On Campus Recruitment

On November 15th I attended a OCR Workshop at the STARR Career Development Center that went over the correct preparation tactics and behavior for an OCR event.

The leader of the workshop went over everything from how to navigate the STARR Search website, the different terms and specific lingo used in an OCR event, to how to polish up your resume and apply for full time or internship positions in a company, from the STARR website. She helped to explain how to navigate the website as well as how to use the different tools the STARR website offers to Baruch students.

She also discussed the progression of the recruitment/interviewing process which starts with an on campus visit from employers who meet with you in a basic interview setting to start off. Then, if the employers like you enough to meet with you again, it moves to an off-campus interview in the work setting of the business you are interviewing for. These interviews are similar in nature, but because the on campus meeting is at a school setting and set up by the career center at Baruch, there are numerous ways in which the process is an educational experience for the students. Employers will often times give feedback, and the communication through the career center helps students prepare for future interviews as well.

It was helpful to see what the recruitment process is like as a freshman as I noticed a few juniors and seniors who were just as unprepared as I was. I felt that I had enough time to gather more information at settings such as these and prepare myself for the recruitment process later in my career. I do not feel as overwhelmed by the idea of on campus recruitment opportunities and I understand more about the interviewing process.
