The two hosts of STARR’S Cover Letter Workshop on November 7th felt like my personal business guardian angels.
Without attending this workshop, I would’ve been entirely clueless on how to even begin writing a cover letter. Listening and engaging with their presentation not only clarified what a cover letter should achieve and communicate, but it also clarified several other points. During this workshop, we were helped to identify common pit-falls so that we could later avoid them. We were also encouraged to choose language deliberately and wisely, in order to make a good first impression on our future potential employers. We learned formalities that were polite to utilize in the early stages, such as crafting your cover letter, but also helpful tips for how to conduct ourselves after we had sent in our materials and even met for an interview. All of this information reassured me that although I had no experience with one, writing the “perfect” cover letter was a feat that I could manage.
While in attendance, I saw a lot of people I knew and became immensely grateful that we all had this opportunity to attend and inform ourselves. Going to STARR for this workshop made me develop a stronger sense of confidence in my ability to conquer the work world, and I am happy that as students of Baruch we can all have access to helpful events such as this one.
Now that I know about the guidance STARR workshops provide, I am eager to attend my next one and continue to expand my own knowledge about the do’s and dont’s of landing your dream job (or even just a job to begin with!)
