My Poem and a Playlist list

Hey, how’s it going? Alright, so for my list of songs I went with two genres, rap and r&b. I grew up with these two types of music and everyone growing up around me was the same way so I never really got into other genres like rock, until recently. That’s not to say I’m not open to other genres,-that goes for you too country- I just haven’t heard much music from a lot of them. Anyway, these songs below are really special to me. They help me feel relaxed and focused while writing a paper the night before it’s due. But they are also special in more ways than one. However, it would take >500 words to tell you everything so I’ll tell you one of the bigger reasons: I feel nostalgic when I hear them; listening to these people melodiously speaking on a mic makes me remember way back to when I first heard the song; how I felt listening to “superstar” for the first time in middle school on someone’s myspace page. That’s really important for me because I see myself as someone who tries to look back to the past often. The reason being that I grew up with a huge cast of family members who have since just gradually drifted apart; I have a lot of great memories with them, most of which are so simple that it’s just me in the family van, on our way to six flags, watching all of the green fields go by along a highway. Anyway, they are not in any special order; I just organized them by artists:
1. Resistance-Drake
2.Club Paradise-Drake

3. Lose Yourself-Eminem
4. Forever Young- Jay Z
5. PDA-John Legend
6. Superstar-Lupe Fiasco

7. The Morning- The Weeknd
Alright so that’s about it for the songs, I’m feeling too nostalgic. But since I have space left for 3 songs, I’ll fill it with a 3-line haiku instead to help you understand who I think I am.

Haiku:
I am an old New Yorker
I’ve been here too long

Let”s leave and come back later

My Jingles

Hey guys, so when it comes to music I don’t stick to a genre just because
I like giving everything a chance 🙂 Also I went through a lot of changes
I’m sure we’ve all gone through that weird elementary school days with the best of the 90s-early 2000s
spice girls, boys to men, n’sync, britney spears, christina aguilera…..radio disney haha
and then the whole junior highschool emo phase with the my chemical romance, him, afi, four year strong, sense fail, slipknot, korn, artreyu…you get the deal.
Anyway so that was me, but this is me now.

Here’s my little arrangement of songs that get me through the long subway rides to school and back home.

1. Adele
(actually I listen to both of her albums so all the way through so I can’t really name one specific song.)

2. Nat King Cole
Darling Je Vous Aime Beaucoup

3. Chet Baker
Time after Time

4. Billy Holiday
You go to my head

5. Jessie J
Who you are

6. Sara Bareilles
Sitting on the dock of the bay (original by Otis Redding)

7. The Pierces
Three wishes

8. Sia
Death by chocolate

9. Weezer
Say it ain’t so

10. Sublime
Mary

well thats it.
enjoy

(was that anticlimactic?)

Songs of My Life

I would like to clarify one thing right off of the bat. Despite the fact that I am from Tennessee, I do not listen to country at all. It drives me insane that people automatically assume that along with the many other stereotypes.

My favorite genre would be rock, but more specifically, I mainly listen to post-hardcore. There are so many different types of styles within rock music that I feel that it is necessary to include my preference. I actually worked with a music venue in Nashville called Rocketown. Although they occasionally have different types of artists perform, Rocketown is mainly catered to rock music. Because I was apart of the Rocketown team, I saw a lot of bands and was introduced to many local bands. This list was both easy and difficult to compile. Some of these songs include lyrics that relate to me completely, but some of the songs fit my personality by the actual music rather than the lyrics.

I decided to just do a video playlist through YouTube. Some of the songs have videos, while some just have the lyrics. 🙂

1. Saviour by Lights.

2. Zombie by The Pretty Reckless

3. Bitch by Plasticines

4. Toes by Lights

5. All Signs Point to Lauderdale by A Day To Remember

6. Mr. Owl Ate My Metal Worm by D.R.U.G.S

7. A For Andrew by Attack Attack!

8. Miss Nothing by The Pretty Reckless

9. Roads That Don’t End and Views That Never Cease by We Came As Romans

10. Sweetest Kill by Broken Social Scene

“The Playlist”

These songs does not represent me as a whole but it does represent my personality where I am a calm person that enjoys up tempo music. I chose these songs because I am able to express my feelings through these songs and it has amazing background music that gives off a refreshing feeling. Most of the songs in the list are in different genres because I don’t listen to a specific genre as I listen to what sounds the best to me. I listen to pretty much every kind of music and genre as long as I like it. However, I am not really a fan of rap and hardcore rock music.  If you have time, check out the music video for some of these songs because it is awesome and it matches the lyrics perfectly. Hope you enjoy!

