Baruch voices is a program that Baruch created to gather all the freshmen together and make their college experience better. Baruch has freshman seminar classes which students meet every week to learn more about Baruch. In our freshman seminar class, we have to complete 3 blog posts and 1 monologue. Baruch voices is where Baruch first year students perform their monologues. Each block is required to choose the best monologue and send that student to perform at Baruch voices.
In our freshman seminar class, we voted for Tammy. Her monologue was about her passion for dancing. I liked her introduction which was really attention grabbing and her performance was confident and smooth. She was very descriptive of her personal experience with dancing. How her mood changed because her family judged her appearance and how she was too shy to perform in her high school talent show even though she got in.
One student’s performance was very emotional. He mentioned the struggles he went through when he was a child and how he joined the sports team because he wants to remind a bright image. But at the end of the monologue, he said it was all a lie. Also another student expressed his love for Popeyes chicken. His performance was very expressive and emotional. It was a funny topic and attention grabbing.
Baruch Voices is an interesting event. Students’ monologues were very unique. People talked about the racial problems, personal experiences, passions and talents. Baruch voices helps first year students to know how diverse Baruch is and helped students to bond with each other.
