i am re writing this because it wasn’t long enough the first time.  music has a very big impact on me, it helps me get to school in the morning, helps me get through my long hard days, helps me communicate with the people around me.  i love rap music and i love alternative music. some of my favorite bands would consist of blink 182, a day to remember, linkin park, rush, etc. My favorite rap groups are G.O.O.D. Music, odd future wolf gang, wu tang clan, new world order.  it was hard for me to pick a favorite song by kanye west, because he is one of my favorite artist, and everything he produces is just so good, but i chose “Good Life” because that was the song that got me hooked into him.  I can literally listen to Kanye West for days, he is really an amazing artist.  Kid cudi, as lame as it sounds helped me get through some difficult phases in my life.  He music is so mellow, and just so real.  He raps about things such as life, and struggles, not money, cars and girls like every other rapper out there.the two songs i put on here by him are two of his newest songs, and they are two of his best.  i have been listening to kid cudi since 8th grade, and he never fails to amaze me.  He is by far my favorite artist of all time.  i put daylight on here by matt&kim because it was one of the first songs i learned to play on the piano, which i play pretty good. Next what i put on here was basically rivals of different time periods, some people say odd future is the new wu tang..? if you say that you deserve to be shot, i put on oldie by odd future because it has almost everyone in OF have at least one verse, and C.R.E.A.M. by the wu tang clan, same theory.  Wu Tang is legendary.  You can not call yourself a fan of rap if you dont listen or like Wu tang.

The next rapper i put on here is earl sweatshirt.  many say earl sweatshirt is the future of rap, a dying industrial of sell outs.  But earl brings something new to the table.  He is the same age as me, spitting lyrics that are unheard of.  He is the light at the end of the tunnel for rap, which is good because rap and hip hop keep me sane.  But dont get me wrong, i hate mainstream rappers such as drake, lil wayne, nicki minja, they shouldn’t even call themselves artists.

The next song i put on here, punching in dream by the naked and famous has a lot of personal meaning too me between me and my girlfriend.  I dont want to share this on a blog.

A lot of people hate on mac miller but personally i think he’s the man.  his beats add a new “flavor” to the rap game. he is another part of hope for the rap game.

the final song i have on here is silver and cold, by afi, i put this on because i needed at least one alternative song on here, and i chose this one because afi set the foundation for bands like blink, adtr, etc.

Playlist:

Up All Night by Alex Clare

After hearing his song Too Close 100 times on the Internet Explorer commercials, I decided to look him up and ended up falling in love with this song. I think parts of the song are relatable and ring true. I like that his music doesn’t have a set sound, he mixes it up so it doesn’t sound like he is making the same song with different lyrics.

Falling by the Civil Wars

Their sound is very haunting and I can’t get enough of it. The lyrics to the song alone resonate with me, and combined with the simplicity of the composition (very stripped and acoustic), I think it’s a beautiful marriage. The verse: “Why am I feeling so guilty?  Why am I holding my breath? Worry ’bout everyone but me, I just keep losing myself” hits home because it describes how I used to feel about certain situations with my friends from home.

Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson

It’s kind of old and cheesy, but I like it because the entire first verse reminds me of the reasons why I left small-town Pennsylvania to live in New York City.  No explanation needed because it’s all in the song.

Death by White Lies

It’s simply a good song. The title can be misleading, but it’s fitting because the singer expresses his fear of losing what he has. That in turn is making him fearful and is keeping him from taking any action to prevent his imminent loss. I think everyone has one of those moments where you’re afraid of what might happen that you choke and end up missing an opportunity to do something.

L’Amour by Bingo Players

Dance/house music is awesome in my book and this song makes me want to get up and do the robot and then breakdance. It doesn’t really have any lyrics, but it gets me on my feet and has a great beat.

Home by Phillip Phillips

It’s the kind of song that I listen to when I’m travelling (specifically: taking the bus from PABT to home) because it has a sense of nostalgia, but hope. Like no matter where you are or no matter what hardship you’re going through, there is a support system wherever you go and you’re not alone.

