Baruch Voices

Baruch Voices was a unique experience that came with many various emotions. There were many memorable performances that stood out to me and the entire audience. It was very nice to see students from completely different backgrounds stand on that stage and share their monologues. All the different monologues came with various emotions; there were funny ones, sad ones, and inspirational ones. However, there is one thing that all the monologues had in common. They all revealed a certain characteristic about that person. You are really able to learn a lot about the person in just the few minutes they are on the stage.

There were many performances that stood out to me. One of them being a girl that spoke about breaking what she believed to be a stereotype for black women in today’s society. She was very confident throughout the entirety of her performance, which made her words resonate with the audience on a deeper level and it just made her whole monologue that much better. There was also a boy who rapped his monologue and was expressing his point of view on many various politically controversial topics. I was surprised by his ability to maintain a smooth rhythm throughout the whole performance.

Every person that performed that day did a great job of expressing their feelings towards what they believe is important to them. All these students made the experience a memorable and entertaining one. I applaud every presenter for their courage and bravery to get on that stage and share words that have such a deep meaning to them and their lives with complete strangers. Overall, Baruch Voices was a great event that I am happy to have been able to witness. I look forward to being able to see events similar to this one throughout my future years in Baruch.
