On Thursday, September 7th, I attended the second general interest meeting for Ascend. I knew I wanted to join a business oriented club during my time at Baruch, so I decided to check out what Ascend had to offer.
Ascend National is North America’s largest, non-profit Pan-Asian organization for business professionals. Ascend Baruch is just one of their 34 student chapters around North America. At the meeting, I learned of the many opportunities that I would have being a member of this club. They hold both professional and social events each month. In the month of September they had arranged for CohnReznick and TD Bank to visit Baruch. At these professional events, those interested in pursuing careers at these companies would be able to directly connect and network with professionals in the field. They also spoke of their Legacy Leadership Program which is a mentee/mentor program that trains members to be good leaders. Aside from hosting professional and career oriented events, they also host fun events for members to get to know other members. These events include game night and sports day.
There are four committees within Ascend. The four committees are professional, marketing, treasury and technology. Members are able to join committees based on their interests. Members are also allowed to join multiple if they would like. I am interested in joining the professional and the marketing committees. During this meeting, we took part in various ice breakers to help potential members get to know each other. All the executives were extremely kind and welcoming.
I find being a member of Ascend will offer me many great opportunities during my time at Baruch. Ascend serves as a bridge to the diverse and vast business world. I feel taking part in Ascend will aid me in not only my professional development, but also my self improvement.