Radioactive by Imagine Dragons

Anything by Imagine Dragons (and the Civil Wars) is pretty much gold.

99 Problems by Hugo

It’s a completely new take on the Jay-Z song. By far one of the best cover songs I have heard. Hugo doesn’t stick to the racially charged lyrics Jay-Z drops, but instead does his variation which makes it fairly original despite a few similar lyrics and a similar beat.

Valerie by Amy Winehouse

Her soulful voice makes the song as good as it is. She had so much passion in her lyrics and her voice matched the music perfectly no matter what song. Valerie isn’t necessarily her deepest song (especially compared to the ones about her addictions), but it is a nice, soulful

Cough Syrup by Young the Giant

Despite the fact that it’s about abusing cough syrup (by some people’s interpretation), it’s a good song.

The Pieces Don’t Fit Anymore by James Morrison

It’s simply about wanting what you can’t have and how, no matter how hard you try to make it work, things just fall apart. It’s a very touching song that goes perfectly with his raspy voice. In a way it pulls at the heart strings because he sings about how he tried to give the relationship his all, but at the end of the day, “the pieces don’t fit anymore”. That’s related able for any kind of situation; giving something your all and it just falls apart.

http://grooveshark.com/#!/playlist/Freshman+Seminar/77659604

I chose to create a playlist rather than any of the other options because music is just perfect. At all times, music can be listened to, and there’s a song suitable for every moment of life. House music, that music you hear when you go clubbing, is the best type of music to listen to when you’re at clubs or getting ready to go clubbing. Its absolutely amazing music and never fails to get a crowd pumped up. I chose to start off with “save the world tonight” because this is house music however it can go under the chilled music category. After reading Nick’s blog I was very impressed because I also am a huge fan of rap and my favorite rapper of all time is Eminem. He’s a pure lyrical genius and his raps are gold. Space bound was one of my personal favorites. Next in line comes Drake, otherwise known as “Champagnepapi.” His newest album was just unbelievable and Marvin’s Room seemed to really hit me the most. I actually had this phase where I enjoyed listening to Coldplay. That phase ended a long time ago, although Clocks, and Viva la Vida seemed to really stick in my mind. The real top of the list type of music today is electric music. There are countless concerts, major ones that have sold out crowds who go insane. Electric Zoo, Electric Daisy Carnival, and Identity are small examples of the many concerts that take place. I’ve  been to quite a few of these and I must say, they are the craziest things I have ever been to. They tend to be full day concerts, or take place throughout a whole entire weekend. People show up wearing barely any clothes on, however whatever they are wearing is normally in a neon color. I don’t know where the whole custom of wearing neon came from but at least 80% of people wear that to the intense concerts. These concerts get so crazy that the dj Steve Aoki even throws cakes at peoples faces during the performances. The craziest part about that is that people beg to have the cakes beamed at their faces.  This year a new concert is coming to the US. Its been going on all throughout Europe and for the first time it is going to be in the US. They call it Sensation White, and it literally means however it sounds. Everyone who attends wears completely white clothing and rumor has it that this concert will be the best there was yet.  Don’t ask me why I stuck in that random song by Bon Jovi. Its just an electrifying song in that most mysterious way. I ended off my playlist with the famous song from the movie The Hangover. It was sung by Stu, one of the main characters and until this day every lyric is in my head. Both a hilarious and interesting song, that ends off my top ten playlist.

