Job Search Strategies Workshop

JOB Application :

This Wednesday, I decided to attend the job internship and search event. The Presenter was very polite and was willing to answer any of our questions. It was interesting to learn about what to do and not do when going through the interview process, or applying for jobs. Although many of these things may seem like common sense, it was a refreshing reminder of how to properly behave. I was able to learn that the when interviewing one must never ask about the recruiters salary or the person you plan to network. I didn’t realize how much more family, friends, and connections played a role in getting the job offers. We answered some survey questions to see the people’s responses and initial thoughts about this common information. I thought that the recruiters that are doing a first round review of the resume would spend at least 30 seconds on average per person. The actual answer I discovered was to be only 6 seconds. Another helpful reminder was to use my LinkedIn account. I always reframed from using the app to network with workers, but I am now convinced that it is something necessary when applying for jobs. I was afraid before with my prior experience of unprofessional recruiters that seem to be sketchy. I asked about how to know if they are legit jobs available  or just spam contacting you. It is difficult to know the difference between real jobs when its is a new business claiming to want workers with no prior experience. I will try to use my best judgement, for future reference, as was recommended by the workshop speaker.  Furthermore, I learned of the Star Search abilities to keep track of every application you submit, making this process easier and more organized. I will definitely keep all this in mind when I’m ready to apply for the jobs and have everything prepared. It is a useful tool and taught me that this challenging process has many resources available for my use.
