Internship Seminar

I went to the Internship Seminar that was hosted by Starr Career Center. The event was located in VC 2-190. Internship seminar gave us a guideline of how to apply for internship in the future and how Starr Career Center can help us develop our resumes and interview skills.

The workshop started with telling us how obtain an internship is just like cooking. You will have to prepare all the ingredients. Documents should be fully prepared before going to an interview. Starr career office can help you revise your resume. Cover letter is not required but it will definitely help you if you have one.

I learned that you can go on Starr search to find internships. You will need to make sure your account is complete. Your profile doesn’t have to be 100% complete but your account is based on a honor system. But it is recommended to use your real GPA and update your account at least once every semester.

When you apply for internship, there are few things you will need to watch out. Have multiple people review your resume before sending it to your employer as mistakes can happen it is too late you recognize it after you sent it. The professor at the workshop recommended to have at least 4 to 5 people review it. And go to interview workshops. Baruch has mock interviews so Baruch students should be fine. After you went to the interview, send thank you letters. After you get the offer, think twice before accepting it.

After you accepted the internship, you should make the most of your internship. Starr career professor suggested to ask good questions because your supervisors want you to ask questions instead of making mistakes. Keep in good though with your supervisor so it is easy to get reference letters from them later on when you need it.
