Dominique’s playlist.

1. Murder she wrote – Chaka Demus & Pliers
2. Your song – Elton John
3. Ordinary People – John Legend
4. Soundtrack to my life – Kid Cudi
5. That thing – Lauryn Hill
6. Whatever Happens – Michael Jackson
7. Lost One – Jay Z
8. Paris, Tokyo – Lupe Fiasco
9. Lights Please – J.Cole
10. Try Again – Aaliyah

I chose to do the playlist because artists have a certain way of putting common feelings and attitudes in to words that are sometimes difficult to find. The songs i selected each represent things i feel strongly about and different facets of my personality and beliefs. The first song i selected was “Murder she wrote” by Chaka Demus & Pliers. The obvious reason I chose this was because of my Jamaican heritage and this songs popularity in my country, but in addition to that this song conveys the fact that a person can come off a certain way and in fact have a personality that in no way reflects those looks. For example, in my case, I may come across as an unapproachable person because of my facial expressions and perceived attitude, but I am in fact very friendly just not very outgoing. The next song is one of my favorite songs of all time, “Your Song”. Most people today are self-centered and don’t take the time out to appreciate the beautiful people and things around them everyday. This song by Elton John helps me to realize the beauty that things posses..especially music itself. “Ordinary people” by John Legend is a song that should remind everyone that though it is good to have ambitions, we are all human and will make mistakes. That fact shouldnt bring us down, but help us to set reasonable goals and reach them. “Soundtrack to my life” by Kid Cudi is something i can relate to because of all the struggles he was going through that no one knew about, including his family. Though he was a child, he was battling the overwhelming emotions that accompany broken homes and a lack of emotional support. Another song that i find represents something important is “That thing” by Lauryn Hill. Many youths today ruin their lives inn the pursuit of the temporary hapiness they can get from sex. I’ve seen kids have to grow up too fast because of this and I’m grateful that my mother instilled certain values in me early. Michael Jackson is probably the greatest musician of all times and this song is extremely beautiful. It talks about always having that one person who is there to support you no matter what the situation or dilemma. It reminds me of the love and support my mother has given me and how she assured me no matter what she’ll always be my best friend and have my best interests at heart. The next song on my playlist is “Lost One” by Jay-Z it brings the thought of my grandmother tp mind. I lost her way too early and the pain and sense of loss Jay Z radiates in the song is what i felt when it happened and whenever i think about it. The bright side is that the pain that I’ve experienced helps me grow as a person and learn to cope with daily obstacles. “Paris, Tokyo” is a song that I feel promotes a spirit of hope and versatility which in effect will bring happiness..something I strive to have even when it is easier to be sad. “Lights Please” by J. Cole reflects the awareness I have for the troubles being ignored in today’s society. Despite these things, people are always more concerned with what they can do now to have fun and not how to improve their living by improving their environment and even those who are are side tracked by those who are apathetic. The final song on my playlist is “Try Again” by Aaliyah. I chose this song for obvious reasons. It helps me to remember that not everything in life will come naturally or easily but it doesnt ever hurt to try again. Music has a way of capturing the essential things in life and putting them to a catchy beat so that some may miss the importance of what is being said..hopefully this gave a little glimpse of what these songs actually stand for.

Crystle’s Playlist

Here’s a link to my playlist:

http://grooveshark.com/playlist/Crystle+s+Playlist/77742423

Welp, here’s some songs..

