10 songs that represent me

!10 song playlist

This post speaks to who I am minimally. I do not think that 10 songs can sum me up as a person. I think we’re all too complex to be summarized by a couple of pictures or songs but I did the best I could with the parameters I was given. I chose the song Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana because its awesome and its my favorite song of all time. I chose Back Down by 50 Cent because I don’t give up. I believe the your only a loser when you stop trying and usually the person in first place is the one who gives up last. I chose One Mic by Nas because you can feel his passion and emotion in the song so thoroughly. This is represents me because I am a passionate person. I chose God Gave Me Style by 50 Cent because the song is really smooth and it makes me feel better when I’m feeling down. I chose Hustler’s Ambition by 50 Cent because I work hard and I relate to his drive. I chose Don’t You Worry Child by Swedish House Mafia because I know whatever happens and whatever is thrown at me that I’ll get through it. Life goes on and I move on just as quick. I chose NY State of Mind by Nas because I am a true New Yorker by every definition. I chose If I Can’t by 50 Cent because if I can’t do it it can’t be done. i can do anything i set my mind to. I chose Beautiful People by Benny Benassi/Chris Brown because I am a very positive person  and i see everyone in a positive light. I also chose it because the song makes me feel good. Every time i hear it i feel happy. I chose Bring the Noise Remix by Benny Benassi/Public Enemy because I like to turn up and the remix is awesome.

Welcome to my humble abode. (blog post #1)

Someone’s bedroom/living space can say a lot about that person.

So hopefully, you will learn a bit more about me after this little tour of my room. 🙂

The first thing you’ll notice will probably be my many posters. This is only a small part of my wall, but it’s my favorite! Some are photographs from an art book, and the photos of the foliage and the waterfall were from a nature book.

The yellow house was a souvenir I got on a trip to the Bermudas (Yellow is my favorite color, and I was captivated by the architecture in Bermuda).

The painting is “Poppy Field” by Claude Monet.

Here’s where I get my work done! I’m very conscious about keeping a clean workspace (well, a clean room in general).

As you may have noticed, my wallpaper is a photo of Kwik-E-Mart. I took the photo when I went to “Springfield” in Universal Studios two summers ago. It was a dream come true! I’m a huge Simpsons fan.

…Told ya so! At this point I’m actually considering a tattoo of Milhouse on my upper arm.

Here’s my growing collection of knick-knacks. I love knick-knacks. Please bring me all of  your knick-knacks.

See the towering Finn figurine? Well, I’m a huge Adventure Time fan! I have a TON of Adventure Time merch, and I have been dressing up as Fionna for the past two Halloweens.

This is a section of my bookshelf. I do enjoy reading, but college hasn’t allowed me enough time to indulge as much lately. There are more knick-knacks on the shelves. (The shark I got from the Bahamas, and the coin is actually a Bermudan quarter!)

And on my bookshelf, I have a bunch of journals. You must be wondering- what kind of secrets is this girl keeping that requires her to get so many journals?

The answer is, there are no secrets. I just write/draw a lot. And I really love journals.

And of course, like many other folks, music is a big part of my life. I love going to live shows, and that was one of the main reasons I stayed behind in NYC.

In the picture are my two favorite vinyl records, Reptilians by Starf**cker (questionable name, but amazing music), and Modern Vampires of the City by Vampire Weekend.

And kids, if you want to save money, don’t ever get a record player. Vinyls WILL break your bank. 🙁

Oh, and I almost forgot to mention. I have a roommate! He’s a Roborovski dwarf hamster named Walt (short for Walter White). He’s a bit shy, but he sure loves his hamster wheel. And profiting off of his lucrative meth business.

And that concludes the sneak peek into my life. Being an only child can get lonely sometimes, so everyone is free to come over and hang out.

I’ll have the snacks, as long as you bring the knick-knacks.

Alexandra Ten – First Blog Post – A few words about me

My Photo Collage

Sometimes it’s so hard to start a blog post

Well, first of all, I would like to reintroduce myself. My name is Alexandra Ten and I am an international freshmen student in Baruch College. I was born in Russia, but my mother is Korean (and a little bit Japanese) and my father is Armenian. However, my father left me when I was 4 years old and I have never actually seen him since then, that’s why I have been brought up in totally Asian traditions (one thing that I love about Korean culture is its cuisine).

