better as a college student. In all my classes, I am getting As and Bs. I think my first semester at Baruch College was great. Although I am doing well in my first semester, there is one thing i would do differently if I could do it all again. I would have given myself more time to get to know the professors better. Most of my professors do not know me.

In the end, I believe that I changed since my start at Baruch College. I became much more responsible. I learned how to manage my time well and not procrastinate. My experience in my first semester was a great experience.

Study Tips– Janeth

I wasn’t able to read the study tips from the planner we were given. All my books and everything in my room got packed. Everything is in boxes. However, I have my own tips for studying that I found very useful for me. I will describe my tips instead.

I had to make up my own study tips and environment at the start of high school. Before high school, I never really studied to be truthful. I was never able to study; I was never good at it either. I just didn’t know how. Nevertheless, I learned on my own how to study when I started to really need it. In high school, I started using index cards and rewriting the notes I took during class. At first, rewriting notes wasn’t a study tip until I realized it was actually helping me understand and memorize the important point of my notes. Just rewriting word for word what you wrote allows you to review, understand, and memorize the notes. I found this little trick to be very useful. It may be stressful writing everything again, but I started to do that because my notes seemed messy the first time around. Rewriting them comes out neater and it helps you study.

The uses of index cards are also very useful right before a test or a speech. Putting all the notes into bullet points helps understand and memorize the main points than trying to know all the small details. While rewriting notes, you can make index cards are the side. Any phrase you believe is important; you write it in the index card and test yourself on it later. Another tip for studying I think is not to be surrounded by distractions. Low music or the sound of TV for me is necessary for my studying environment but for others that might be a distraction. So make sure that where you are and what surrounds you will not take your mind away from your goal, studying until you’ve understood everything and you feel ready.

Time to serve – Faraz

community service is definitely way more important than what most people think of it today. every society needs volunteerism and civic participation. societies won’t just be perfect if no one tries to make them perfect; they won’t be flawless if no one overcomes the problems and helps to build them. doing community service programs and volunteering actually helps ourselves too, it actually makes the teenagers more mature, and helps others in many different ways. in addition, it helps our country and we would actually be serving  our country, which is is our duty as citizens.

i think community service can be a very good help for any organ of the country, and the leaders or who ever is in charge of any organ may be one of those in need. therefore i think leadership is in need of community service.

there are many ways to make people want to volunteer more and do community services. some of the ways that are being used are having special college programs ask their students to have community service records in order to be eligible for those programs or to make up something have students and the youth do community service, so why not just increase those and also make other new projects to make people want to volunteer.

Study Tips JG

I think one study tip that piqued my interest is to set up a studying environment that allows you to stay focused. Often I study in chaotic environments where there is noise, or music, or something that could take away from my ability to completely focus in on the information that I hope to retain. It becomes like a battle to retain the information and I have to somehow find asylum in my thoughts and manage all of the noise. I have been wanting to form a study group in order to contract different point of views on the writing as well as the math homework and even the thought processes. I think a study group is a perfect way to be able to hone the skills necessary to succeed, gain a sense of camaraderie, and learn to see from other points of view.

Visiting the professors during their office hours is another study tip that I found useful. I think one of the best ways to learn is to bounce ideas off one another and see how the thought process differs in other people. To be able to bounce ideas off of the professor is a great idea because they should have an idea of where errors or misunderstanding can occur. You should also be able to extrapolate knowledge in a more time efficient manner because you will be afforded a smaller setting where your specific needs can be catered to. The professor will also be given the opportunity to explain the specific issues to in a more concise way which decreases the likelihood that their are any vague details or “sticking points”.