  1. Home by Phillip Phillips – Home is across the entire country for me. Traveling from coast to coast is actually a lot scarier than I seem to pretend it isn’t, especially for an eighteen year old fresh out of college. I was a bit nervous thinking of how everything will be different and how alone I might feel. This is a big city, and I’m a little girl from California. The thing is, I always need to remember that everything is going to be ok. No matter how alone I might feel, I need to realize that there are always people here to help and support me. This big city is now my new home.
  2. Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride by Mark Keali’i Ho’omalu – This song, from Lilo and Stitch, reminds me so much of Disneyland, my favorite place on Earth. I honestly have an undying love of Disney. Since May of last year, I have gone to Disneyland more than ten times. Some people would say that I’m obsessed. I completely agree. I love Disneyland and I get homesick of not being there.
  3. Slow Down by Clyde Carson – Strangely enough, this song remind of home. By home, I mean “the Bay”. We pretty much had our own style of music, that we even had our own dances, including this song. I know it may be a bit inappropriate, but this song really does remind me of what we used to listen to and how our parties and dances were like.
  4. Wake Me Up Before You Go Go by Wham! – Zoolander, my favorite movie next to Tangled, has this song in it. It always brings a smile to my face and I think of the scene that the song plays to because it is ridiculously funny. ORANGE MOCHA FRAPPUCINO!
  5. Let Me Be Your Star by Smash Cast – Smash is my favorite TV show. I love the fact that it’s about getting on Broadway. This song is also a bit inspirational to me. It reminds me that if I really want something, I have to go out and get it.
  6. (If You’re Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To by Weezer – I used to play guitar in a band while I was in high school, and this song would always be super fun to jam to. It was so lively and upbeat that we would literally go crazy rocking out to it. It is one of those songs that automatically make you happy as soon as you hear it.
  7. Love On Top by Beyonce – Back in March, I was in one of my best friend’s cotillion. It is basically a huge party 18th birthday party where she has a “court” of 16 closest friends/family and we all perform for everybody else. It was so much fun. This song is the one we used for her surprise dance, and we nailed it. The night couldn’t have gone any better, and if I could I would reply that night over and over again.
  8. Can’t Stop by Red Hot Chili Peppers – This song makes me miss my brother. He was the biggest Red Hot Chili Peppers fan, and we would always turn this song up and go crazy. He and I are very close and we barely get into fights. We are pretty much the same person, just different genders. He’s my hero.
  9. Life’s A Happy Song by The Muppets – From The Muppets Movie, this song is that happiest song I’ve ever heard. I can’t help but to sing along whenever I hear it. When I’m done, I just need to listen to this song, and I’ll be in a great mood for the rest of the day.
  10. Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) by Green Day – Green Day is my all-time favorite band. I’ve been obsessed with them since I was in 6th grade.

Lynda’s First Blog Entry (Playlist)

My Playlist

I decided to do a playlist of songs that I feel reflect my character. It isn’t in any specific order of preference or anything. Enjoy.

1. My Moment By: DJ Drama, 2 Chainz, Meek Mill, and Jeremih

I feel this song reflects my attitude whenever I start something new, whether its a new school, team, anything. I am just waiting for my moment to show my colors and what I can do. I feel that this song motivates me to be the best at what I am doing when I get a big chance especially if it involves proving someone wrong. I love disappointing those who doubt me, especially in sports.

2. Teach Me How to Dougie By: Cali Swag District

I know this song is a little old but I still love it. I do not really like to dance but whenever this song comes on I “hit my dougie.” I listen to this song before my games and in high school during practice I would always do this dance with my teammates.

3. Don’t Wake Me Up By: Chris Brown

I like to think of myself as a dreamer. I am always in my own little world thinking about the possibilities in life. I also have a lot of great dreams that I do not want to wake up from and I just it was my reality.

4. Dance With My Father By: Luther Vandross

This song makes me so emotional. It makes me think of my grandfather and how I miss him terribly. It also makes me think of my moms feelings toward losing because of the relationship they had. Not a day goes by that I don’t think of him. 🙁 RIP Granpa

5. Beautiful People By: Chris Brown

I think everyone is beautiful in their own way its just a matter of how they express themselves. I feel that this song allows you to just be free and not have a care in the world for what others think of you. I think the video was awesome by the way, seeing it and hearing the song actually brings a lot of life into me.

6: Daughters By: Nas

As soon as I heard this song on the radio I thought of my daddy. The lyrics of this song are exactly how my dad acts toward me. I am daddy’s little girl so I know it’s hard of letting me go and seeing me go into the cold world by myself. If any song in the world were a mirror reflection of me I would say it is this song.

7. Basketball By: Kurtis Blow

Basketball is just a sport to some people but it is way more than a game to me, it is my life and my passion. I don’t see how my life would be without this “game.” I am always dressed in basketball attire I just always want to play or watch games. This song is on the “NBA 2K12” soundtrack and that is my favorite game, it is the only game I own for PS3. Whenever I hear this song it gets me soooooooo excited.

8. Man in the Mirror By: Michael Jackson

This song used to get me emotional but when I actually sat down to listen to the lyrics I realized it was song to help others. I am a good-hearted person and wish I could save the world from terrible things such as poverty and abuse. I believe I’ll one day change the world whether it is by doing something small or something really great.