In the age of 7 I started going to the Performing Arts School in my hometown where I studied piano, music theory, music history, and guitar and sang in the chorus. I’ve been playing the piano for almost a decade and I think that this is one of the important things I want you to know about me after reading this post. Even though I am an artist and greatly fond of music, I want to pursue my career in the Mathematics Field. I would like to major in Actuarial Studies or Accounting. Although, almost all of my relatives are doctors and being one is like a dynasty in my family (my grandfather and grandmother started it; he was a great pulmonologist and a professor in Medical School in Russia and my grandmother was a head therapist in a hospital), I am not sure that I will change my mind about my career, but who knows?

Talking about hobbies, one of my favorites, besides playing the piano, is travelling. I have been to Turkey, Israel, Egypt, Poland, Czech Republic, Austria, Germany and Italy. However, the city that I love best is Florence – the heart of Italy, in my opinion. Florence is an open-air museum where you can visit the most famous galleries, smell amazing flavors of Italian bakery and try different kinds of ice-cream, and also, simply wander around the ancient streets and boulevards. This is a magnificent place to have a trip to and I hope that I will come back there once again. I also love Germany and its beautiful castles, mountains, German toys, cars and cuisine (as you can see, I am quite a foodie).

In the conclusion, I would like to say that family and closest friends are the most important and significant parts of my life. Unfortunately, I do not have good latest family photos on my computer (I really do not want you to look at me few years ago, it was too bad), but I do have photos with my friends whom I love and miss a lot as all of them are studying in Russian universities now. However, Baruch is a wonderful place where I have already met great people and I do not feel so lonely and homesick.

Sophie Leung Blogpost Numero Uno~

Herro y’all! I’m Sophie and this is my image post about me. My hobby is photography. No, I’m not one of those “photographers” who only takes selfies. I take photos of places or things to capture specific memories. Each photograph I take, represents a specific memory or story. I’m a quiet person so it’s always been hard for me to make friends and connect with people. But through my photos, I’m able to start conversations and tell stories and experiences during my travels to others. Being a freshie and traveling to a new country is the same, I’m constantly encountering new and different things. Although I don’t have my camera with me everyday at school like I do while traveling, I still hope to capture different memories and being able to tell others about my experience at Baruch.

Hello everyone! m name’s william (NotWilliam Wei Loh) and I am an international student from Indonesia. Maybe some of you don’t know what and where Indonesia is, so one of my pictures is a map of Indonesia. It’s located in south east Asia, and it’s on the other side of the world from here. It takes me literaly 30 hours to get here and I’ve been here for a month or so. Now some of you may wonder why would I want to go to college half way around the world where I live and be away from all my friends and family. Well to answer that, I chose baruch because of it’s location in New York City, with its diversity and amazing opportunities. I also chose baruch because I have an aunt and uncle who lives here in NY

So far, the experience has been very great for me, been meeting some new friends and been exploring the city. My aunt has helped me transition here a little easy, although I sometimes miss home and the food over there.  (yes it’s really good). I also miss the great weather and beaches over there as well, I’ll have to brace my self for winter cos it’s something I’m definitely not familiar with. Another thing that i miss is my friends that i have left behind back home, I guess we have to go our separate ways, but we can always talk through Skype or FaceTime. I like to travel and wander through different places, cos I find it interesting to explore and try new stuffs. One of the photos is my last trip to Japan last june. I like to watch basketball and my favorite NBA team is the Golden State Warriors. these photos have shown pretty much who I am, and hopefully I’ll be better and have a great experience here in Baruch.

Wei Loh (William). SUP!

HI! My name is Wei Loh and ,of course, I am a freshmen attending Baruch college as a regular entree. Now you must be wondering why my parents named me “way low”. No, It wasn’t because I was deep in my mother’s womb or I came out short. Thing is, I actually don’t really know myself, (insert laughing-out-loud). But, my parents at that time didn’t really know english that well so I’m sure it was just a coincidence. Plus, I actually grew fond of the name since it’s easy to remember and pretty catchy.
I came to Elmhurst Queens New York from Malaysia when I was five and I have been living here ever since. It wasn’t until recently, about 4-5 years ago, that I found how fun it is to talk to people and get to knew each other. It was difficult at first to get out from my comfort zone but look it where it got me. I was able to go on various adventures whether it was to the beach, hiking in the mountains, or even sitting on a rock and enjoying the view.
In my free time, I would try to play some basketball in my local park or eat. Eating is fun. Over the summer I also love to volunteer in my local church and take care of children.
Coming to Baruch, I hope to make lots of new friends and really experience what it means to be a bearcat
