Hi Professor Lee,

I am emailing you to let you know that I have been extremely sick this past week so I will not be able to attend class the day of the midterm. I should be back to classes within the next week, so would you be able to schedule a day for me to take the midterm exam? I can take it as soon as I come back, so if you could accommodate me with a date that would be great. Thank you for taking the time to read this email.

PERSONAL ESSAY

Life has been an enjoyable journey so far; I am blessed to have a loving family that has always encouraged me to be self motivated and make my decisions in life and move from strength to strength. I am DISHANT and people usually call me DISH or DISH TV.

I learned the pleasure of fiddling around on the abacus at an early age and this in turn gave birth to a deep rooted love for mathematics. On pure self motivation, I took up science subjects in high school and truly reveled in the dynamism and pragmatism of the subjects I studied. I also marveled at how scientific innovation and computer science in particular acted as a catalyst to growth and socio-economic well being of the planet. My main aim is to build up a new concept and uncomplicated human life. With the advancement in technology, I need to learn the working of the systems so that I can develop my own.

Two of my other paternal uncles are well settled in Queens, New York and managing their own business. These are the people who have inspired me to take this sure path of success and hence, I now wish to pursue my further studies in the U.S. in  Bachelor’s in Business Administration program with a Major in Computer Information Systems’.

I have always been one of the best performing students of my class academically and attended one of the most prestigious secondary school “Delhi Public School” in India, where I have been a member in the school cabinet. As a cabinet member, my duties included dealing with student affairs and participating in discussions regarding school policies with the school administration. I was also the chief editor of the school magazine for the year 2012. This experience gave me an opportunity to begin developing my leadership skills and it instilled into me a – ‘sense of responsibility’.

Ever since my early years in school, I have strived to balance my academic life with my interests in extra-curricular activities.  I have participated in sports such as Taekwondo and Soccer and also won various medals and awards. My love for sports did not diminish even after a major accident during an inter-school soccer match when I injured my spinal cord and was on a complete bed rest for around 3 months in the beginning of the year 2011. I was also an F1 driver (racer) in under 20 INDIAN GRAND PRIX before I shifted to US.

Considering my civic obligations to the society – as a social worker, I have been working with a recognized NGO in India i.e. ‘The Rotary Club’. I undertook the management of a blood donation camp, worked with the team on ‘Save the Environment’ motto and also taught the under privileged children in the year of 2011 and 2012.

In grade 11, I opted for Science as my interest of stream with the ambition of becoming an automotive engineer. However, given my pedigree in business, I always had an interest in business and marketing. While, I had the technical aptitude, I also had interest in business and strategic planning. My interest from core study of engineering changed to Business Administration when I got the first hand experience of working for my father’s own business enterprise. For a long time I observed my father, practicing business. The business assignments involved interaction with people at all levels of the value chains and at organizational levels from the chairman of a $200 million firm to a packaging clerk earning $50 per day.

At his firm, I started contributing as a temporary employee and took up small assignments, managed accounts, worked with the web designing team and revamped his website. My view on pursuing business studies further strengthened during my internship experience at Keystone Group of Institutions (A Start-Up University set up by two Baruch Alumni) where I got an opportunity to work on various project initiatives. I came to realize that for any enterprise to function well – what is required is management aptitude. An organization may have the best of the products, services but if it is not managed properly then it may never be successful! Hence, it is imperative that I must obtain expertise in Business Management and simultaneously pursue my interests in technology with studying Computer Information Systems as my major in school! This way, I get to acquire the best of both – qualitative as well as quantitative skills!

I certainly have two aims in life and those are: To remove poverty and to be the cover of Forbes magazine.

Alex Faisaly Playlist

Hi! My name’s Alexander Faisaly, but you can just call me Alex. This playlist I say would describe who I am as a person. Fun, exciting, yet sensitive. While my musical tastes vary widely, I mostly enjoy edm genres such as trance, house, electro, and techno. While these genres would imply that I have a party persona inside me, I do have a side that tends to sit in bed, wander, and ponder about the various aspects of life and happiness.

