Who Do You Think You Are?

Let’s see, who is Janessa Hernandez? I think I am a really cool, down to earth person. I am not going to lie, I am shy at first but once I get the feel of the kind of person you are, then i’ll show you the person I am and I won’t be shy anymore. I think I’m a good listener and willing to give a helping hand. Some of my concerns about my freshman year at Baruch would be if I can handle the workload, if I’m going to like the school, and if the transition from high school to college going to be an easy one. Handling the workload is a concern because it is completely different from what I am used to. The courses I take are more challenging and I’m not used to getting as much work. I wonder if the methods i used in high school are going to work now. I know one that won’t, procrastination. I am also concerned if I’m going to like Baruch College because I had the mindset all throughout high school that I was going to dorm. Going to a commuter school has dampened my outlook on my freshman year in college but I’m trying to get the most out of it. Im worried that if I don’t like the school, its going to effect my grades. But once I get passed the non-dorming concept, I will like the school a lot more. My last concern would be if the transition from high school to college is going to be an easy one. Im a person that stresses a lot over situations so if it is a rough transition for me, my reaction will definitely show. I hope it will be an easy transition that way my freshman year won’t be as hard. My Baruch College experience will be different from my high school experience in that I am going to have less time for myself. I was able to cruise through high school by getting a lot of work I didn’t have to spend so much time on. But now, the homework that I get require a lot of time and effort to be put into; if not, I will get a poor grade. That being said, I won’t have as much leisure time as a I did in high school. I think my first year at college will change me because I will be a lot more independent. High school students are very sheltered compared to college students that have to get stuff done on their own. With this new form of independence, I will easily transform into the adult that I will soon become.

Fro monologue #1

Who do you think I am? Well, to tell you the truth i don’t know. I can tell you a little bit about my self though. I am a freshman at Baruch college and my main goal is to be a successful person in life. I am from a Hispanic background and i wasn’t born in the United States, but i don’t think i would never go back to live in my country of origin. I also like to eat all different types of food, and for some reason i really like sneakers… Moving on, i have some concerns about Baruch College. My main concerns are that i know that college life is completely different from high school, but i wonder how hard i have to change my work habits to make sure i graduate and do well in all my classes. Another concern i have is that as of right now, i am not really sure on exactly what i want to major in, so im still undecisive on what my major at Baruch College is going to be. My last concern is that i know i need extra curricular activities during my time at Baruch, but my main concern about this is that since i don’t really know what i want to major in, i am not that sure into what clubs to look into and what clubs would be best for me.  I think there are a couple of differences between High school life and College life,  i believe that it manly involves on the amount of effort and dedication that one has to put into to be a good student. Also, the ways professors are is very different. An example of this is that back in high school my teachers would constantly remind me of when work is due, and when i didn’t do it on time i would manage to extend my time limit to do it, but iknow for a fact that in college the teachers don’t care about me at all, if i go to class or not, or even if i get my my work done. College life is something that as of right now im still adjusting and getting used to, but i have confidence that i am going to manage to do well in all my classes and my four years at Baruch. I think that my first year at Baruch college is going to change me a lot, and this is because its during this first year that im going to learn a lot about the college and also meet people on a environment that i was never in.

Who do I think I am. Well, that’s easy, I am that cute half african american/irish kid that has a good heart. Just kidding; I am more of that calm kid that like’s to freestyle and play guitar on his free time. Nope, that’s not right ether. I am just all of these things combined and a little bit more. I really only think I am me. And since I really can’t define accurately what being me is,  given you a little description about myself is probably the bets way to define me. I am the kid who probably is always quiet at first, but when you get to know me, you will learn that I am a lot of fun and I can dance to spanish music really well. I am also that same kid who like’s to get involved  a lot in school activities and events. The most important thing about me though is that I like being the underdog because, I like fighting to prove people wrong. All these  elements basically make up who I am.  And since I have all these things to offer,  I really can’t wait to get involved at Baruch. The only thing that has been  concerning me though, is the assessment test we have to take again in my math. I know most of the professor’s like to think that the only reason why I am a part time student who needs to take the math assessment again, is because they think I slacked off in high school. Well, thats not true. The main reason why I am stuck in this mess is mainly because I am not good at math and I did not take assessment as serious as I should have. I really went in there thinking with a mind set, that all I have to do is just take it. Sadly since I had that mind set in placed, I scored terribly low on the exam. And now I am on a desktop writing about it. Right now, that’s all I am really concerned about moving forward in college. Luckily I am not letting going to let discourage me.  As I said before, I like being the underdog. I love the feeling of proving the people who said you can’t do something wrong. It’s a real good feeling to have and I know that I will become a full time student with the rest of my block.  Sorry I talk a lot though, but to end things off, I guess I am just going to say that college is only going to change me in one way. And that is that it’s going to make me more of an adult at the end of it.

Library

Last Thursday I was taken on an informative tour of the library. It was absolutely amazing and I loved every minute of it. Aiman was a spectacular guide and taught me so much information. I would definitely say the tour was efficacious in helping me pick out books. <33333333333333

Library Tour

Last Thursday, my freshman seminar class had a quick tour of the schools library and I was impressed.  Even though I had used the library prior to the tour for an English paper, I was still amazed at all the resources available to us. Aiman our peer mentor was very informative in the short amount of time we had to visit.  The library is huge and at the same time quiet, it is a great environment to study in especially around the time of midterms and finals.  I’ll definitely take advantage at all the helpful resources for future projects and assignments.
