Lauren’s Playlist! (I can’t believe I’m doing this…)

http://grooveshark.com/#!/playlist/Baruch+Playlist/77712574

Be prepared for a new musical experience guys.

1. Who You Are- Ed Sheeran (Jessie J cover)

This song helped me with my insecurity. I also love the original by Jessie J but as amazing as her voice is, my undying love for Ed Sheeran and the moving piano and guitar in the beginning makes my list. The inspiring lyrics, “Don’t lose who you are/ In the blur of the stars/Seeing is deceiving/Dreaming is believing/Its okay not to be okay/ helped me get through a lot of problems.

2. Wotless- Kes the Band

AND I FEEEEEEL LIKE! I JUST WIN A MILLION DOLLAS!!

WOOHOO! Let’s enter the world of soca! Better get used to it. There’s gonna be alot of it on here. This song took the Caribbean by storm last year. There isn’t really a dictionary definition of the word “wotless” but the general meaning is “once my song is my playing and the music is nice, you can’t tell me anything. I’ll do whatever the hell I want, dance with who the hell I want and drink what the hell I want. I can’t be bothered by anything.” This song pretty much describes my life and most party animals.

3. You Need Me, I Don’t Need You- Ed Sheeran

Well this is pretty self explanatory. You need me, I don’t need you. I’ve been known to do things on my own. I hate asking for help. Its one of my many faults. But hey we all have them. Oh and the live version of this song on SBTV will probably one of the most incredible things you will witness in your life. But I’m a big fan of him so I’m probably a bit biased.

4. Coming Over- Kes the Band

Yay more soca! Kes the Band are actually really incredible. They’ve brought a whole new sound to soca music. All these new elements have made them popular worldwide. Even in Japan!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-CP5AqyPis This song in particular is about foreigners who visit the island of Trinidad during its carnival season and fall in love with the music, people, and culture and they make a promise to return to the island. I have made a vow that I will go to Trinidad’s Carnival at least once in my life. My family is form Guyana and we have our own carnival, Mashramani, but it isn’t as well known as Trinidad’s own.

5. Jeux Interdis (Spanish Romance)-Miloš Karadaglić

This song is simple, beautiful and elegant. A lot like me! 😛 I’m not that elegant, but I can aspire to be! It’s my dream to learn how to play this song on the guitar. I’m nearly there though! Milos is and incredible guitarist.

6. You Don’t Know (For Fuck’s Sake) – Yelawolf Feat. Ed Sheeran

The very first line is “Living the life a student I begin on a high” so when I first heard it I was all “Hey! I’m a student getting a higher education!” and then it proceeds to almost accurately described for my college life, except I don’t rap. Or beatbox. I’m terrible at beatboxing. Its pretty bad. Painfully bad. Actually, Ed is providing beat for this track using only his mouth, guitar, and a loop pedal! Then Yelawolf comes on the track, giving all these philosophical and things-that-make-you-go-hmm and i-can-relate-to-that bars. I just love this song. The EP this song is on (The Slumdog bridge) is also great. Plus, I wanted a song with a curse word in the title because I tend to curse a lot. 🙂

7. Vibes Cyah Done- Machel Montano

Translation: You can’t stop the vibes! The music is a part of me! Pretty accurate description of my life. Plus, Machel Monatano is one of my favorite artists. In one of my seven fantasy universes he and I are married with several children who start a band of their own, much like Machel did. Machel came onto the soca music scene at NINE YEARS OLD. His first single was aptly named “Too Young To Soca”. He’s been doing this for nearly 30 years. His style is unique and entertaining and that is why he is THE KING OF SOCA. ilovehimilovehimilovehimilovehim.

8. I Am Soca- Kerwin Du Bois Feat Patrice Roberts

You guys shouldn’t be surprised by this considering on how much I’ve been going on about   it for most of this playlist. Self explanatory. I love it. I live it. I am the rudeness in your face/ I am the rhythm in your waist/ I am soca. Is there really anything else to say?

9. I Love College- Asher Roth

I think you guys can figure this one out. College life has been pretty good to me so far. The only negative is all the blasted money I have to spend.

10. I’m Yours Remix- Jason Mraz Feat. Jah Cure and Lil Wayne

I want a love like this. Jason Mraz is an incredible artist and I was ELATED when I heard this remix which featured another one of my favorite artists…no, not you Lil Wayne.. JAH CURE! Jah cure is a reggae artist who I adore! He sings conscious music and beautiful love songs. His real name is atrocious though. Siccature Alcock. Bleck. His verse truly makes the song for me. I don’t need no time/And I don’t need no reason/
I’m yours/ Whenever whenever whenever I’ll be there through every season. LOVE. HIM.

Anyway, that’s about it guys! This took a lot longer than I thought it would. It was also kind of fun. Wasn’t nearly as painful as i thought it would be. I hope you got an idea of who I am with this playlist. I look forward to hearing what you guys are into and I hope you guys check out what I listen to as well. Peace out everybody!