9. Fly By: Nicki Minaj and Rihanna

This is a motivational song. I believe in “the sky’s the limit” and anyone can accomplish anything. I love winning more than anything and I’ll do anything to win. There are a lot of barriers and obstacles you have to get by but once you through that everything gets easy until the next challenge you are faced with and then you have to start all over. The lyrics are powerful to me.

10. Diva By: Beyonce

I have been told plenty of times that I am a diva and I am starting to see it more as I get older. There have been moments when I won’t do things because it is not to my liking. Even though I am an athlete I have a sassy side to me. This song is the definition of my attitude.

Well this is my playlist of songs that I feel reflect me. Some of these songs I listen to all of the time and others I listen to when I need to feel motivated. It was a rough process for me but I got through it. If you prejudged me as the total opposite as to who I am, hopefully this gave you an idea as to who I really am. Thanks. Hope you guys enjoy. 🙂

FRO playlist

So, I decided to do the whole playlist thing because music really is what I am most passionate about in life. It’s had quite an impact on my life so far and I just want to be surrounded by music by some way or another for the rest of my life. I know everybody will probably say this but music really does help me get by every day. I pretty much have a song or group of songs for every mood that I’m in. I play a bunch of different instruments such as guitar, drums, sax and more. I really like obscure instruments that not a lot of people play so that’s how I picked up the mandolin and ukulele. I think these songs pretty much describe me quite well. People my age probably have never heard of most of the music I listen to. Well, at least my friends have no clue usually. I guess I should stop rambling and list my song choices now…..

1. Ac-cent-tchu-ate the positive (Arlen /Mercer)  – Well, this song was first published in 1944. I had not heard of it until last year when Paul McCartney released his album of American standards. This song stood out to me because it was really positive (hence the title) and its a really feel good song. With most people I kinda try to accentuate the positive in them, and in myself. As the song goes, you gotta accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative. I think that’s a pretty good way to live life.

2. Sir Duke (Stevie Wonder) – This song is pretty much an ode to the classic musicians; Miller, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong etc. who all are pretty big influences in my musical life.

3. In My Life (Lennon/ McCartney) – This song reminds me of the people in my life and what they mean to me. My friends and family really mean a lot to me and this song kind of relates to that. The people in my life are really important to me and are really what help me get by when I need someone by my side. Even after we all went off to college, my high school friends are still extremely close and we talk pretty much every day even though they’re so far away.

4.With a Little Help From My Friends (Lennon/ McCartney) – This kind of relates to the previous song/ explanation. I really do get by thanks to my friends.

5. Watching the Wheels (John Lennon) – This song kind of relates to my way of life. I really do like to just sit back and “watch the wheels go round” so to speak. I have a pretty calm life and like to observe the world around me.

6. La de da (Ringo Starr) – This song relates to my lifestyle as well. the song pretty much just says whatever will be, will be. I like to live by this carefree lifestyle at times. even though there are times where you really have to be aware of everything that’s going on, it is always nice to just sit back and relax.

7.One Day at a Time (Elton John/ John Lennon) – One day at a time is pretty much how I live. I’m not one who really plans every little thing for my future. yes, of course you need to have some notion of where you’re going in life but there are some things that you just have to take one day at a time.

8. Y not (Ringo Starr) – This song got me to build a relationship with Ringo. I hate having the feeling of thinking, what if?. this is why I always take every opportunity I get to advance in life. If a good opportunity arises, I think why not? and usually it’s pretty beneficial.

9. When will you die? (They Might Be Giants) – Yes- when will you die? I just really like this song. and of course, there’s those people that you just have to think, when will you die?! I know, it’s kind of bad but if you listen to the song, it is quite awesome. And it’s by one of the few current bands that I actively listen to.

10. New York City (John Lennon) – I love New York City. This song pretty much summarizes what I love about it and why. John Lennon also Loved NYC as I do so I can kind of connect with him with this song.

