I recently attended a general meeting for the UNICEF at Baruch club. It was a very eye opening experience and it helped me realize the great variety of clubs and how I have so many choices to choose from. At the meeting we were shown a video that portrayed the difference between unfortunate kids and fortunate kids. This video shined light on how there are children all around the world that struggle so much to accomplish a simple task that we do everyday without really thinking about. The video really made me start to think of my life and how lucky I am to have all the blessings in life that other kids will never be able to have. It is heartbreaking, but at the same time it is motivating. It makes you want to do something to help these unfortunate children that can’t really live their lives to their full potential.
I was happy that I joined this meeting and it was really nice to see that students are trying to get involved and help with third world problems at such a young age. I also got to meet a member of the club that shared the same major as myself and she talked to me about how she was able to use the knowledge she learned from her classes and apply them to promoting the club and trying to get the word out to as many people as possible. It was also interesting to see that the room was filled with diversity and that just goes to show that no matter who you are and no matter where you come from, you can always find a way to help those who are need and those who may not be living a life as privileged as yours. I will definitely consider joining this club and I will be looking forward to help in any way I can.