FIRST LOG POST!! By: Keith Ezersky

Freshman seminar presentation

I decided to do the 8 image slideshow for my first blog post. I picked this one because I think pictures are a great way to show everyone who you are. The first picture I picked was a picture of set of triplets. I am not the one in the photo but I used the photo to tell everyone that I am a triplet. I have two brother. Their names are Eric and Josh. Eric goes to Old Westbury and Josh goes to Suny Farmingdale. The second picture i picked was a picture of a strong guy. I picked this picture because I work out a lot and I do consider myself strong. I am extremely dedicated to working out to stay in great shape and be at the top of my game for baseball. I also consider myself to be a strong minded person. If I make a decision to do something, I am going to do it. The third picture i picked was a picture of the word smart. I consider myself to be an intelligent person who always puts 100 percent into everything I do, in school and the baseball field. I work extremely hard in school to make sure my grades stay at an A or higher. The fourth picture i picked was a picture of the word funny. I like to say that I am a funny person. I am always that kid making jokes but in a good way. I don’t hurt peoples feelings but I do like to joke around in this crazy world that we live in. I like to laugh everyday and I think that if you laugh at least once per day it keeps you healthier and happier. The fifth picture I picked was a picture of a lot of sports. I am very athletic and always play a lot of sports. I am currently on the Baruch Baseball team and have played baseball and basketball in high school and throughout my childhood. I have been on many championship winning teams in baseball and basketball. I also played a lot of football with my friends and I enjoy swimming. Swimming is great exercise because it engages the whole body. The sixth picture I picked was a picture about being responsible. I am a very responsible person. I have strict values when it comes to homework, test, and papers. I am a person who does’t like to leave things to the last minute. If i get what I need to do done early, than I don’t to deal with the stress of forgetting to do it and have nothing done when I walk into class. I am also a very responsible brother. I help my brother with his homework and always make sure he stays on top of his studies. The 7th picture I picked was a picture of a friendly yellow guy. I am good at making friends in new places. I came to this school not knowing anybody and it has only been a month of schools and I have already made a lot of friends. The last picture I picked was a picture about being a leader. I always pride myself of being ahead of the pack. I try to lead by example in whatever I do. I am not a follower, but a leader.

my first blog post – Playlist by Rebecca Ungarino

This is a playlist I created on Spotify.

Not in any specific order of importance, all of these tunes are extraordinarily important to me. The reasons vary; some I won’t share on a public blog, and some that make for lovely conversations are parties.

Scar Tissue by Red Hot Chili Peppers is one of the most important songs to me. “Soft spoken with a broken jaw, step outside, but not to brawl. Autumn’s sweet, we call it fall. I’ll make it to the moon if I have to crawl. With the birds I’ll share this lonely view…” The bridge and chorus to this song are relatable on a multitude of levels- in my brain, at least. Loneliness, the value of speech, the view of the birds perched on a wire, autumn is a magical time of growth and death.. I love this song.

Constant Headache by Joyce Manor is an unsuspecting addition to this playlist. Joyce Manor is a contemporary punk band who I love. “It made me think maybe human’s not such a bad thing to be…” This reminds me of episodes in my life, and feelings that I could only properly convey through sounds and another person’s words, if that makes any sort of sense.

Dayglow Vista Road by Minus the Bear is the third song on my playlist. The title of the song alone is an appropriate introduction to any person who has never listened to the grandeur that is Minus the Bear. “Everybody’s got a high on/ Down by the old path coast” and “What’s a little bit of rain?” offer insite into my own mentality at times. At the happiest moments in my life, I would like to encapsulate my feelings into a Minus the Bear song, which are most often about alcohol, not understanding where you are at the moment, and sex.

Landslide by The Smashing Pumpkins is obviously a cover by the Pumpkins of Fleetwood Mac’s 1975 hit. Stevie Nicks of the Smashing Pumpkins has always been one of my mother’s favorite artists, and will always remind me of my mom. “Oh mirror in the sky, what is love? Can the child within my heart rise above?” These are lovely questions. I would call myself a person who likes to ask questions.

Ignorant Piece of Shit by Carissa’s Wierd – The misspelling of ‘weird’ is intentional. This song has an air of such sadness that resonates with me. I would say something I deal with on a daily basis is ignorance — ignoring it, challenging it, embracing it as a means of entertainment, excusing it, understanding it… there are a lot of things I do not know, and in fear of sounding ignorant, I am trying to learn as much as I can on a daily basis about the world I live in. “I like the way you roll your eyes right before you fall down”

Chinatown by the Reivers is one of the first songs I took an extreme liking to. The Reivers is a small band from Austin, TX.