These are not songs that define me as a person but that define the experiences I have had. I believe we are all products of our environments and the experiences I have been forced to deal with have made me who I am. I am everything around me. Everyone I have ever met, all the things I have ever seen, and everything I have ever done have made me who I am. The songs I have chosen not only represent the experiences I have had but the way I felt during certain times in my life. Music is everything to me, it’s the one thing in my life that I can always count on to be there no matter what. It has always been therapeutic, and the one thing I go to whenever I am having a bad day, week, or month. It is also the thing I go to when I am having a great day, week, or month. These songs define great moments in my life as well as ones that were not so great. Music is the best way for a person to tell his or her story and I know it is the best way for me to tell mine.  I play three instruments, guitar, piano, and violin. I have been playing the violin and taking lessons since I was 8, and at age 10 I began teaching myself how to play the piano and at age 13 taught myself how to play the guitar. And yes, I know how cliché the whole music is my life thing is but I really don’t care at all. When you find your passion in life it doesn’t matter how many people have the same one it is still yours. The fact that so many people feel the same way about music that I do, does not make it any less important to me. I have chosen these ten songs because at this point if my life these songs bring me back to some of my most unforgettable memories and experiences. All of these songs take me back to times in my life I know have shaped me to be the person I am today. Some are songs that remind me of certain things and others are songs that helped get me through other things. Music is not just lyrics, and melodies, its emotions. And this songs are all perfect examples of my emotions at some point or another in my life

playlist

freshmen post #1

Amy Sung

So i’m doing the 10 song playlist but the thing is I actually have no idea how to put the actual playlist on this blog. So ill just put a song list I hope that’s acceptable

1. Skrillex- Cinema

2. Dash Berlin- Better half of me

3. Aqualung- Something to believe in

4. Wong lee hom- Hand in Hand

5. Manifest- The Gift

6. The Wanted- Glad you Came

7. Chris Tomlin- Come Running Home

8. Tangled- I See The Light

9. Myleene Klass- For The Love Of The Princess

10. Jason Mraz- I’m Yours

Music is a big part of my daily life because i’m always on the go. The commute to baruch is around one hour and forty five minutes so its very easy for me to sit or stand in the subway plug in my earphones and listen to music for the full ride there and back. I don’t really have a specific genre that I like to listen to, basically I usually like all music. Some songs that I put on my playlist are just the songs that I like now or what i’m in the mood for but some songs on the playlist are my favorite or have a special meaning to me. The song cinema by skrillex is one of my favorite rave songs and it brings me back to the good times of high school with my best friends. The song The Gift, and Come Running Home are my favorite religious songs. They have great meaning when you listen to what the song is saying. The song I See The Light came from one of my all time favorite movies Tangled. This song other than the melody being awesome but the lyrics are very touching. It talks about how even though you are in the dark right now you hang in there and you will eventually see the light. I’m usually not a fan of the asian/chinese music but the song hand in hand was created by not only one but groups of famous chinese/taiwanese singers trying to help create awareness on the natural disasters that happened in china. Due to the song being a big hit there were many donations given to help those that were affected by the earthquake and hurricanes. The Song for the love of the princess is just a melody but it is very calming i listen to music like this when i feel that i need to focus and buckle down on something. Usually studying or doing homework. But if i feel like it has been a long long day ill turn up my ipod into some classical music.

Ill probably update and add a little more later because i need to catch a train to go to baruch for a big volleyball game tonight 😮

Lauren’s Playlist! (I can’t believe I’m doing this…)

http://grooveshark.com/#!/playlist/Baruch+Playlist/77712574

Be prepared for a new musical experience guys.

1. Who You Are- Ed Sheeran (Jessie J cover)

This song helped me with my insecurity. I also love the original by Jessie J but as amazing as her voice is, my undying love for Ed Sheeran and the moving piano and guitar in the beginning makes my list. The inspiring lyrics, “Don’t lose who you are/ In the blur of the stars/Seeing is deceiving/Dreaming is believing/Its okay not to be okay/ helped me get through a lot of problems.

2. Wotless- Kes the Band

AND I FEEEEEEL LIKE! I JUST WIN A MILLION DOLLAS!!

WOOHOO! Let’s enter the world of soca! Better get used to it. There’s gonna be alot of it on here. This song took the Caribbean by storm last year. There isn’t really a dictionary definition of the word “wotless” but the general meaning is “once my song is my playing and the music is nice, you can’t tell me anything. I’ll do whatever the hell I want, dance with who the hell I want and drink what the hell I want. I can’t be bothered by anything.” This song pretty much describes my life and most party animals.

3. You Need Me, I Don’t Need You- Ed Sheeran

Well this is pretty self explanatory. You need me, I don’t need you. I’ve been known to do things on my own. I hate asking for help. Its one of my many faults. But hey we all have them. Oh and the live version of this song on SBTV will probably one of the most incredible things you will witness in your life. But I’m a big fan of him so I’m probably a bit biased.