“Take Me As I Am”

My Playlist

These songs are a few of my favorite. They do not necessarily help describe who I am, but more of what I believe in and chase after in life. To me, the most important thing in life is that you try. Things will always get difficult along the way, but it doesn’t mean that you can go without putting up a fight for what you want. I always stop to ask myself, “Why stop now when you’ve made it this far?”. I believe that life doesn’t come easy and to get to where you want to be, you have to work for it. Your efforts reflect who you are, who you become, and how far you’ve made it from who you used to be. From my experiences, I have come to realize that it is important to really differentiate who you want in your life from those who are insignificant. There will always be people who want to bring you down, but there are also friends who bring out who you truly are. I may not be the kind of person who will want to open up to you, because I’ve learned that it’s okay to keep certain things to yourself. I’m not bitter, if you actually knew who I was you’d know I can be overly amused by the smallest things, plainly blunt when I want to be, or just me.

My Songs.

1. “Mr Brightside” – The Killers
2. “Dirty Paws” – Of Monsters And Men
3. “Don’t Kick The Chair” – Dia Frampton
4. “Dare You To Move” – Switchfoot
5. “The A Team” -Ed Sheeran
6. “Remember The Name” – Fort Minor
7. “Your Love Is A Song” – Switchfoot
8. “Volcano” – Damien Rice
9. “Skinny Love” – Birdy
10. “I Will Follow You Into The Dark” – Death Cab For Cutie

I believe that these songs describe who I am in a way, because well first of all some of these songs are my favorites. Others I added on here because the lyrics were interesting to me and described the way the world is around us. If you listened to the playlist, I think it would be easy to tell what I like to listen to. It does change from time to time though, depending on how I am feeling on a certain day. Most of these songs are not what you would consider upbeat songs. I guess I just like to listen to slower songs; I like to focus on the lyrics in a song more than the actual music sometimes. And most of the songs in this playlist do have some type of underlying message to them, which is what I like. Enjoy. :{D

My 10 Songs

My Playlist

My playlist:

1. “Young Blood” – The Naked and Famous
2. “Electric Feel” – MGMT
3. “Million Dollars” – Big Sean
4. “Loca People” – Sak Noel
5. “I’m Your Daddy” – Weezer
6. “Love in Brasil” – Andreea Banica
7. “Soul Meets Body” – Death Cab for Cutie
8. “Cemetery Gates” – Metallica (played every Halloween, my favorite holiday)
9. “Alors on Danse” – Stromae
10. “Shove It” – Santogold

Finding songs that I think represent myself was actually pretty difficult. I listen to a lot of different types of music, and what I listen to all depends on what mood I’m in. The songs above are just a few of the many songs that I think represent my mindset, sense of humor, interests, and personality. Certain songs on this list I heard in other countries or were produced in other countries, and they’re on this list because I love traveling and listening to foreign music. A lot of the songs on my list are upbeat because I consider myself someone who doesn’t like sitting still. My favorite types of music would have to be anything I can dance to, but I do have days when all I want to do is listen to classic rock. I listen to rap as well but I’m pretty picky when it comes to that genre. #3 is an example of one of the few contemporary rap songs I like because I think this represents some of my bigger goals. As you can see, I enjoy pretty much all types of music, apart from Country.. I really don’t like Country (sorry, Tennessee:)).

me

my music

hi,

My list of music:

1. “Lose Yourself” by Eminem

2. “Free Bird” by Lynrd Skynrd

3. “The Bitch is Back” by Elton John

4. “Pursuit of Happiness” by Kid Cudi

5. “Girl, You’ll Be A Woman Soon” by Urge Overkill

6. “November Rain” by Guns N’ Roses

7. “People Are Strange” by The Doors

8. “Get Up, Stand Up” by Bob Marley

9. “Strobe” by Deadmau5

10. “Home By the Sea” by Genesis

I like mostly Classic Rock but I also like a good deal of other types of music other than Jazz and Country. These songs relate to me not only because they are all songs or entire bands that for a long time I couldn’t stop listening to, but also because the messages in these songs are similar to my personality. Some of these songs are things I think people in general along with myself should strive to achieve at least part of the time.
