The club I visited was Photography Club. I normally am interested in taking pictures, since I have an iPhone 7 and the quality of that phone’s camera is just as good as a professional camera. I learned in high school the different ways to take pictures, such as bird’s eye view, and it fascinated me how the angle of a photo or how we take a photo can impact the way people see it. Photography is also everywhere from an Instagram post to displays on art museums. Through photography, a message is able to be conveyed, whether significant or simple.
Coming into photography club, I was able to meet other people who share the same common interests as me. For one, that was great because it was easier to bond with people, and be more social. And it is great how one doesn’t need much experience in photography to join this club – they just need to be dedicated. It proved to me how much of a learning experience this club will be for me. I know, for sure, that I will gain a vast amount of outside knowledge from this club.
Photography club assisted me with my first semester of Baruch because it showed me how important it is to get out into the city and just enjoy it. While academics are obviously important and vital to success in the future, that can’t always be the main focus. Sometimes, people just need to take a break from studying and enjoy their surroundings. Photography can even be a stress outlet from intensive school work; it captures the beauty of our surroundings and reminds us of why we need to go out more and be appreciative of this Earth we live in. I’m not going to lie; I tend to stay indoors and watch TV on non-school days. But this club taught me that there are better things to do and things I am missing out on, such as going outside and taking meaningful pictures, bonding with people through that, and possibly finding a new hobby that can benefit me in the long run.