4. Coming Over- Kes the Band

Yay more soca! Kes the Band are actually really incredible. They’ve brought a whole new sound to soca music. All these new elements have made them popular worldwide. Even in Japan!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-CP5AqyPis This song in particular is about foreigners who visit the island of Trinidad during its carnival season and fall in love with the music, people, and culture and they make a promise to return to the island. I have made a vow that I will go to Trinidad’s Carnival at least once in my life. My family is form Guyana and we have our own carnival, Mashramani, but it isn’t as well known as Trinidad’s own.

5. Jeux Interdis (Spanish Romance)-Miloš Karadaglić

This song is simple, beautiful and elegant. A lot like me! 😛 I’m not that elegant, but I can aspire to be! It’s my dream to learn how to play this song on the guitar. I’m nearly there though! Milos is and incredible guitarist.

6. You Don’t Know (For Fuck’s Sake) – Yelawolf Feat. Ed Sheeran

The very first line is “Living the life a student I begin on a high” so when I first heard it I was all “Hey! I’m a student getting a higher education!” and then it proceeds to almost accurately described for my college life, except I don’t rap. Or beatbox. I’m terrible at beatboxing. Its pretty bad. Painfully bad. Actually, Ed is providing beat for this track using only his mouth, guitar, and a loop pedal! Then Yelawolf comes on the track, giving all these philosophical and things-that-make-you-go-hmm and i-can-relate-to-that bars. I just love this song. The EP this song is on (The Slumdog bridge) is also great. Plus, I wanted a song with a curse word in the title because I tend to curse a lot. 🙂

7. Vibes Cyah Done- Machel Montano

Translation: You can’t stop the vibes! The music is a part of me! Pretty accurate description of my life. Plus, Machel Monatano is one of my favorite artists. In one of my seven fantasy universes he and I are married with several children who start a band of their own, much like Machel did. Machel came onto the soca music scene at NINE YEARS OLD. His first single was aptly named “Too Young To Soca”. He’s been doing this for nearly 30 years. His style is unique and entertaining and that is why he is THE KING OF SOCA. ilovehimilovehimilovehimilovehim.

8. I Am Soca- Kerwin Du Bois Feat Patrice Roberts

You guys shouldn’t be surprised by this considering on how much I’ve been going on about   it for most of this playlist. Self explanatory. I love it. I live it. I am the rudeness in your face/ I am the rhythm in your waist/ I am soca. Is there really anything else to say?

9. I Love College- Asher Roth

I think you guys can figure this one out. College life has been pretty good to me so far. The only negative is all the blasted money I have to spend.

10. I’m Yours Remix- Jason Mraz Feat. Jah Cure and Lil Wayne

I want a love like this. Jason Mraz is an incredible artist and I was ELATED when I heard this remix which featured another one of my favorite artists…no, not you Lil Wayne.. JAH CURE! Jah cure is a reggae artist who I adore! He sings conscious music and beautiful love songs. His real name is atrocious though. Siccature Alcock. Bleck. His verse truly makes the song for me. I don’t need no time/And I don’t need no reason/
I’m yours/ Whenever whenever whenever I’ll be there through every season. LOVE. HIM.

Anyway, that’s about it guys! This took a lot longer than I thought it would. It was also kind of fun. Wasn’t nearly as painful as i thought it would be. I hope you got an idea of who I am with this playlist. I look forward to hearing what you guys are into and I hope you guys check out what I listen to as well. Peace out everybody!

My Playlist :)

http://grooveshark.com/#!/playlist/Lenore+s+Playlist+1/77714311

I created a playlist on Grooveshark of my favorite songs, in no particular order.

“Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent” ― Victor Hugo

1. The Call by Regina Spektor
One of my favorite lines in this song is “All you can do is try to know
who your friends are as you head off to the war” I think friendship is such a beautiful and important thing that can so easily be so cheapened by just throwing the word around haphazardly. I think that truly knowing who your friends are, who will be there for you, is such a blessing and that same feeling is highlighted in this song.

2. Two Princes by The Spin Doctors
This song has always been one of my favorites. It’s very cute in the lovey dovey sense that he wants to talk to her for hours and buy her flowers but there’s a lot to be said for its deeper meaning of the importance of unconditional love. One of my favorite lines is “Oh, your majesty!  Come on forget the King… marry me! “. He says it with such urgency, putting such stress on the importance of real love over a love of convenience.

