Interview 101 with Target

The Interview Prep Workshop with Target was great! The workers from Target came to Baruch to help students prepare for future interviews. They described how they got their job and  what they do. Additionally, they explained the interview process and told us we had to be able to sell ourselves to the interviewer.

Confidence is a must and we must use STAR when telling a story. STAR is a method of telling a story or creating content for a resume. S is for describing the situation, T is for the task given, A is for the action done, and R is the result and what you learned from the situation. When telling our story, enthusiasm is a must! It livens up the story and gives emotions to the words we speak. Moreover, our story should give them a sense of how our personality is.

The workers from Target suggested us to find ways to make ourselves less nervous before or during an interview. As for me, I get nervous when it comes to interviews. My palms become sweaty, my heart rate proliferates, and my mind is able to blank at any instant. In brief, trying to reduce nervousness is crucial for me. Everyone has remedies that can reduce their nervousness in an interview. In most cases, the interviewer will not know you’re nervous. Fake it until you make it.

Before an interview, it is recommended that we research about the company. Gaining knowledge about the job and applying it to the interview could signal the interviewer that you did your homework and that you care about the job. If they request questions, make sure you have a couple ready. Asking them questions shows that you’re interested in the company and learning about them. Interviewers often love talking about their own career or their own experiences in the company. They usually look for people who will stay long term in the company and grow with them. In conclusion, I learned a lot from this workshop. I thought the presentation was well organized, and overall, the experience was great meeting with people who worked in the company for years.
