Study Tips– Janeth

I wasn’t able to read the study tips from the planner we were given. All my books and everything in my room got packed. Everything is in boxes. However, I have my own tips for studying that I found very useful for me. I will describe my tips instead.

I had to make up my own study tips and environment at the start of high school. Before high school, I never really studied to be truthful. I was never able to study; I was never good at it either. I just didn’t know how. Nevertheless, I learned on my own how to study when I started to really need it. In high school, I started using index cards and rewriting the notes I took during class. At first, rewriting notes wasn’t a study tip until I realized it was actually helping me understand and memorize the important point of my notes. Just rewriting word for word what you wrote allows you to review, understand, and memorize the notes. I found this little trick to be very useful. It may be stressful writing everything again, but I started to do that because my notes seemed messy the first time around. Rewriting them comes out neater and it helps you study.

The uses of index cards are also very useful right before a test or a speech. Putting all the notes into bullet points helps understand and memorize the main points than trying to know all the small details. While rewriting notes, you can make index cards are the side. Any phrase you believe is important; you write it in the index card and test yourself on it later. Another tip for studying I think is not to be surrounded by distractions. Low music or the sound of TV for me is necessary for my studying environment but for others that might be a distraction. So make sure that where you are and what surrounds you will not take your mind away from your goal, studying until you’ve understood everything and you feel ready.

Time to serve – Faraz

community service is definitely way more important than what most people think of it today. every society needs volunteerism and civic participation. societies won’t just be perfect if no one tries to make them perfect; they won’t be flawless if no one overcomes the problems and helps to build them. doing community service programs and volunteering actually helps ourselves too, it actually makes the teenagers more mature, and helps others in many different ways. in addition, it helps our country and we would actually be serving  our country, which is is our duty as citizens.

i think community service can be a very good help for any organ of the country, and the leaders or who ever is in charge of any organ may be one of those in need. therefore i think leadership is in need of community service.

there are many ways to make people want to volunteer more and do community services. some of the ways that are being used are having special college programs ask their students to have community service records in order to be eligible for those programs or to make up something have students and the youth do community service, so why not just increase those and also make other new projects to make people want to volunteer.

Study Tips JG

I think one study tip that piqued my interest is to set up a studying environment that allows you to stay focused. Often I study in chaotic environments where there is noise, or music, or something that could take away from my ability to completely focus in on the information that I hope to retain. It becomes like a battle to retain the information and I have to somehow find asylum in my thoughts and manage all of the noise. I have been wanting to form a study group in order to contract different point of views on the writing as well as the math homework and even the thought processes. I think a study group is a perfect way to be able to hone the skills necessary to succeed, gain a sense of camaraderie, and learn to see from other points of view.

Visiting the professors during their office hours is another study tip that I found useful. I think one of the best ways to learn is to bounce ideas off one another and see how the thought process differs in other people. To be able to bounce ideas off of the professor is a great idea because they should have an idea of where errors or misunderstanding can occur. You should also be able to extrapolate knowledge in a more time efficient manner because you will be afforded a smaller setting where your specific needs can be catered to. The professor will also be given the opportunity to explain the specific issues to in a more concise way which decreases the likelihood that their are any vague details or “sticking points”.

TIPS EC

There was a lot of tips on the planner to help us take exams, and most of them I never recall and also forgot to use at times when it comes to exams. When it comes to taking the test and such, like the first section for the multiple choice would help some how, for example by reading the ques first and answer all the ones that you already know, just to be able to time manage the test and not have to rush the rest of the ques if we focus on one.
The second section which is the responding essay ques, which personally for me is a pain most of the time because when it comes to the part I have to start it with an intro, takes me time which comes to the tip where I should budget my time is true. Most of the time I would just handle my work when it comes to essay is first brainstorm the ideas and it helps me move quicker
both of the section about tips on exams would help and does help a lot like the first one for both is read directions which is the most important thing for every test and assignments also.

Study Tips – Kasper

I found a couple of suggestions from the student planner. The first section I found helpful was the multiple choice. I already knew some of the tips but found a couple of them very interesting. Not that I plan on needing to guess, but its good to know a couple of tips just in case.

The second section that I found helpful was the time management section. You have alot more freedom in college and that also requires more responcibility. And time management is a major responcibility. So far, it has not been challening but i am sure it will become harder.

