On Wednesday, 15 November I attended an On-Campus Recruiting workshop at the Starr Development Center, in room 2-190 between 5 pm till 6:30 pm.
When we entered the room, it was set up like a conference room and we received pamphlets which had a bunch of papers in and we were required to fill out a yellow form, giving us eligibility for the on-campus recruitment workshop registration card where we just had to give basic information about ourselves. We were told that if we did not want to stay for the full workshop, then we should leave right away, which led to most people leaving, however, I stayed for the whole time.
In the beginning, we started off with a brief introduction to what is on-campus recruiting (OCR) and basic terms that we would see on the website when we signed up. We were then given information as to what we should be putting on the STARR website onto our accounts and were given some advice on our resumes, with advice like how important extracurricular activities are and advice on our cover letters and where to upload copies of our documents.
We then were given networking tips, such as how we should go attend as many events as possible and advice such as giving recruiters a good impression and how we should sit in the front so that you could get noticed by recruiters. We continued talking about the website and general processes like scheduling, accepting or declining an interview which gave us lots of information and what to do in interviews and how to prepare for them.
Overall, I think this was a very good experience and really gave me an insight as to how I can get a job, especially because my process is different to someone from here since I am an international student.