My playlist: http://grooveshark.com/#!/playlist/Blog+1/90993236

Fire by Ferry Corsten- Ferry Corsten is one of the classic DJs of edm. While his popularity has faded throughout the years, his oldest hits remind me that the newer generation of DJs are not the only artists around. Fire is a song that personally hypes me up as I listen to it.

This Is What It Feels Like by Armin Van Buuren – One of my favorite DJs of ALL TIME. Have yet to see him perform, but would love to one day.

Burn by Ellie Goulding- Ellie Goulding has a voice that just makes me want to melt inside. Burn is one of her newer songs but I fell in love with it from the moment I heard it.

Shine by Spektrum- Whether I’m playing sports or games. This song is my go to song to get myself pumped up and ready. It also serves as a reminder that some of the best music can come from underground artists.

A Light That Never Comes by Linkin Park and Steve Aoki – Combine my favorite band of all time with a great DJ. This is the end product and it is absolutely amazing.

Calling by Sebastian Ingrosso – I personally love this song because Ryan Tedder’s voice sounds heavenly to me

Adagio for Strings by Tiesto – Another classic by one of the most popular DJs out there. I’ve listened to this song since my middle school days and sometimes I still fall asleep listening to this song.

Zero 76 by Tiesto – I have a soft spot for Tiesto and his collaboration with Hardwell on this song really called out to me. Another gem of a song that gets me pumped up for anything.

Explosions by Ellie Goulding – This song hits me at my soft spot. Whenever I feel down and sad I start up my “sadness” playlist on my ipod and I always make sure this is the first song that plays. There have been many times where I’ve broken down in tears while listening to this song and thinking about my troubles.

Tonight by John Legend – Like the song above, this song is in my “sadness” playlist. John Legend’s smooth and powerful voice gives this song a strong presense when I listen to it, while also providing comfort as well.

Elisabeth Lee

Hi! My name is Elisabeth Lee and this is my blog post on my 10 songs in a playlist. You will notice that most my songs edm music or indie pop, which completely contradict each other, nonetheless I usually only listen to them constantly. Most of these songs can describe my life, whereas the others are just simply for the joy of listening to.

My playlist and 500 words:

http://grooveshark.com/#!/playlist/Blog+Post+number+1/90989639

Never Say Goodbye by Hardwell – Right when I first listened to this song, I fell in love with it. I can honestly say that Hardwell is one of the best DJ’s out there right now, but how he collaborated with Dyro on this song makes it that much better.

Summertime Sadness by Lana Del Rey- This song has been my repeat song on my phone for the whole summer. It really has the summer vibe that I always miss when summer ends and I’ll always turn to this song whenever I feel nostalgic about summer.

Young and Beautiful by Lana Del Rey – If there is one song that I can call my favorite song of all time, it would be this song. I actually didn’t like it at first, but I began to enjoy it after I really listened to the lyrics and lost myself in the music. The song is actually very emotional and sentimental if you really listen to the lyrics and it gives off a very sweet and melancholy vibe, but in a good way.

If I Lose Myself Tonight by Alesso and One Republic – This song has been one of my favorites for a while now, not only because I like EDM (electric dance music) but because it has a melody that is actually relaxing and comforting.

Sleepyhead by Passion Pit – Passion Pit is a very talented group, in my opinion. They divert from the norm, making their music a million times more different and better than the meaningless songs in our generation.  It’s very soft yet energetic and I always listen to it when I study or do work!

#Beautiful by Mariah Carrey and Miguel – If there is ever a song to listen to when you’re sad, it’s this song. It really is a song that makes me happy and smile throughout the whole song. R&B isn’t my favorite genre, but this song really gets me excited to listen to it.

This is What it Feels Like by Armin van Buuren – If I can name one of my favorite artists, it would be Armin. I’m waiting to see him live in the US. This song just emulates life itself and how we are living in it.

Starry Eyed by Lana Del Rey – Anyone one of Lana’s songs are great, hence most of my choices for this project being her songs.. She is definitely underrated and this song should be more widespread.

The Way by Ariana Grande – This is one my favorite songs to just belt out when I’m with my friends. Ariana is very talented and this is one of my pick-me-up songs.

Without You by Dillon Francis – Even though this is a sad song, it has such a refreshing tone to it and I feel so tranquil and at peace when I listen to it.
