voices

The voices performance of the monologues was interesting; it was especially interesting hearing the stories of other students. However, I personally thought the first voices that was performed was more interesting, I thought the actors in that show were much more entertaining and animated in their voices and body movement. Still yet I appreciated the work the actors of the monologue voices put into learning the monologues and expressing the intended voice of the author of each monologue.

Colm Toibin

Writing has always been a subject that has held my interest and has been a strength of mine; therefore it was interesting having a discussion with an established and acclaimed author about his work and his writing process. Colm Toibin was able to give us a closer look into his novel, by giving us the back story of how the story for his novel came about. By having a back story as a reader I was able to look at the novel through a different more intense lens. His comment that writing is a process, but that if you take it one day at a time one page at a time it can be done was very inspirational and encouraging to students. I believe students who are interested in writing were able to leave the workshop believing that writing a novel is something they too can do.

Monolouge

My name is Atika Lynch I’m 18 years old. I was born January 27th so I’m an Aquarius. I was born in Guyana a country in South America that is Caribbean cultured. I have two other sisters and all of us have names that begin with a and end in a. I have a middle name that I strongly dislike and won’t say. Oddly enough anytime my mom buys clothes for one sister she buys three of the same so that we can dress alike, even though were are not triplets, we’re all adults and my sisters are all much older than me. At Baruch I plan on majoring in economics then going on to law school to do corporate law.
I love food I hate a burger that’s not well done, I don’t do pink meat. I hate going to schnipper and having them give me a not well done burger. I dislike sugar free food, especially sugar free ice cream, my sister is a diabetic so there’s a lot of sugar free food in my house. I like going to different restaurants but I’m not adventurous with food. Every year for my birthday I go to a different restaurant with my two best friends and we usually find something crazy to do with the rest of the night and morning. I’m a very hard working and determined person, when I make up my mind to do something I get it done and it’s done at a high level.
I always try to keep myself busy during and after the school year. In my ninth grade year of high school I did Youth about Business at Colombia University, in my tenth grade year I did the best program at NYU, and in my 11th grade year I did Junior Statesmen of America at Georgetown University. During my senior year of high school, I did something that I am extremely proud of, I started a school magazine. This is something that I am proud of because in my school we didn’t have any kind of newspaper that could inform students and so my magazine was able to fill this gap by proving entertainment as well as vital information.

playlist that describes me

Hi everyone, my name is Atika Lynch and this is a play list I chose to describe me in no particular order.

  1. Fighter by Christina Aguilera – This song describes me in its most basic form in that after all the adversity I have been through I fought out of it and I’ve gotten stronger. My strength is something I take pride in, many times when things are in disarray I have the ability to keep calm and keep strong.
  2. Party by Beyoncé – I chose this song because I enjoy having a good time and attending a good party. I also chose this song because my personality can sometimes be described as a party. I love having a positive and uplifting spirit and I enjoy having the ability to make someone feel better with my personality.
  3. Cheers (Drink to that) by Rihanna – I chose this song because after a long strenuous week at school I enjoy taking some time for myself to relax and let loose.
  4. Champion by Buju Banton – This song is not only a reflection of me culturally but it also represents my character.  Being that the genre of the song is reggae it is able to represent me culturally as I am from the Caribbean.  In addition I strongly believe it is important that I always strive to be great at everything that I do and exceed the standard; this song champion reflects that belief.
  5. Got to be real by Patti Labelle – This song defines my character as an individual and as a friend. If someone asks for my opinion on a topic I will always speak my mind, in a respectful manner, but I tend to be very direct with my thoughts. If there is a truth someone needs to hear but the people around them are uncomfortable or fearful of telling them I’m the person that will step up and speak the truth.
  6. Man in the Mirror by Michael Jackson – Even though my gender is not male this song stills resonates with me. As a person I always make an effort to look at who I am and improve on that. As human beings we can never be perfect, but I think it is important to try and work towards perfect.
  7. On my own by Whitney Houston – This song describes my mentality about life and who I am as a person. I believe it’s so important to be independent and not to be scared to try things on your own. Life is about growth, living and learning, this experience will be the most rewarding when a person tries it by them self.
  8. Fly like a Bird by Mariah Carey – This song reflects who I am in terms of my faith and spirituality. The song says, “Fly like a bird, take to the sky I need you now, Lord, carry me high Don’t let the world break me tonight I need the strength of You by my side Sometimes this life can be so cold.” This describes the difficult times life sometimes takes us through and when I go through those times I look to God for strength.
