The Mishkin Art Gallery definitely resonated with me the other day. In middle school, I took a class in black and white photography which captivated my interest. I remember the first few days of classes, we made our own camera obscura by taking every day objects that could act as “chambers of darkness”. I believe I selected a regular Quaker oats can as my object of choice, poked a small hole in it, and put photographic paper inside. After going outdoors and taking our pictures, we went back to the darkroom to develop our image. The results weren’t beautiful – the image that came out was somewhat distorted and hazy, but at the time I was around 10 years old and that was one of the coolest thing I had ever done.
If I had the time and money, I would definitely love to get back into photography and drawing. The thing is that materials for any of the fine arts are a bit pricy these days, it completely turns me off. I kind of wished I had more time as well to create art on the side, but lately there’s just no time – or when there is time, I’m too tired and justend up making doodles and sketches.
