On Thursday, September 7th 2017, I went for a general interest meeting for the UNICEF at Baruch club. The room was packed with many other students, most of whom– I could safely assume– were here to get some photos for their FRO blogs. And though, I too, was keen on getting some of my homework finished off, UNICEF@Baruch, like UNICEF in general, stands for a profound and noble purpose. And thus, that incentive just ended up seeming like a meager added bonus. UNICEF provides aid to children all across the globe. Children who are struggling in war torn countries, children who are having to survive in perversely harsh conditions, and children who battle troubles they face at home.
With such such a dark umbrella of content, one would think that this group meeting wouldn’t be– what some might call– the “cats pajamas,” however, on the contrary it was quite entertaining. Apart from a poignant video about struggling children around the world, the meeting was like any other. There were introductions, we played some games, and the general functions of the club were shared. There was also pizza, however I was too late to get any.
First, the club members talked about UNICEF, and the organization’s objectives. Then, they introduced themselves and the club. They told us about their positions, and the events that the club has. After that, we separated into groups and played a quick game.
I signed up for club notifications, as well as a marketing position they had opened. I think UNICEF@Baruch stands for an important cause, and I would love to be a part of it, whether I have a firm position in the organization or not. They talked about multiple fundraising events that are spaced throughout the semester, and I plan on attending as many as I can.
