what do i think community service is?.
I think community service is how people help others in their community, some people might do it because it feels good to help others. Other people do community service instead of going to jail, as part of their punishment. I know people do not get paid to do community service, it is a volunteer job. I always think of helping senior citizens or other people in need when i think of community service. I also think of convicts smashing rocks or cleaning the highway. I think doing community service may look good on job applications, but i am not sure about that.
Have i ever done any community service?
I have never done any community service, i am totally new to it, but i do have a general idea of what community service is, and i know what to expect.
I know i am going to be doing it soon with my class in order to pass. I would like to volunteer for something fun, or at least something i find interesting, but for now i am just going to do whatever the class sings me up for because it is a requirement to pass the class.

I like doing community service because I like the feeling of helping someone with a job or anything that they need help with. Im in a program in my neighboorhood call the Frat Boyz of Rochdale and we do community service all the time. we do things such as handing out flyers, unloading trucks, and also shoveling snow. Last night I had to hand out flyers to each door in my building, I wasn’t really in the mood but i know if i needed help my mentor would help me out. Another experience I had doing community service is when i was shoveling peoples drive ways and parking spots in my neighborhood, for three days i was going out and assisting people with shoveling out areas in which they needed to be shoveled out. I like community service because it gives me a chance to help out everyone in my community and give back. Sometimes the community service that you do may not be the most fun or entertaining but in the end of everything you are doing something good. I don’t always feel like handing out flyers or unloading boxes because it gets tiring after awhile but I always work through it and handle business.

I think community service is when you take the time out of your day and help the community out for free. Its a chance to feel good and proud of your self. It doesn’t even have to be official, it can be helping out old people when they need help. It could be helping out a cause or donating to a cause. In highschool i really never did any community service. But I am very eager to do it this year. I think it could help me change and who knows it could inspire me to do more in the future.

Community service is when you go out of your way to do a good deed. It’s when you help those who are in need whether you know them personally or not. It is especially important to teach kids from a young age about how they can do community service as well. Teaching kids from a young age is important because it shows them how to be responsible and it shows them how to treat others who may not have been afforded the same life style that most families receive with dignity and respect as well. When I was in the 7th grade my school organized a trip for us to help a charitable organization. We helped by putting together and delivering packages of food to those less fortunate then our selves’ right before the holiday season. In order to help lesson the burden from those families that may not have been able to enjoy the holiday season to their fullest due to financial constraints. After that trip it felt as though my eyes were opened for the first time because I never got to see first hand how difficult things can be for those who can not afford to buy food on a regular basis. Since then I have been much more open to helping others and treating others with the dignity and respect that they deserve.

Community Service is finding a way to take time out of your daily life to help someone else.  It doesn’t have to be anything sufficient, but just helping an old lady carry her groceries is an act of community service.  I enjoy doing community service because it is a way for me to give back to my community for all it has done for me.  When I was in 7th grade, my best friend and I organized a used toy and book drive and all the proceeds were sent through the Red Cross to victims of Hurricane Katrina.  This hurricane had a large affect on me and my friend because we knew it was something that destroyed the lives of many.  We got people to donate their old toys and books, and by selling them for only a dollar or more we were able to raise over $700.  A local bank in Staten Island heard about what we were doing and offered to match the amount that we made.  Two 7th graders were able to contribute over $1400 to the Huricane Katrina fund at the American Red Cross.  I am very proud of our accomplishments because community service should be an important part of everyone’s life.

Community service is unpaid work intended to be of social use. Community service often benefits the general public or its institutions such as schools or hospitals.  Often times community service is mandatory for graduation; such as in my high school. My school required every student to commit to volunteer work in order to graduate.  I chose to do my community service at the nearby New York Aquarium. There were over 50 kids in my group who chose to their community service hours at this institution. The volunteers were required to learn as much as they can about a certain animal so they can present their knowledge to the visitors. I chose my animal to be the Sea Otter. The Sea Otter, in my opinion, is one of the cutest animals in the whole aquarium. But don’t let their looks fool you. The Sea Otter has some of the most powerful jaws in the world. I learned from observing them all day that they can take a clam and crush it with their jaws with no effort at all. Unfortunately my work was not as fun as I thought it would be; the Sea Otter, like most of us, is extremely lazy. My Sea Otter would come out once a day for its swim and go back into his cave for the rest of the day. Ultimately this was a fun experience.

To me community service is when you volunteer and donating your time to help people in the community whether is picking up garbage in public parks to make the environment look better, paint park benches, helped people in the nursing homes, give help and care to kids, or do some communitarian work in the hospital. This is a great way to give back to our community without getting paid. I think community service also makes you a better person. It shows people that you care and wanted to help them. I think if everybody does community service and help people often, the world would be a lot better and there will be more people caring one another. I am looking forward to do community service in my fro class even though I only done it once. I remembered one time we had a snow storm and I shoved my neighbors’ houses and around my area without getting paid. I felt good about it at the end. It shows that I cared about people. I wonder where are we going to go and do on community service and I hope is soon.

Community service is a way to give back to your community. Community service can be a variety of things from helping out with programs at your public library to going to help out at a soup kitchen. But at the end community service is giving back to your community without expecting anything in return. I myself have done community service for my own purpose and for  school. I have done book buddies and art buddies at my public library to help entertain little kid, but for my school  I needed to do at least three hours worth of community service to be able to graduate.  I helped out at this small farm fair by handing out tickets and stamping people. Which was a lot of fun. Community service can be a way of feeling good about yourself because you either have helped someone in need or have helped make an event work out as planned. I can also say that doing community service is a good quality one can have because one is doing something without expecting anything in return. Doing community service is very important for everyone to do because one should always want to give back to their community even if it’s just doing something little. Giving back is always a good thing.

I believe that community service is a great way to give back to the people in our community who need help more then us. It’s the best way to help because it is something that has to do with the heart and doesn’t have anything to do with the money or a paycheck. I have done community service at a food bank where I helped collect cans of food and other non-perishables that people who were less fortunate could use to fill their stomachs on those long and cold winter nights. I have also done political community service for Anthony Weiner; this past year when he was running for office. Even though the outcome was him winning, followed by a huge public scandal the experience was a great one. I got to mail out campaign flyers, and make calls to get votes, and I even got to meet Anthony Weiner when he came to his head office. I learned how hard it is to get people to listen with the phone calls because many people hung up or didn’t care enough to listen; but I tried and stayed persistent with the phone calls and helped him get some votes that he didn’t have. I hope that where ever we go for community service, it is fun and beneficial for the community.

To me community service is when you donate your time to a community doing a specific project.  It doesn’t have to be your own but any community that is in need.  You are not paid of your services, you are volunteering your time to a certain cause. Community Service varies in the things you can do for a community, or even an organization like a church or daycare.  I am reallylooking forward to doing community service in my FRO class,  even though I’ve done quite a lot of community service on my own.  For the past few years I’ve volunteered at the Fresh Air Fund, and when I would go down to North Carolina in the summer, I would volunteer there at the Food Pantry (passing out food for the needy) and help my grandma do meals-on-wheels, going from house to house giving the elderly groceries they couldn’t go out and get themselves.  I love to volunteer and I really love when people smile at me because it tells me that they appreciate that someone cares. I know if I were in their situation, the best feeling would be that someone cares.  I’m very excited to start community service with my class:).
