Two days ago, on September 19, I attended the third meeting of The Grid, a board game club. They partnered with the Japanese Anime Asylum to present “Anime Grid Game Day”. As more and more people entered the classroom, I wondered what game we would be playing, and was concerned that the substantial number of attendees would hinder the overall experience. Finally, the two clubs revealed that we would playing some Kahoot quizzes, which were online quizzes that only required the participants to have a phone or other electronic device with an Internet connection.
We ended up playing through four of them—2 about anime, 1 about The Grid’s games, and 1 about Pokémon. I completely bombed the anime quizzes due to my lack of anime knowledge, but I performed better in the other two. In fact, at one point during the Pokémon quiz, I was in third place! Even though I never finished in the top three, I still had an incredible time, thanks to the hilarious usernames and constant jokes within the quizzes themselves as well as from the people in the room. I was very disappointed when the event ended around 2:00 and people started cleaning up. That was when I decided to write about this meeting in my second blog post, and had my picture taken with the president of the club, Adam (see below).
When I originally learned about the club, I was eager to attend due to my love for board games. Although I was initially nervous at the first General Interest Meeting, I am now glad I decided to attend. The members are clearly passionate about the club, and the environment they establish is friendly, welcoming, and relaxing. I think The Grid will be a perfect place for me to make new friends, and in the future, I might become more active in the club. I look forward to their next meeting.