Dreams by the Cranberries, appropriately named, for it is what I think a dream would sound like, describes a state of mind that I would like to be in at all times: nostalgic. I love the Cranberries and I love Dolores O’Riorden.

Logan to Government Center (2000 Throwaway Demo) by Brand New is special in every sense of the word. Brand New is a band from Long Island, my home. I am not particularly fond of Long Island, but I am proud to say it is also the home of the beloved band. This is a song I listened to a lot this summer.

Brick by Ben Folds Five was on a CD that my dad burned when I was very young. Do you remember “burning” CD’s? I do. I love Ben Folds, and I love Ben Folds Five. I do not especially relate to this song, because it is indeed about an abortion that his high school girlfriend experienced. As devastating as this song is, the tone is more hopeful than not. I would like to say that I am hopeful, I am sad, I am greatly looking forward to the future, and I love the words to this song – “She’s a brick and I’m drowning slowly/ Off the coast and I’m heading nowhere…”

Under the Bridge by Red Hot Chili Peppers .. quite a song. Anthony Kiedis is the epitome of many things to me. These things I do not really wish to share on a public blog. I suppose one of those things is a man, at least from afar. He should probably be dead, and I believe he knows that, and I love the details he divulges in his autobiography, Scar Tissue.

FRO Playlist

Blog Post #1

http://grooveshark.com/#!/playlist/FRO+CRC+Playlist/77563988

This is just basically a list of my favorite songs from a few different genres. I like a lot of different types of music so I just mixed it together for this.

Well, apparently this needs to be 500 words as well so I’ll just go a bit into detail of why each of these songs are here.

Mockingbird-This is one of the first songs that really got me into Eminem(who has been my favorite artist for many years) at a young age, and this is still one of my favorite songs by him. I love how he raps about things that come from his heart and this song is a perfect example.

Beautiful-This is one of Eminem’s newer songs and also my favorite from his album “Relapse”. This song also comes from his heart and it really gets to me when I listen to it.

I’m Not Over-Though it is one of the very few rock songs I like, it is one of my favorite songs. I first heard it in the movie “What Happens in Vegas” and decided to search it up because it sounded like a really good song. I was right, it really is a great song, and I can liten to it anytime, no matter what mood I’m in.

You Belong With Me-Taylor Swift is my 2nd favorite artist behind Eminem, and this is perhaps my favorite song by her. It’s such a fun and catchy song, and the music video is even better. Taylor Swift in general, but this song being one of the main ones, always gets me in a better mood if I’m feeling upset.

Picture To Burn-I’m not sure if this is even in my top 5 Taylor Swift songs list, but I chose this because I still really like this song, and this song is what got me into listening to Taylor Swift. I love how she sings from the heart as well, like Eminem.

Cruel To Be Kind-I like 70’s songs. I actually like 70’s songs alot. This is definetley one of my favorites from the 70’s. It’s a great song that’s really fun to listen to, and could really get me energized when I’m about to do something important.

Copacabana-Has anyone not heard this song?? I really don’t know how anyone could say no. This is also one of my favorites from the 70’s, but this song is one of the classic songs in history. Go ask random people on the street, and I gaurantee many different people of many different ethnicities, ages, and races will tell you they have heard and even like this song.

She Will Be Loved-Perhaps one of my favorite songs ever. Such a beautiful song that I could listen to 100 times a day, and still not be sick of it. I personally think this is one of the best songs of our time, and I love Maroon 5 for it.

Heartless-Another one of my favorite songs. A nice, catchy song that I really feel like I can relate to sometimes. My favorite song by Kanye, and I wish he would come out with more songs that affect me like this

1985-Like I said, I don’t like many rock songs, but I love this song. Loud, fun, catchy song that I’ve sang by heart hundreds of times.