3. Sway by Michael Buble
Dean Martin was the original singer of this old-time romance song but I really love how Michael Buble has revamped it without ruining it. His voice really shines through this song. I think the visuals, such as in ” like a lazy ocean hugs the shore, hold me close, sway me more”, are beautiful. The lyrics of a song, and words in general, are very important to me and I love the picture painted in this one.

4. Hammers and Strings by Jack’s Mannequin
Being a very sensitive person, I tend to shy away from overly sad music but this song is the exception. “And my friend calls me up with her heart heavy still.
She says, “Andy, the doctors prescribed me the pills. But I know I’m not crazy, I just lost my will. So why am I, why am I taking them still?” This line is absolutely heart wrenching and while I’ve never reached the point of psychiatric treatment, I think the helplessness at the heart of the song is very relatable.

5. London Beckoned Songs About Money By Machines by Panic! at the Disco
Panic! at the Disco is by far my favorite band. If it wasn’t detrimental to my grade, I’d put links to every album they have and call it a day. This song is a little different from what I usually like by this band but the lyrics are as interesting as the title. “Just for the record, The weather today is slightly sarcastic with a good chance of:  A) Indifference or B) Disinterest in what the critics say”. I love this line and I know it’s become such a cliche but I think it is so important to just live and let live, to do your own thing regardless of what others say.

6. Northern Downpour by Panic! at the Disco
I couldn’t help but add another P!ATD song. This song is soothing in its sound but very serious in its meaning. The song is about how things aren’t always the way they seem and I think everyone, myself included, has experienced that firsthand. ” For diamonds do appear to be just like broken glass to me…Through playful lips made of yarn that fragile Capricorn unravelled words like moths upon old scarves” The singer is saying that the things that we value such as money and fame are dangerous despite how they may seem and that our words that may seem “playful” can be destructive.

7. Hallelujah by Rufus Wainwright
My faith is very important to me and I find this song to be both spiritual and moving, though most people remember it from the wedding scene in Shrek.  The first line which says, “I’ve heard there was a secret chord that David played, and it pleased the Lord but you don’t really care for music, do you?” is my favorite. I find its allusion to a biblical story to be interesting and its message of holding onto your faith through struggles to be a powerful one.

8. Out of My League by Stephen Speaks
This song really doesn’t have a deeper meaning. It’s just a very cute love song.
I find it refreshing and interesting to hear someone talking about outer beauty without objectifying a woman. My favorite line is ” All the times I have sat and stared as she thoughtfully thumbs through her hair and she purses her lips, bats her eyes as she plays, with me sitting there slack-jawed and nothing to say ‘cuz i love her with all that I am”

9.Book of Love by Pete Gabriel
This song is so beautiful. That’s the only way I can describe it.  ” The book of love has music in it. In fact that’s where music comes from. Some of it is just transcendental. Some of it is just really dumb. But I I love it when you sing to me. And you, you can sing me anything” As I’ve said, I love visuals and the idea of an actual book of love and what would be in it is just fascinating and wonderful.

10. Dirty Pop by NSYNC
Yes, you read that right. I couldn’t help myself nor can I really justify this choice. I just love this song. Ending this post on a lighter note 🙂

Playlist Blog

A. Siswanto

http://grooveshark.com/playlist/Arvien+s+Playlist/77732702

So this weeks topic was to post a video, slideshow, or a playlist. Honestly I thought doing the songs would be the least time consuming so I just did that. Everyone here pretty much wrote that “music is  life” or that it helps them get through tough times but honestly, I just like listening to music. I can bump to a lot of things except songs that are TOO extreme. You know what I’m talking about, rock music with TOO much screaming, rap music that’s TOO dirty, and country music’s that TOO…well, country. So i guess I’m an average listener, pretty much bopping my head to anything that sounds good to me.

The songs I chose are or were songs I could listen to over and over and over again. They’re from artists spanning across all different genres and sounds but they all come together for a playlist I made.

The first song on there is PSY’s “Oppa Gangnam Style”. Yes, I like this song, so what? At first I didn’t know what this guy was saying and then I looked a bit more into it with the English translations, but I still really don’t know what this guy is saying. But if I had to summarize it, he’s basically telling a girl that he’s different from a lot of other guys and that the girl he’s talking about is unique as well. The video makes absolutely no sense but it’s pretty fun to watch. I like PSY because in a market dominated by pretty-boys, comes along this pudgy looking guy that makes an overnight international hit. Plus this guy had two of his earlier albums banned in Korea, making him pretty badass in my book.

