Rubin Museum – Mona Balgobin
Visiting the Rubin Museum was definitely a great experience for me. I enjoyed going there as a class and learning about a new culture. I was never aware about the Tibetan culture and art. When I first walked in the museum I saw the small golden sculptures. They seemed very familiar to me because my family is Hindu and the deities were in that form and structure. However, after reading the descriptions of the sculptures I realized that they were not of the Hindu culture but of the Himalayan. Irene and our other tour guide did a good job of explaining the background and the procedures people had to go through to become Buddhist. One of my favorite exhibitions was the Tibetan Shrine room. It gave off a serene and peaceful vibe. The music and the lighting seemed like something you would find in a Buddhist temple in China, it was something like I never saw before. I was very happy that I got to go to this Museum, it was a great experience.