Study Tips – Faraz

I was just reading through the tips until i saw ” When guessing, do not change answers”, then i was like “BAAM! that’s definitely for me”. Some people don’t really guess, so they wouldn’t really need to do that, but those who guess on multiple choice questions a lot, like myself (even though do i don’t do it as much anymore), would  need to have that on top of their to-do list. there have been times, or better to say most of the times, when i changed my answer when guessing, i lost a point for that question. And therefore, i have learned from my experiences and this page that i shouldn’t change my answer when i decide to guess.

another  tip that caught my eye was reading the directions before starting, which is really good and i am sure that everyone can find this one useful at some point. i usually happen to skip the directions and start doing the questions, especially the directions on essay questions. i start writing and about 5 minutes before the time ends, when I’m done writing i go back and see the directions, and notice that i have made a mistake and what i wrote wasn’t what they asked for. sometimes i do get away with it, but the rest of the times i get a bad grade.

Study Tips

Two study tips that work for me are time management and group studying.  I am admittedly an extreme procrastinator. As you can see I’m doing this homework 2hrs before it is due.  Time management is something that I really need to implement into my study habits.  I always wait until the last minute to do practically everything.  Sometimes I prevail and sometimes I do not.  I have now come to notice that if I wait until the last minute to do my work I will miss out on the chance to receive help that I most likely will need.  The hours in the day and the days in the week always seem to breeze by without me noticing and I end up doing my homework the night before.  I put it in my mind to stop procrastinating but I hardly ever put it into effect.

Group studying is also some thing else I need to implement into my study habits.  Generally, I do not study.  I’ve  always found that studying is an unknown that I do not want to discover.  But yet again,  I am finding that in college I actually do need to brush up on the things that I learned previously.  Having so much free time and letting the days pass me by, the things I learn get lost in the mix.  Studying with people who are going through some of the same things as me would probably help me out in a lot of ways.  It might also introduce me to those things called “studying habits”  that I have none of.  Finding a study group that is right for me would definatly make the college experience much easier.

With that does anyone have a study group I can join?

Two Tips – Sung

Out of the many study tips and academic strategies that were listed in the student planner, two of these tips worked best for me. One of them was time management. Over the years of my school life, I have been mismanaging my time. During my middle school years up until my junior year of high school, i played so much computer games. Now, I often think to myself, “What if I hadn’t played computer games for that time period? What if I had focused more of my time in studying? Could I have gotten a better grade and go to and Ivy League school?” Well, what’s done is done. I can’t go back to the past and change the fact that I mismanaged my time. Therefore, now that I see the full consequences of mismanaging time, I will start managing time for my benefits.

The second tip that worked best for me is when guessing in a multiple choice exams, do not change answers. I remember the times when I was in high school and taking tests. I also remember that whenever I had a multiple choice exam, and I had to guess a question or two, I would always change the answer I first chose. Then, I would get the question wrong when really, I would have gotten it right if I didn’t change the answer. So, this tip is really important to me because in the future, it might help me get a perfect score on a midterm exam or even a finals exam.

Study Tips and Academic Strategies~ Nathanael Lee

After reading through the study tips and academic strategies, I would have to say that setting goals and time management work best for me. Throughout college there will be many challenges, some of which can seem too hard to solve or deal with. Having set goals are really helpful when trying to overcome those challenges. It gives me extra motivation to try harder and do well. Not only that, but goals help me stay on track/keeps me organized with whatever i may be doing. For instance, I plan on majoring in the business field and so with that in mind, I would take courses that my major requires. Without setting goals I cannot work to my full potential because there is no reason for me to.

Throughout college, everyone will hear many times that time management is key to doing well. This is because time management is actually very crucial in college. Even though I havent fully perfected my time management skills, being able to do it here and there has made me realize that without it I would fail in college. I procrastinate a lot and once I become a full-time student, I can only imagine how hard my life will be if I dont start managing my time right now. Every time I set a specific schedule of when to do what, I end up with a lot of “free” free time. What I mean by that is that I dont have to worry about anything during that time because I wouldve finished all the things that were needed to be done. With these two strategies in play, I plan on making my college life very educational and fun.

Time to Serve EC

1. What is the value and importance of engaging in community service?
It is important for everyone in a community to participate in community service because it’s good for the society and helps others that are in need. Also it helps make the place a better place which shows how important everything around us matters and that we should be aware and care for it

2. What are your thoughts on the relationship between leadership community service projects?
When it comes to leadership for community service it is important, without leadership it would be difficult and unorganized; mostly for if it’s a big project for the community

3. How can we boost volunteerism and civic participation on campus?
Personally, I think to boost up volunteerism and civic participation or any activities on the campus, mostly if you can go with a friend to come along or maybe need to post up flyers and such, so it can be aware to others and that it can help alot of people, also make themselves feel better and gain new experience.