The next song on the list is “Gravity” by John Mayer. I like a stripped-down. slow jam to listen to every once in a while and John Mayer definitely delivers. His voice really compliments the electric guitar in the back and I like the live version better because he does a lot of improvisation which is what makes a good concert artist.

The next song is “Internet Songs” by Knife Party. This is actually one of the only songs I know from them but it’s just a really fun house song to listen to. It’s got a lot of humor in it which I like in my music as well as a catchy beat. House music is something I recently got into and the reason why I fell in love with it is the culture. The environment at raves and these huge, sold-out festivals is really inviting and everyone just wants to have a good time.  Most of the time it’s due to illegal drugs but still, an inviting scene.

Lastly we have Frank Ocean’s “Super Rich Kids”. I think he absolutely killed it on this track, and he creates this kind of perfectly crafted story that I really don’t get from much artists. Earl Sweatshirt features on this one making this song an instant classic.

Blog post #1!!! (Katerina Nicolaou)

Alright…I don’t know what was I thinking but I’ve just spend a good amount of hrs, probably 2, creating this awesome (in my opinion:D) video that has the title ‘5 Interesting Facts About Myself’, its got soundtracks and pictures and all that so it would be nice if you guys took the time to watch it, my hard work would be paid off 😀

So I started with the first and most obvious fact which is:
-I grew up in Cyprus-
I hope most of you guys know where Cyprus is but anyways lets do some geography lessons, its the 3rd largest island of the Mediterannean and its right next to Greece, its in Europe, actually Greece and Cyprus are kind of considered the same. We have the same language, national anthem, religion, similar cultures but different pronunciations.
Although my home was in Cyprus and I went to school over there, I kinda grew up in the States and in Cyprus at the same time. Ever since I can remember, me and my family would be in the states for at least 4-5 months a year, I would even take off school for weeks ( I almost failed 8th and 9th grade coz of all the absences)!
Cyprus is beautiful…imagine the greek islands..pretty much same beauty…and that leads us to the next fact about me…..

-I love nature, the ocean and the mountains-
I mean, in Cyprus you could just walk to the beach, its always ‘right there’ and I guess it was always there for me to go get some peace of mind in difficult times. I just needed to glance at the beach…take a look at the endless sea…and all of the sudden everything would become much easier. I’m really grateful that I had the chance to grow up so close to nature! Now I want to be as close to it as possible by going hiking, camping in the mountains and by the beach, scuba diving, fishing (i actually go on a traditional fishing boat with all the fishermen in Greece and do whatever they r doing lol seriously i love it)

3rd Fact-I love salsa music

I mean…that rhythm is amazing…and yes I spelled rhythm incorrectly in the video hehe..get used to it, English isn’t my first language!;p Anyways, I love salsa music so much …. i started salsa lessons in high school and went to workshops in different cities where we learned all kinds of styles, with partners and not. Actually, its cuban salsa that i like, LA style not so much.

fACT 4- I enjoy cooking

I mean, I guess I grew up watching my dad cook all the time and now I enjoy doing it myself. I swear I don’t have a single recipe I just throw in whatever flavor or spice pops up in my head and (most of the times hehe) the mixture of different flavors results in a very delicious meal. Seriously now, I really enjoy it i think it also calms me down. As my mom says you have to cook food with love, thats the secret ingredient. And I really enjoy cooking for other people, coz its nice to give somebody something you created yourself-especially if they actually like it in the end hehhe!

fACT 4- I enjoy performing on stage!

Alright so all the show business started when I begun to take classical singing lessons back in 8th grade, I worked on my voice and ended up being soprano and able to sing opera- but classical music is just the base of it, then you can experiment with any style of music you want.

So i was interested in broadway and I actually did a summer workshop a few years ago here in NYC. Its called Broadway Artists Alliance if anybody knows of them. It was very challenging first you had to have an audition to actually be able to participate in the program and then they send us on actual broadway auditions (omg), dont even get me started on this story. I had no idea we were going that far so after I got myself together performed for the directors and the agents and whatever important people were there and they offered me a role in Grease musical but I didnt take it coz I had to go back and finish school. haha no im joking they didn’t offer me a job but i impressed them! ok im gonna stop writing now! lol
Alright that’s it hope you enjoyed the video!
