First Semester at Baruch

This is a painting by one of my favorite paintings by one of my favorte artists, Pablo Picasso. This painting is called Guernica. It was created in response to the bombing of Guernica, a village in Spain. It shows the struggles and tragedies of war, and the suffering that many people face because of the war.

Now I’m not saying my time at Baruch has been like a war. I’ve actually enjoyed it very much so far. However, looking at the painting, there are so many different things going on and so much to focus on. That’s why I feel this describes my time at Baruch so far. There are so many different types of people with different beliefs, so many clubs/organizations, so much work to do, and there is always something happening in school. I went to a really small school my whole life, especially high school, but this ks the exact opposite. I always have something going on, either homework or a test to study for, or a club I wanna check out, or just something happenning in the city near school. That’s really why I like the school so far, there’s so much more to do, so much more going on, and it’s just so much bigger than anything I’ve ever been a part of. I feel that looking at my time in school so far is the same as looking at Guernica because there is just so much going on, and so many specific things to focus on.

Blog Post #3

So a couple weeks ago we went to this classroom for one of our workshops. I’ll be honest, I didn’t pay attention in the beginning and didn’t really want to be there. However, I have to say that it actually wasn’t that bad. I learned a lot, definitley more than I expected. When I search up for things online I usually just click on the top few results, and just take the information I need from there. I always thought the order that articles appear in when you search something on facebook is based on importance or accuracy that someone decided on. I always believed that the top results were accurate and that I could just believe what I read from there and use those articles as my sources. I also never realized that videos that seem so real can actually be made-up, just like that video we saw about that woman who can’t move normally. They kept on saying that doctors said that she’ll never walk and all that, but they never actually said the names of any doctors, or brought in any doctors faces. I’m glad that I did end up paying attention to this presentation because I now know not to trust everything I see online, and I now know how to decide whether or not a source is trustworthy and probably accurate.

Jacob Gauptman

Jacob’s Monologue

A player gets traded for another player. A different player gets sent down to the minors for a couple in favor of another player being called up. A free agent is offered a 4 year-$24 million deal from a certain team. A coach is fired, another one is hired. The trade deadline comes and goes, but no moves are made even though the team is right in the middle of the playoff chase. Who makes all these moves, all these decisions? Well yes, the owner has the final say of approval or disapproval, but ultimately is the general manager that makes all these moves, comes up with creative trades to better the team, and finds a coach to lead the team. This is what I want to do when I’m older.

Ever since I was a little kid, maybe 5 or 6 years old, I’ve been in love with sports. Not just a couple, but many of them. Nearly my entire life I’ve been following football, soccer, hockey, basketball, tennis, baseball. I’ve even been following a couple of college sports, college basketball and college football. With all this love that I have for sports, I’ve always wondered what if I could control a team. What if I could be the one making those decisions of who to trade, who to sign, and who to fire. I think it would be the perfect job for me, and I think I’d do very well. I’m always keeping up with as many players as I possibly can in each sport, including the up and coming youngsters that each gm must pay attention to. I’m always looking around the leagues to see what moves my favorite team could make, and am always looking to see if the salary and contracts could match up.

I do plan on pursuing this dream of mine, but what sport would I go after the hardest to get in to? Well take out tennis because there’s no general manger there and take out soccer because the coach really makes the final decisions on those things. That leaves football, hockey, basketball, and baseball that I would go after. As I said earlier though, I’m always keeping up with the up and coming players and I’m always paying attention to young players. I also love paying attention to the minor leagues and how the top prospects are performing there. I’d definitely love to deal with prospects, and if I was gm of a rebuilding team, try to stack up as many top prospects as I can.  That’s why I’d ultimately love to be the general manager of a hockey team in the NHL or a baseball team in the MLB. Those two sports, those two leagues, both have a big emphasis on prospects and have quite a few minor teams. I feel that because of that, a general manager in those sports would have the most decisions to make and the most players to worry about, but also the most options if a move was to be made.

As I have stated, I’d love to become gm of a professional team, mainly either in the MLB or NHL, but I’d be happy in the NFL or NBA as well. I’m going to keep studying and working hard in hopes of achieving my goal, but for now I’ll just continue to play fantasy sports on Yahoo! and ESPN.

This is just basically a list of my favorite songs from a few different genres. I like a lot of different types of music so I just mixed it together for this.

Well, apparently this needs to be 500 words as well so I’ll just go a bit into detail of why each of these songs are here.

Mockingbird-This is one of the first songs that really got me into Eminem(who has been my favorite artist for many years) at a young age, and this is still one of my favorite songs by him. I love how he raps about things that come from his heart and this song is a perfect example.

Beautiful-This is one of Eminem’s newer songs and also my favorite from his album “Relapse”. This song also comes from his heart and it really gets to me when I listen to it.

I’m Not Over-Though it is one of the very few rock songs I like, it is one of my favorite songs. I first heard it in the movie “What Happens in Vegas” and decided to search it up because it sounded like a really good song. I was right, it really is a great song, and I can liten to it anytime, no matter what mood I’m in.

You Belong With Me-Taylor Swift is my 2nd favorite artist behind Eminem, and this is perhaps my favorite song by her. It’s such a fun and catchy song, and the music video is even better. Taylor Swift in general, but this song being one of the main ones, always gets me in a better mood if I’m feeling upset.

Picture To Burn-I’m not sure if this is even in my top 5 Taylor Swift songs list, but I chose this because I still really like this song, and this song is what got me into listening to Taylor Swift. I love how she sings from the heart as well, like Eminem.

Cruel To Be Kind-I like 70’s songs. I actually like 70’s songs alot. This is definetley one of my favorites from the 70’s. It’s a great song that’s really fun to listen to, and could really get me energized when I’m about to do something important.

Copacabana-Has anyone not heard this song?? I really don’t know how anyone could say no. This is also one of my favorites from the 70’s, but this song is one of the classic songs in history. Go ask random people on the street, and I gaurantee many different people of many different ethnicities, ages, and races will tell you they have heard and even like this song.

She Will Be Loved-Perhaps one of my favorite songs ever. Such a beautiful song that I could listen to 100 times a day, and still not be sick of it. I personally think this is one of the best songs of our time, and I love Maroon 5 for it.

Heartless-Another one of my favorite songs. A nice, catchy song that I really feel like I can relate to sometimes. My favorite song by Kanye, and I wish he would come out with more songs that affect me like this

1985-Like I said, I don’t like many rock songs, but I love this song. Loud, fun, catchy song that I’ve sang by heart hundreds of times.
